Been working on this all weekend (got the list of investors who'd cleared so far late Friday evening). Everyone with a crowfall.com account associated with their email is done, now I'm working on people who invested with a different email or had not created a crowfall.com account yet.

I don't know how anyone can stand to play with the 5 second lag hitches. That used to only happen when fights were 10v10 and higher and now we're seeing it in 5v5's.

That's an image poorly Photoshoped which I believe stemmed from Facerip and tried playing off onto discord. If you check the actual value he added a 1 at the beginning and a 9 at the end then tossed the serial #. Any other images their group may have brung up are also all fabricated the best way to prove this is to ask the devs to check the serial. http://imgur.com/a/ZRMC5

Sure, you may. Normal weapons were used. As you can see from the first vid link, the Myrm there opened his inventory after each fight to show his gear. Also here's another from Durenthal's perspective, where he also shows the weapon he was using during the fights: https://youtu.be/L7MyoikJsp0?t=1m50s

It is pretty horrible, but it is also understandable I think. I believe performance has always been kinda poor for BW, but it got considerably worse when they added the temples, crow system and necromancy stuff a couple builds ago. I imagine at this point they are just adding stuff until the game breaks and will save optimization for last. And I'm cool with that. Seems to be the standard way of how things are done. It just becomes more frustrating for us crowcaine heads ^^ However if their goal with the weekly weekend tests is to draw more backers in and a little extra $$ in the form of packages, this terrible performance and AT imbalances certainly won't help. I know for a fact I have been spending less time online in BW than I used to because of that. Probably others as well.

    Arrowheads

I've been trying to learn Manchu archery (which is neither here nor there). However, I recently ran across some pictures showing some a wide variety of different styles of Chinese arrowheads. Given that the Ranger (and probably the stalker) get to choose speciality arrows, I thought that folks would be interested in seeing (some) of what used to be out there There's quite a variety of different bodkin types for armor piercing and broadheads for use against unarmored opponents. You also have some more specialized arrow head types. (FWIW, no one can agree what the crescent moon shaped head is for). The weird narrow trapezoid shape is designed to split rattan armor. The arrowhead at the very top right is what's known as a plum needle head. This type of arrowhead was extremely expensive to make, only issued to elite troops, and they only got a dozen or sorry. (The Manchu's typically only carried a couple dozen arrows into battle)

    Greetings

Finally took the plunge after sitting on this founder's pack I bought. Today was my first time playing and it has been fun getting to meet new folks here. Not gonna lie, I am happy with my decision so far . I'm the first to admit I am not the greatest PvPer out there for sure, but getting better is always part of the fun :-P

    Leveling and Training

What we currently have as passive training has been called by Devs the analogue to "leveling," providing stat boosts (but with some choice involved). It functions pretty differently than what has been called "training" in the past. Often on "leveling" we get both stat boosts and the option to spend points of some kind - "training". I think that what ACE has planned for the passive system would be enhanced greatly by including points that can be spent and directly affect abilities. Whereas now we choose to raise our resource pool, our expertise with particular weapons or armor, and many other things. I think this should be overlaid with gaining points with which we can improve directly the abilities we have (training them). The features of this system could be (a quick sketch): As you complete a rank of passive training on an AT (let's say Forgemaster), you gain not only that skill bonus but also one point (maybe the points could have equivalent rank) You choose to spend that point to affect an ability of that AT, Promotion Class, or Discipline You can un-spend the point, but it has heavy costs associated This is key - there are more places to "spend" points, than points awarded. That is, even given infinite time, two Forgemasters will not be the same unless they made identical choices. The chance to directly choose to improve some abilities over others lets us decide what kind of Forgemaster we want to be. I think it would be even more interesting if the points are gained with an AT (Forgemaster) but can also be spent on disciplines abilities, specific to the FM. That is, I train my Werebear abilities, and so my Forgemaster Vessel better apply Werebear, or lose the potential benefits of my training. This could increase within-AT diversity many times over. Edit: As the Promotion Class idea has faded a bit (down from 3 for each to some unknown for each), this might be an interesting way to do Promotions. If you make particular choices with your discipline and AT training, you get a "named" promotion (doesn't even need to come with anything extra, tbh). For example, your druid spent all its points on the damage tray - that is a Witch; your druid spent all its points on the healing tray - that is a Gaian; your druid split its points - that is an Archdruid.

