I'm not saying that harvesting should be done alone necessarily but, let's look at it from the opposite perspective. Everybody expects Crowfall to be a group game and pvp will be done in groups of multiple players. Solo players have a major disadvantage because they just don't bring the same overall stats to a battle against more than 1 person BUT, if a highly skilled player is alone and runs into a group of two people, even though he is at a major disadvantage...he can still choose to try and outplay those people. Now let's assume that they design an archetype that has SO MUCH REGEN that a solo player cannot kill it (*cough* minotaur) but, instead of having that regen on a skill cooldown, they just have it permanently. You're a pvper with the best gear and vessel that's possible in the game and you run into this archetype that no matter how amazing of a player you are, the game is designed in a way which prevents you from killing them...EVER. They can just stand there, AFK and you will never be able to kill them. Sounds like cheating right? You'd be mad right? Why would you design an archetype that was impossible to kill? That seems like poor game design right? That archetype that can't ever die, is a top tier resource node. You can find it in the world, you can engage it in combat and damage it but, no matter how much training, gear or skill you have the game is designed to prevent you from harvesting it. Then you say "but, what's the difference between that and killing a boss mob?" and you're right, it's the same style mechanic but, I thought this was supposed to be a pvp based sandbox. I can understand maybe like a combination node that required you to have a minimum skill in multiple ore types, like you can't harvest it because you have master iron harvesting but, you suck at gold harvesting. That makes sense to me because it's a level of progress that you can achieve at some point and for the first year of the game, you'll need your friends to help you harvest it because you simply don't have the training. Even in a game like EVE which this system seems to be based on, you can still solo harvest the hardest nodes and transport them yourself, players just created mining teams to make the process safer and more efficient. Now imagine if you just spent a fortune on the best mining ship imaginable and you had the best mining skill in the game and you flew up to a random node and the game was like SORRY, BUDDY SYSTEM ONLY NODE. I'm definitely over-reacting to this but, it seems like the threat of being killed and looted should be what keeps you from soloing and not the game itself.

Legend Gaming still plays ESO (Vokundein), but we are much more casual now, the game did not support hardcore gameplay of any sort. People still raid and do some PvP there, but I stopped 8 months into launch, couldn't handle the screw ups in PvP balance and lag in Cyrodiil.

It looks to me like Blair has recognized pillaging as a potential problem for the macroeconomy. If an individual or small group finds a fat resource node in territory they cannot expect to defend, they will harvest it if they can, even if they just get poor ore from it.. When this happens enough, the epic and legendary ores become even rarer than planned. If you don't like how this system requires large, coordinated groups to exploit high-quality nodes, propose an alternative that keeps CF economy working as devs intend it to work.

Until the crafting is 'rolled out' it is difficult to judge how effective, enjoyable or complex the harvesting system will be. The two game systems 'harvesting' and 'crafting' are different but they are very inter-dependent. The only concern I have, at this stage, is how 'in practice' the low quality resource types will be used - will they just be used to dump into castle walls etc. or will they be more usefully used in high quality recipes. I agree the system may be geared around the group effort but depending on how the resource nodes are distributed in the CW I think will make a difference to how they are gathered. Indeed different CW may have different distribution models.

