Thought I'd better pop in and give everyone a little heads up to try to minimize potential cornfuzzlement tomorrow. In this thread a few weeks ago, Todd explained, "Beginning this week, we will be posting game-related updates on Tuesdays and Fridays with occasional founders/team updates on Wednesdays." However, this week, we've got a 'double feature' planned for tomorrow instead of Friday. So, when you don't see another big news update on Friday, don't panic/cry bitter tears of disappointment/signal Batman. (Actually, if you have the capability to signal Batman, you should because that would be cool.) Also starting tomorrow, we're going to try something new with the way the update is done on the site. Til now, we've put the contents of the entire news post into the forum thread. That can cause problems when some people are replying--which we want everyone to feel free to do--and they quote the whole thing. We'll still create a discussion thread, which will be linked from the news article, but it will simply have a link to the article rather than the whole enchilada. The thinking behind this is that it will improve the user experience of reading the threads on mobile devices. P.S. to properly manage expectations: Tomorrow's 'double-feature' will be likely be a "WOOHOO!!" and an "oh, okay" for the greater majority of our community. Maybe not even a "WOOHOO!!" but more like a "Woohoo!" or "Cool" (with no exclamation point). I'm still calibrating my Crowfall Community barometer; it's not perfectly tuned just yet.

I try and make it a point to check the forums every morning, and jump in when I can. If not, I feel all itchy and start to go through withdrawals (true story!) Todd ACE

I've noticed a recent trend in starting ridiculous threads for suggested "features" to be included in Crowfall. I can only assume that the OPs feel this is their way of responding to suggestions that they feel are directly counter to the FAQ or are completely against the stated design goals of Crowfall. Your jokes are not helping. If we continue to abuse and clutter the avenues of discussion outlined by the Developer team they will eventually stop reading any ideas from us as a community. We've all played games that have left us jaded as stated goals are not realized or the design is radically changed to appeal to a broader playerbase. This is not that game. If you really think ACE will take a complete 180 on the direction they've outlined for Crowfall based on an idea they read here.. you aren't listening to everything they've said. Ignore the suggestions that don't make sense, chuckle to yourself, but don't turn this subforum into a place the developers avoid as only poor suggestions and fake suggestions are made. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TLDR; Boy who cried wolf. Community = boy, ideas = wolf, developers = village ignoring the boy. Stop purposefully posting bad ideas. I'm watching you. Warnings will fly.

Hey everyone, I have no idea where to post this, because on the one hand, it is shameless self-promotion, but on the other hand, it's not really fan site stuff either, so I'll just post it in the general discussion since a discussion is exactly what I'm hoping will happen (since recent topics suggest we badly need something to talk about anyway). I recently had the chance to talk with Lewis Burnell over at Ten Ton Hammer, and we went over what has us so excited about this game, our thoughts on the genre, and where we'd each like Crowfall to go with its future. Let me know what you think! http://www.tentonhammer.com/feature/crowfall-discussion

Alpha/Beta Testing - Things to consider

I know this is a long way off, but I just wanted to say - when this happens please don't expect that the game is going to be up 24/7 or you are going to have a fun experience (especially in alpha). I have a feeling that unlike most actual alpha and beta tests, these will be actually pretty close to actual alpha/beta testing. This probably won't be a glorified demo. I know it seems like this goes without saying, but I pretty much always see complaining threads. Sometimes there is a delay in starting testing and people get upset, but honestly, that's part of it. So please, when testing does start actually try to consider that the primary purpose isn't to play a polished game, but to make it better. Also - don't just blindly defend something in the game. Wildstar in particular had a lot of players in beta who would defend every decision the devs made, good or bad. That isn't going to make this game better in the long run. This game doesn't have actual feelings, so criticizing bad parts of the game will only make it better. I really didn't have a reason for typing this up now so thats my story ok bye

Devs, Thanks for being involved with the community so much. I think we all appreciate the amount of time you all hang with us while still developing a game we're all anxiously anticipating...and financially backing lol See you at the next stream! -Gordon's Intern

I don't know the rest of you guys but I am rather tired of the typical ice spells ie freeze/slow people and maybe make walls/barriers. I don't expect that the frostweaver will have none of these things as that would be naive but I would like to see some different spells and am curious as to what you guys can come up with. Some ideas of my include 1. Shooting cones of ice shards that do damage and bleed 2. Creating an aoe of whiteout snow that impairs visibility for friend and foe alike 3.Causing the opponent's gear to become more brittle, taking more damage per blow (this one sounds like a terrible idea but I am spit balling) 4.Creating an aoe of ice on the ground that friend or foe have a good chance of tripping on if moving quickly, significantly less if moving slowly (borrowed from divinity original sin, one of my greatest banes) I will add more as I come up with them. The developers may not use any of the ideas in this topic but I for one would like to see frost magic to have more versatility and variance then it generally has.

Reading through this thread has been pretty hilarious. I facepalm at every reply that goes on a rant about "Just go join up in a <insert 3rdP VOIP software> channel". If your mind instantly starts to wander towards the notion of VOIP, you clearly have no idea of what the discussion is actually about. Fun fact; I was just like you guys who don't like PVC, up untill just a few years ago. I hated the notion of "being encouraged" to hear, or talk with complete strangers. I didn't at all get the reasons or the draw for it, why would I want to hear some random dude talk with me or why should I ever talk to this person? I couldn't really grasp the benefits, the reasons, the entire concept; I needed to experience them, firsthand. For a game to be so utterly broken, unpolished and right-out frustrating to play at times - DayZ Mod was the first game to show me what PVC can do for a game, its popularity, longevity, its level of immersion, etc. A game, or in this case just a mod back then, in where the players primary focus was surviving. With the biggest threat being other players, PVC brought the player-interraction to the forefront of the game even more so. I experienced situations in a game that I never even thought would be possible, situations I hadn't even concieved prior to experiencing them. It was truly an eye-opener, a paradigm shift in online gaming. Although, just as any interraction between people online whether it be via text or voice, weird and unpleasant situations will arise. It shouldn't be more difficult than dealing with a player in any other game, whether it'll be ignoring his voice or his text. The benefits outweighs the negatives, very much so, and anyone who tries to argue this point is simply to stubborn and conservative. This is 2015, or 2016 when we have this game in our hands. I'll be damned if not the majority of online gamers today have a microphone at hand, this together with the exponential growth and decline of cost of Internet bandwidth. The very apparent, growing splits and lack of interraction between players and a game's community. A genre that used to thrive on player-interraction, it used to be one of the focal points of MMOs. A feature that encourages and makes it easier for people to interract with eachother. See where I'm going with this. So why shouldn't we have access to PVC in todays day and age?

