    Hungercast

Hello Friends & Enemies! For the past few months some of us have been reminiscing of the projects people put together during and shortly after the Crowfall Kickstarter campaign. In particular shows like Crowns & Crows, and Gold and Glory. It was something many of us looked forward to on a regular basis. A place where we could all gather around and chat about a game that we all are looking so forward to! I'm sure each of us have a favorite controversy, Valor tangent or Anhrez theory craft that we could look back on and think "I miss that." Well you are not alone! We feel the same way. It's finally time to reveal that we are starting a new video stream called Hungercast. What is Hungercast? It's a Crowfall centric stream. While other shows focused exclusively on Crowfall news we will be consuming all forms of Crowfall. This includes the awesome community that we've been apart of since Kickstarter. Here are some things to expect from Hungercast: Crowfall News - We will highlight important updates, game changes, announcements and content releases. Interviews - There is no shortage of interesting people surrounding Crowfall to interview; like Guild Leaders, Streamers, bloggers, YouTube makers & Tiger Fighting Devs. Community Highlights - Is a guild running an event? Hot topics on the forums? First person to craft a super parcel? We'll cover it and talk about it. Community Question - In between each episode we will post a topic and highlight the best comment posted by the community! Chat Polls - During the stream we will pose a question. At the end of the show we will we see where the chat stands on an issue and talk about it. Give-a-ways - From time to time we will just give back to the community with some give-a-ways! Eternal Kingdom swag, Crowfall shirts, bundles, or anything else we get our hand on. Now these are just a few things we have planned for the launch of Hungercast. As you can see we are trying our best to make it a show by and for the community. Oh yeah there is one thing I didn't mention...GUEST HOSTS. You see it's not much of a community stream if we don't bring the community on to help out. Each episode we are inviting community members to join us as a guest host. We have several people lined up already but since this will be (hopefully) a long ongoing series we will need your help. If you have something special coming up like an event you are running, a new Crowfall video, Blog post, are a guild leader or are vocal member of the community with a different view than us and would like to debate or be a guest host please email us at CrowfallCommunity@gmail.com. Quick run down: When: 11/4/10 Time: 2pm CST Where: https://www.twitch.tv/crowfallcommunity What: Community Stream Hosted By: Keaggan & Noc. Thanks for checking this out. See you next week on the Hungercast! -Keaggan & Noc

    What We Want

"How a battle ends." This sounds simple but is really important. The reason it sounds simple is because mmo-battle gamers are used to, for the most part, the two only battle victory conditions being, 1) zerg and in the case the numbers are even, 2) overall player skill and level. This is as far as it goes. But battles are too important for games based on large-scale battles to end either of these ways only. Battles can be fashioned through game dynamics with minimal outside elements. Look at MOBA's and the win-conditions created by the dynamics of those games. MMO battle can do the same. Victory can be achieved through win conditions apart from "We killed them because they're noobs," and "zerg." Implanting the right mechanics into your characters can form dynamic win conditions for battle. It's worth doing.

Am I the only one who is exactly the opposite? Watching the game get made is fascinating! Everyone is in such a hurry to play. As my good friend, Andy, said, "I wish there was a way to know you’re in the good old days before you’ve actually left them."

    Some harvesting questions

Honestly, the names for Plentiful Harvest and Beneficial Harvest seem backwards. Intuitively, "Plentiful Harvest" makes me think it's going to increase the quantity of my harvest (or, at the very least, doesn't sound like I'm going to get better quality things by any stretch of the word), whilst "Beneficial Harvest" sounds more like the harvest quality is going to "benefit." I know it's minor, but this was honestly very confusing to me for a while now, as I have yet to get to actually download the new client and sit down and test the game's harvesting.

1 Mob To Pwn Them All

The Wyvern is tailor-made to fill this niche, for instance. At launch, I'd like to see one of these these uber-powerful PvE creatures randomly located on the CW map, inactive when the world opens and activated by player action (purposeful or not). For example, an activation event might be: walking into a mountain cave entrance; destroying a particular tree, mob or motherlode node; or entering a specific room in a particular stronghold. After activation the creature would naturally attack the closest player(s) and wander with unlimited leash until killed. Such a creature should have some legendary and unique resources (required in special recipes) on its loot table and extra time to harvest them.

im hoping for some worldboss later on that drops some mats, not mechanically hard just insane with its numbers (onehits everything left and right) but adding something like that wont solve the problem of people not building walls they will be build later on if you actually have to protect mats or npc´s, no reason to build them at the moment tho

Well, haven't updated this section for a while (most action going on in german sub forum) but this is one to share with all of you: We just launched a Crowfall Database featuring Powers and Disciplines with more to come soon! You could say it's currently still under development but solid enough to share first data with you. If you find bugs, outdated information or have other feedback for us, it would be great hearing from you (PN, E-Mail, etc.) Names + Descriptions are currently English only, working on unofficial translation for German audience. We are proud to share, please let us know how you like it!

Hello my lovley fellows! I am proud to announce you the first german fansite just released it's first version on www.crowfall-community.de! From now on, we will serve the german community with latest news, german game information and provide them a massive board for discussions. We got some big plans and we are ready to go! Pretty much like Artcraft after getting successfully funded by the awesome fanbase! Although our main language on the site will be german regarding news posts and language spoken by our staff, our system provides full multi language usage. Right now we are focusing on german but maintain the support of english editing. If we see huge demand on english speaking people on our site, we might expand our staff and create more english areas for you. But for now, that's all I want to say to the international community! All german speaking people start or continue reading here: Hallo liebe Crowfall Freunde! I think if you see that many "red dots" near your fort, its safe to assume your about to be hit hard and already to late to do anything about it. That was half the fun in Shadowbane.....gathering intel and counter intel. At least for those who were dedicated scouts/hit squads.