In the brave world ahead, diversity is the key to success. As such Serrated will endeavor to provide a healthy mix of passionate PvP players as well as craftsmen and other professions. Serrated will cater to gamers that have lives to live and will endeavor to keep the game play fun above everything else. Our members should not feel obligated to play, as our goal is to make our members want to. Serrated will allow players, recommended 17+, with a mature attitude. Real world politics, discrimination, and content inappropriate for all sexes will be highly discouraged. Serrated will be a place to meet new and old friends. A place where you can have fun and still feel like you made a difference. If interested in joining, please see the recruitment process (click here). High Level Guild structure: Serrated is broken down into 4 focused branches and a representative leadership council. Members may choose to be in one or more of the branches. Roles and Responcibilities: The organizational structure will vary based on the size and demand. However, the following principle roles show the basic layout. Hardcore -vs- Casual: Serrated will adjust the size of player groups based on the ratio of casual to hardcore members. This is a highly scalable approach which will be applied at every level from crafters to major generals. Serrated is a hardcore guild that finds its strength in the size and diversity of its membership. We are very social, in it to win, and most of all to have fun. All of the leadership will receive training in dealing with the different player types. Member Types: All, diversity is the key to success. There will be an especially strong need for many PvP players and crafters. Target Size: Huge, but regulated to enure compatibility. Target Focus: Campaign and economic dominance. Target Age: 17+ and mature, exceptions made on a case by case basis with parent approval. For example, if a father wants to play with his kids. The main point is that the guild will be composed of adults talking like adults and quite possibly about adult things at times. Censoring will occur only when inappropriate content, for example discriminatory or inappropriate for all sexes. We will not censor for younger ages, which is why there is a recommended age. Member Geographic: US and Europe. Provided Guild Services: The guild includes a state of the art NodeBB forum and a premium GameVox voice server which can scale with its members, Slack for instant messaging and custom built web based services to fits the needs of the guild from highly experienced developers. The services are built on the same network and hardware infrastructure as the Crowfall game. Serrated invests in quality services to make the experience of Crowfall better and more enjoyable for all our members. About Me: I am a gamer and have played many MMO’s. I am also an engineer and a dad. My word is my bond. I am a hands off leader, but I also pay attention.

    Healing Fatigue

Way to early to be making sea changes in major mechanics related to class inter-dependencies when we only have half the archetypes, none of the promotion classes, and none of the disciplines. What will be the frequency of seeing healing debuffs, hybrid classes and off-healers? I don't know either. Perhaps one of the reasons teams are perceived to be healer stacked is Knight is in a bad place and Confessor is overshadowed by the Druid. When only a few of the classes are viable (assuming you are trying to be competitive and win the HD minigame), well then funny stuff happens.

    Healing Fatigue

There a LOADS of people in every popular MMO that play support/healers. It's certainly not a boring duty if it's done correctly. I enjoy being the guy on my team that helps keep his team mates healed and 'buffed' at the expense of not doing a lot of damage. I recognize that a firehose healer isn't something that the devs want to see -- but I also recognize that if you get the same effect by having 3 of the same class in your 6 player party -- then you allowed for this anyhow. I like this suggestion. I think non-stop healing is lame. I like the debuff idea ... but please allow people who WANT to play a support/healer class actually have the ability to be THAT ROLE for their team. #CFcombatmedics

this made me think about how I'm a bit amazed that the skill trees are so linear, there is no real choice that locks out different options, it's just a matter of what you choose first. While I understand the logic when the game starts and your role depends on choices, in the end game certain choices could mean you lose access to certain skills that might have been beneficial. I know this sounds crazy complicated, but I was thinking about a skill tree where skills later on would get different % modifiers dependant on the order in which you selected skills, like let's say : I started as a crafter and never strayed from the path, so now I have a x% better chance of using less resources or applying extra stat buff on an item. That would differentiate a dedicated crafter from the rest in my opinion.

Have you sent an Email to the devs? They probably don't have much time on their hands, but I'm sure at least one of them will be up for an afternoon of fanfic reading. If all else fails, we can always put it up to a vote. Edit: This post may be a little irrelevant... I somehow completely didn't notice the forth page in this topic.

Don't flame me too quickly - I haven't done any reading to see what info is out there about crafting but I think we could be missing an important point about harvesting vs. crafting. I immensely like the idea of Group only nodes..whether thats rank 10 or whatever. That group only node gives us a better loot table correct? If we want an even better loot table, we need someone to train their harvesting leadership skill, etc..ect.. In other games such as Vanguard, these raw mats were refined for higher quality. Refining could result in better quality but perhaps at the cost of quantity or a complete failure and total loss of the raw material. Vanguard's crafting system was a heavy mini-game to keep crafters occupied and invested in training their specific skills to include refining. I have no clue if CF crafting will be anything like that but I wouldn't get too wrapped around the axle on "Group" only resources nodes. What if that resource is a lvl 100 fire-breathing golemn. Its the only golemn in the game that has X loot table for X resource. No matter what, thats going to need a group right? Maybe that rank 10 node is in a location that requires a group just to get there. Again, I'm shooting from the hip here because I haven't read up on CF crafting systems. Also, I'm just using that as an example because I know this isn't a PVE focused game. Edit: Ok, i see that refining is a crafting skill i.e... combining various materials to produce these alloys. The bottom line is that producing alloys is a Crafting mechanic not a Harvesting mechanic. The materials are raw. These must be refined. Refining is a crafting activity. Group nodes are a harvesting mechanic. The benefits of which are better raw materials and an improved chance at the rare stuff.