Salutations folks! I'm dying to play the duelist class but my question is regarding the burrowing and wall breaking mechanic.in the videos it looks like breaking a wall or burrowing under one is extremely quick and that seems like it wouldn't be very balanced...i mean, you have a huge majestic keep and our toons break through like the kool aid man....or burrow under it lickety split. Does anyone have any info regarding the mechanic? Also with being able to dig and move land, does the displaced material respawn after a set time or does it stay affected for the duration of the campaign? It seems that if it doesn't respawn fairly fast that the land would be totally destroyed. Again, insight would be great! And in finishing,I sent an email to the devs today and got a reply really fast...like 10 min..its nice to see that kind of effort. Well In passing they mentioned a cool update this Thursday,so stay tuned! Hope to hear some info soon! Hyjaxx.

    More movement options

I was considering movement the other day. A game came to mind was Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear Solid series and I started to think about why it was enjoyable. A number of things really, but I think the biggest sway of that game is the way movement is handled with intuitive approaches. So I'm not actually asking that Crowfall should mimic its movement style. I was just thinking about the crouch and prone that Solid Snake does so often with tactical stealth play and I started to realize that MMOs don't really offer this kind of choice for movement. Recently the only thing that does come to mind is TESO has a crouch mechanic, but that correlates to the sneak and backstab method and I'm not suggesting for that either. I would like to see an action figure vibe brought to MMOs and it can give more sense of controlling your character rather than just sprinting breakneck everywhere in a rigid upright pose all the time. If they can toggle walk functions for RP(well not just RP but for pacing and soaking in the atmosphere as well), I don't see why not with crouching. I feel like MMOs have this barbie doll syndrome where player characters do not bend, crouch or go prone. They tend to sprint everywhere rigidly. Even with newer animation rigs to offer the illusion of sway and movement, it's still pretty stiff. I think it would be viable to introduce crouching at the very least. It would allow players to hunker down around a hill, or behind a castle wall, barricade, or sneak around at the base of a tree in the thick of a forest. Reduced visibility is a good way to approach targets without having to constantly rely on stealth as if it's a magic toggle button and it could lend to smarter choices to employing stealth rather than artificially. Maybe crouching can also lend to more accuracy with projectile based weaponry as well? I know prone would be another story altogether. Thoughts? Mostly just throwing it on the wall to see if it sticks. tl;dr version: Crouching can add to player movement choices and make stalking/using defense fortifications easier

They're not randomly generating terrain, they're randomly compiling terrain. Terrain is like set pieces, cut into tetris-puzzle. the worlds randomly tetris-up with the pieces. So you might see set pieces like a big mountain, and then next to the big mountain is the stripper pole monolith. So random, but not crazy random.

    Hi.

    not everyone likes my posts

I wish people were less afraid to post. Too many people make posts just to tear down other people's posts, and it's kinda sad sometimes. I'm not saying posts disagreeing with other posts don't have value (everyone is entitled to their opinion!), but if the only posts you make are negative, what is ultimately the impact of your posting on the community? Everyone should Just Post. Post Post Post.

Hey, I wan't a toon that can kill anything 1 v 1, but then be able to get away from anything whenever more than 1 person shows up. and it would be useless in a group...except if i had a group of them then we could totally own the other group and like get away if more than that showed up. Because we're like vampires and awesome and stuff. gosh. i just don't think that would be a good idea.

    Dungeons

It does not matter whether you call them dungeons or caves, as i have said in the original post it should be procedurally generated, non instanced, closed space areas, that would provide experience similar to the Deceit lich room in UO. Basically people fighting non-stop over loot/ resource drops from some fairly tough mob. With surrounding mobs aggroing on them at random resulting in chaos. Having some kind of doors to play with locking people out would be nice as well. In fact I think that adding procedurally generated dungeons/ caves would be a brilliant idea, you could explore new ones each campaigns, adding a ton to the games replayability. Possibly adding disciplines like speleologist, for cave heavy campaigns. If ores is found in veins you could place miner thralls there, that would function similar to the player miners in UO, mining ore and bringing it up to the surface. and you could raid enemy guild miners. This is a general idea. These caves/ dungeons could be turned into resrource gathering/adventuring/pvp hotspot.

Many of these Kickstarter packages were insanely great (valuable), and they were only supposed to be available during Kickstarter. We'll still let Kickstarter people upgrade their strongholds over time and buy some of the Kickstarter items individually, but the Kickstarter package upgrades will be going away. After that, upgrades will be the addition to your account of the difference between the equivalent current package (relative to your current Kickstarter package level) and the new upgraded package. You'll end up with a maximum Kickstarter forum badge (from your old package), and a maximum 2015 badge (from your new package) you can choose between to use on the forums for an example. The new packages are targeted to have a value between 250-320% what they would be worth at launch. Most of the Kickstarter packages were more valuable than that, some are significantly more.