    Basic Crafting

I was hoping to kick off some discussions regarding the basic crafting tree. From my perspective, the arrangement of the nodes make no sense what-so-ever. First: There doesn't seem to be any logical relationship between the items being crafted and the node chain leading up them. If I want to become a leatherworker then I start by learning a bunch of stuff that makes me craft items quicker. Conversely, if I want to learn woodworking, I start by getting extra experimentation points. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the choices that are being foist on us. Second: If you inspect the chain of nodes leading up to blacksmithing and the like, each link in the chain provides exactly the same statistic. As a result, you have a weird saw toothed wave in the rate of speed that that you level. You start very quickly, then diminishing returns set in and things slow down. You complete the node and then things are fast again. If nothing else, why not replace the two tier 1 intermediate nodes with a single Tier 2? It would take the same total amount of time to complete, but diminishing returns wrt time would be consistent all the way across. Here's an example of a basic crafting layout that I think makes more sense You enter in the Basic Crafting Node in the center (Tier 1 node) Once this node is complete, you can either unlock professions like "Blacksmithing", "Woodworking", and the like OR invest in skills that improve your overall crafting abilities. Here, I tried to group things into three logical clusters. 1. Skills that impact the quality of the items that you produce 2. Skills that impact your efficiency in transforming raw materials into finished goods 3. Abilities that are related to mass production I'm sure that this can be improved upon, however, this scheme feels much more intuitive than what we have today

Maybe. Its a future problem for sure. I think we have to settle that the 'builds' wont be very deep. I think people confuse options with customization and depth. I doubt you will be able to build a short range tanky confessor that can focus on area/cone effects and take a beating. Useless 1on1 and doesn't do a huge amount of damage but can be annoying and can take beating. The ability to change the your role with a dynamic shift in passives/power effects. Instead you would have a confessor that pretty much does the exact same thing she does now, mobile range dps with decent CC, except she has some additional powers to maybe heal herself or do some neat debuffs. But i may be wrong, and i hope i am.

If you don't like the risk:reward for crowdfunding you're absolutely free to wait for retail release and buy a box like anyone else. Crowdfunding anything is a gamble, but nobody's forcing you to make a bet. Putting another game on kickstarter will not solve the problem of kickstarter games being a risk. Also, there are plenty of honest game companies making great games on kickstarter; it's just not all of them.

Thanks for hosting the meetup! I had a blast meeting you all in person and being able to hear your stories! I'm looking forward to future opportunities to interact with you. Also Gordon ended up being a surprise panelist at one of the Game Design Career panels on Saturday. It was quite educational and I learned some good stuff from it. - Wabice

    A Time for PvP

I really only made this post as I was concerned I was being too harsh, as I stumbled upon the harvester in the forums complaining of the ganking. They were upset that they couldn't escape and that it was pointless to PvP during the Alpha. I know it may be playtesting, but like I originally said, those resources are ones my guild could be using for playtesting. I am in the process of making a plate set for my Myrmidon, and the iron requirements force me to use the bank ever ten ore I gather, out of fear I confessor gets the drop on me. Thank you all for reassuring me that I am not being too cruel. I was slightly concerned, but in the end I just decided to attack a player once and then move on, leaving them be if I encountered them again. I remember them saying a duelist against a Myrmidon was an unfair fight. A day later I got in a fight with a duelist that proved challenging and fun! I was at 20% at the end, and smiling from ear to ear over the challenge the hamster posed. If I'd chosen not to whirlwind a few times I would have definitely died, as he was adept at running around. It was a strange ballet of carnage as he pierced me from my back and sides while I whirled about slamming him with my heavy maces. Anyway, hope this was a good weekend for everyone!

Just some fun footage from saturday test from the European server. (laggy patch!) Caldera's 4 man group ran into the german community CFC's multiple groups. Videos of group fighting along with both planned and improvised teamwork.... 3 group free for all fight: Crowfall - Druid - Caldera and CFC - 4v4v4 group fight A new tower building record? (and subsequent violent end after its collpase...) Also we are European so its a leaning tower? Crowfall - Caldera and CFC - Cross guild tower building (and violent collapse) Improvised alliance when another guild group (US's -W-) decided to crash our tower building party Crowfall - Druid - Caldera and CFC repel american invaders improvised alliance (quite the laggy challenge with no text/voice chat co-ordination and friendly fire along with limited name familarity between guilds) and bonus clip of post group wipe druid survival running/juking versus the multiple CFC groups...before they eventually got distracted with each other rather than their bloodlust for the only remaining caldera druid...