    Explain Shadowbane Stealth to me

I never played a stealther, but what I loved about Shadowbane was how skilled thieves would become so well-known. An elite thief could plague an entire settlement and make life miserable for lone travelers outside the walls. I also loved how the best scouts also became well-known as Thief-killers...basically a good scout was like Walker Texas Ranger. *sigh* Here we are in the boneyard reminiscing again. Why oh why didn't they just make Shadowbane 2?

I was thinking about a similar thing when Raph and Thomas were talking about harvesting itself not being a really hard decision. You'd always want any node, and the only choices to be made were basically bag space choices. I was wondering if they started brainstorming at all about harvesting choice. If it works like damage, maybe there are cost/benefits to dealing a ton of damage rapidly (harvesting quickly but crudely) or dealing slow, focused damage (harvesting slowly but precisely). I dunno. Maybe you'd benefit from people harvesting the same node as a group, because their skills have symbiotic relationships, too.

Finally something about why I want to play in your game with spinning combat move. In swg a low level crafter couldn't build the best low level widget. I hope we could craft the best nails without been master builder. So that master architect could buy from low level the best nails so that he can concentrate on bigger things. I hope you will add some kind of eye hand coordination in the crafting system.Like a less extreme version of surgeon simulator 2013. Maybe if you go hunt for skin, it is better to kill with 3 critical then 50 low damages. Anyway. That was by 2 coppers.

What's on that whiteboard hue hue hue >:3 One thing I'm questioning is that: Why bring pack animals when you have friends? If you bring enough people, eventually, the number of people will have an equal amount, or more, than a pack animal. Of course those other peoples could bring pack animals themselves and increase the payload evermore. But this brings me to my other point of contention: it is never wise to put all your stuff in the same place. Just because the pack pig can carry 100 items doesn't mean much if you can split it between 2 other friends. If the pack pig dies, all 100 items are lost, but if one of your friends die, you just lost 1/3 of your payload, but not all of it. On the subject of useless alloys: All mats will have a place, IMO. Since I'm planning on playing Ranger, that Rose Gold could come in handy when I'm in tight spaces. I trust ACE will design well enough that all stats have a place somewhere. Just because you don't need Mana Regen doesn't mean it won't be used. I bet Durenthal would love some Mana Regen

This is silly, MMORPGs are supposed to be interesting because of the social elements. A solo player should never expect to see 100% of the content if they don't want to participate in the social aspects of the game. The whole point of crowfall is to make sure that you have some sort of reliance on other people to experience a lot of the game. Can't take a castle by yourself.
  23. 1 point
Think of pack animals like extra storage slots but when they get killed the loot they have is taken. You inventory, which generally is pretty safe ( this will vary based on the CW though) place to hold stuff is very limited in size and can only hold X amount of things. If you want to hold more you summon out a pack animal and give it a bunch of stuff to transport over to a warehouse/shop/guildmate/safe spot etc If you need more about pack animals look at how Archeage does Trade packs and that pretty much is what a pack animal will be.
  24. 1 point
Yeah, I can't wait to see it, either. I like to imagine Blair having one of those crazy conspiracy walls somewhere in the office to keep track of what connects to what in the Crowfall economy design. Those first few campaigns are going to be very interesting since the only way to know these values will play out is to throw a bunch of players at it and see what falls out.
  25. 1 point
While I'm sure this is possible, I don't think ACE would design the individual values so poorly that it would actually happen to any serious degree. In their old alloy chart, you have two wildly different alloys that use the same metals, but in different amounts. People may not care at all about [Rose Gold] for LIfesteal (copper + gold), but a lot of people will want [Crown Gold] for Critical Hit Damage (copper + gold + gold). Still, the information we don't know about crafting could fill an Imperial Palace, so I acknowledge your concern.
