  1. The only problem is that its not just a catch-up mechanism, it is a funding mechanism that also solves the catch up mechanic issue.
  2. That is a fair criticism, however it does not change the logic of Alt vs VIP only the timeline by which VIP loses its value. If you assume brand new player with no discounted pledge package. Account + 1 year VIP = $230 3 Non-VIP Accounts = $150 (one time charge) A player with VIP will reach the $150 investment mark at around 6-7 months.
  3. The big difference between games like ArcheAge and CF is that the resources one could buy with VIP/Apex have a clear expiration date as worlds will end and players can only import/export so much from a CW. It will be hard to say how much of an impact buying resources/gear will have on a CW because there are so many variations. In the dregs, a player could purchase the best gear available and lose it in the next 5 minutes. In another CW a player who purchases the best gear might have it break as normal decay occurs. I think this is why most players had no issue with VIP trading. Now, once you throw in the Skill Tome system it completely changes the game, unless they slap some restrictions on it.
  4. What the devs do with Skill Tomes will be a very clear indication of what their motives are, there are other ways to solve the catch up issue.
  5. I suppose he is referring o the time when VIP only equated to more options, because of the 3 archetypes. Now with 2/2/2 VIP represents a clear power advantage.
  6. I understand there are 2 sides to stealth game play. In order to test the balance of the overall game play requires both sides to be present. Being able to find bugs and test the mechanics of stealth alone, does not require an anti-stealth mechanic. Also with as easy as they have made it to push out disciplines, you don't need a fully fleshed out anti-stealth character to provide some measure of anti-stealth gameplay.
  7. It should not matter if its a mess or unbalanced right now, we are supposed to be testing mechanics not fun. You can do viable testing of stealth mechanics even if you don't have an anti-stealth mechanic to test a the same time.
  8. This opens the door for a lot of the race/class combinations not actually being playable when 5.3 drops.
  9. @thomasblair @jtoddcoleman Am I the only one who understood/assumed that the race/class chart that was presented in the update yesterday represented those combinations which would be available in 5.3? Based on that assumption, the following exchange is rather odd..... Per @jtoddcoleman the update was meant as a way to let players know what race/class they could play when 5.3 drops so they can start preparing, yet @thomasblair says that despite the chart saying that assassins are ready, they are in fact not ready. A bit confusing to players or maybe I'm just slow. More bullsocks confirmed.
  10. @jtoddcolemanOk so you have 31 of the 41 listed race/class combinations, the only class that is missing is Frostweaver. Gender variants are just a bonus. The argument of needing to know sooner rather than later is a bit weak, considering we have to start with basic race and basic class training before we can even start working towards the missing races and class. The only thing missing is 1 class and 2 races, so depending on the timing of the 5.3 release should be considered a win since you will far exceed the "about half" statement. Gonna hold your feet to the fire and call bullsocks when I see it.
  11. JTC has mentioned this already, this is nothing new.

  13. I can't disagree with you that if non-vip can create skill tomes it will result in a bit more DR by changing how often one would incur the DR. This is likely the reason that even though VIP can bank 30 days worth of training, they can't create a 30 day skill tome. With all of that being said my spreadsheet still holds up for the player who has the money to spare, $150 a month for 10 alt farmers is not out of the question for many players. Also keep in mind, that some of the early backer packages contained over 5 years worth of VIP. Without additional restrictions on top of what was revealed, the system is ripe for abuse. We all quickly identified ways to eliminate abuse, that is not the issue.
  14. If 5.3 is that close then they should tell us when its going to drop. If 5.3 does not drop next week then this post is mostly useless outside of the Elken Cleric reveal. If 5.3 is supposed to drop next week, why not let us know?