    Greetings

Welcome and sounds like you're off on the right foot. Alpha's a great time to play around w/ the combat system.

Your question is really specific. If you were to ask how many crafters and harvesters a guild needs to function comfortably overall, my answer would be at least one account for each harvesting and crafting skill, so a minimum of 12 harvesters and 8 crafters, but since a single person won't always be available you will probably need to double or maybe even triple that amount. You can start to understand how large guilds are going to have an overwhelming advantage and smaller guilds will probably struggle to make basic gear, unless they sub to another altruistic guild that takes pity on them. I understand games like SWG had an amazing and intricate crafting system that allowed crafters to feel absolutely needed and special but that game, as like most other games, also had a fully functional economy that alleviated the problem of obtaining gear if you couldn't craft it. I have yet to be convinced that any sort of economy will exist in Crowfall. If the large guilds that control the resources in the campaigns have no reason to sell or trade outside of their own circle, or incentives to export anything, there is no economy. This has been an issue raised multiple times but no real answers on it just yet. I feel that something has to give here, and it's probably going to cause a whole lot of head spinning along the way.

I'm more of a hobbyist, but I found nodejs, mongodb, expressjs and frontend frameworks like EmberJS, VueJs and even ReactJS to be fairly easy to pick up, learn and use. EmberJS is extremely opinionated and monolithic; it's basically an "all-in-one" solution with it's own data store, router and templating. VueJS / ReactJS are more aimed at the "view", but you can opt-in to things like routers and state management.

I think you should only respec in-between campaigns (good idea to whoever originally thought that up). No "heavy costs" since the archetypes would still be universal.

Hi Vydel, I was in your shoes not too long ago. My advice would be to learn a relevant stack of web technologies that are currently in demand. A short list of these would be HTML5, Angular.js, Node.js, and a database technology such as MongoDB. There are many web technologies out there, and many companies have different requirements -- but I have found these to be the most prevalent. Gain a fundamental understanding of how data gets passed around through CRUD calls.. Writing and interacting with API's (Application Programming Interfaces), and pushing your code to a repository using GitHub (Branching, Merging, Etc) as if you were working in a team environment. I found it easier to learn with hands on practice rather than buying books to read through. People learn differently though. Above all else, don't get discouraged. Programming is tough work. Best of luck on your journey ahead. Jared

I realize now this post didn't have much of a point, just kinda rambling worries about a game with no caps on the amount of skills you could learn. Thanks for the comments guys, I realize its hard to comment on an idea that has few salient points but I appreciate it.

    Basic Crafting

Hi Thomas Thanks for taking the time for such a thoughtful answers. I understand that consistency across the UI is a desirable trait. With that in mind: Take my diagram and strike all of the professions (blacksmithing, etc) from this tree completely. If a player tries to immediately hop into Blacksmithing, inform them that they (first) need to complete X% of the basic crafting tree. This maintains your third and fourth pillars. With respect to "bite sized chunks": I (personally) think that having people do one tier 2 node is more elegant than chaining a pair of T1 nodes. 1. Total training time to complete the two nodes is identical 2. You have a less clutter on the screen 3. The function mapping training time --> skill is much simpler On balance, I would value this more than a false set of completion from checking off a node. (De gustibus non est disputandum) I think that it would be interesting if there were synergy between crafting and combat skills. For example, a blacksmith who had skills in using a weapon might be better at crafting such a weapon (especially with experimentation). A character that wears leather armor, might be better at crafting leather armor. (Might not be worth the complexity that this would add, however, I think that it would add to the immersive quality of the game)

    Support power?

I suppose how valuable Support Power and Attack Power will be depends on which healing abilities a player comes to depend on the most. There's only 1 healing ability whose output was stated as dependent on damage done, but Divine Light, Holy Warrior and Brilliance all have healing affects that I assume will be buoyed by SP... as little as it does. If Devotion and its DPS-dependent healing is the bread and butter of the class then AP may well be much more useful.

    Most anticipated EK building?

I'm looking forward to the cathedral so I can operate my vendors out of it. I have 21 plots of farms and a villa, so I just need to find an EK to set up shop in. Thralls that serve as priests that offer temporary buffs would be neat, or to have them sell runes that you've made. The marketplace is another I can't wait for. My only curiosity is if the farms will allow me to grow food on them. If they do then I'll set up thralls to work on those to save up for winter.