    What We Want

And where do we want them? In our bedchambers! Anyway... @Monx brings up some good points about the structure of brainstorming and developing powers and classes, and how it can affect the gameplay experience... You present a good argument for putting balance before cool factor; the people who play the game are more than capable of finding the fun themselves, especially if the base that they're playing on is well-structured and allows each player to have meaningful interactions that don't overshadow everyone else's. Unfortunately I'm not qualified enough to know how these things idealistically play out on the Devs' side of the whiteboard nor the specifics of how it actually plays out, with ACE or any other company, but I'd imagine that ACE already have these self-checks in place. This isn't their first rodeo after all, but I do feel like it's a good idea to make sure that game balance is kept in the forefront of the Devs' minds at least as much as "cool/fun factor". As for the Devs remaining dispassionate about their creations (that's not going to happen), and players wanting to throw around cool abilities and see it play out with other people and their cool abilities... It's just in our nature; we're emotional creatures who love to manipulate our environments, solve problems and be surrounded with exciting stimuli! That doesn't mean we shouldn't exercise restraint and aim for something that's objectively balanced, of course, but all these things aren't mutually exclusive - just gotta get the priorities right and walk the tightrope.

Nah, he's accurate. Typically only one or two dominate voices in a voice comms will shot call during PvP with a few people providing updates on enemy strength positions, etc. If your voice comms is a chorus, then I'm sure all three of you are great. But yes, LiF's PvP is terrible. It was terrible before it was a MMO. But game designers are stubborn and think their combat design is superb, ignoring internal and external feedback. Don't worry, they'll make a public apology video, remove it, and then continue on previous course.

You will be able to bot in CF. Im pretty sure that someone can write a program to play the mini game for harvesting. Once you have that, all you have to do is rent some space in the Dregs from the zerg guild running it. Then you take your Dregs resources and sell them to the players only playing in the higher bands. Niche games have botters and aiming programs. I played Mechwarrior Online and that is a very niche game with a limited player base. There was an aiming program that could snipe people and there were players using it. I think the solution is to kill botters and everyone else who is red to you. That and making the embargo bank a physical location that you have to travel to and control if you want to export. Another slice of the swiss cheese. Make an alliance or bend the knee to get your goods to the embargo bank.
  26. 1 point
I don't even see the point of bots in the first place. There is no auction house, you have to start from scratch when going into a new campaign which is a new world where resources and harvesting locations will change rapidly so there are no efficient farming routes like there are in other MMO's. Anyone trying to farm resources would literally have to just play the game and all non-vaulted resources get lost the moment the campaign ends so it's going to be extremely hard to hoard up enough valuable resources to interest other players enough to want to pay money for them. You would have to play through a several month campaign just to hopefully get the chance (if you win) to take some resources with you and then hope that you find a player dumb enough to pay you a few bucks for them. That is not a reliable way for traditional gold farmers to make any kind of money. The only thing I could possibly see people selling for cash would be valuable manufactured stuff (valuable weapons, armor sets or maybe plots of land for EK's) but in order to get those in the first place you would need to invest a lot of time in the game, and those won't sell for nearly as much as in other MMO's due to the fact that they will break in time.

I found CF searching online, mmorpg.com most likely. Always hard to find the best games. Unlike all the terrible crap steam and facebook (facebook lies) spew out... I think I came across CF years ago, but I didn't investigate it at the time, so no super early backer for me. About me: I'm a gamer of over 30 years, prettymuch all types of games (genres and rules included) and every platform up until the Wii. Strategy and planning are my favorites (Gimme a hex grid and unit details!), but I also like action RPG (Path of Exile) and MMO's too (UO, WoW, Darkfall, SotA for awhile, to name a few). Not a fan of EVE, didn't play much SWG. I do a little MOBA once in awhile (used to play LoL, but that community.... I stick to some SC2 mods). If I'm not competing against a human rival/opponent, then the game is boring. AI is way too easy to defeat, though the planning part of figuring out ways to beat overwhelming AI was fun... because one player wasn't meant to be able to perform such a feat. As a level 60, soloing ZG in WoW (all trash, no bosses) was interesting until I had it down to a science. Same thing with Black Temple trash mobs and a pile of the other lesser dungeons (could usually kill the bosses in those). Plenty of experience as an alpha tester, tolerance for bugs, and the perception to detect them, at least once I've gotten used to how the game is supposed to be. Love the thrill of a full loot full world pvp game, pretty cool that the rule can change from one campaign to the next and the whole campaign system/changing worlds with persistent character data. I have mixed feelings about the passive skill gain system and VIP perks in CF.

    Hunger in Crowfall

Seems like a chore and waste of inventory space, being required to carry and consume food. I hope there is more to this system later that makes it less of a chore. I know certain races and possibly classes will have modifiers to how quickly you become hungry in addition to what actions you take. IMO, food consumption should be based off of stamina recovery and stamina should be consumed for jump, sprint, harvest, damage taken, and abilities used, race/class/rune modifiers applied.

    Some harvesting questions

The tools stats ONLY affect the final destruction pop. The tool penetration (mining, quarrying, etc) makes the tool do more damage each swing. Plentiful Harvest - one to five pips determines the lookup table for the tier of resource you are mining... more pips= better table Every player begins with one pip, you get 2 more from deep in your chosen harvest familiarity tree, the last from the final node (1.2 years out in the old TTT in 5.3 it may be more like 4 months out with a double dip.) The fifth pip comes from either a crafted Plentiful harvest potion OR from the final leadership tree harvest branch. A laborer discipline will allow an artificial bump to 3 pips but replaces your trained pips so will never get beyond 4. Beneficial Harvest - you have a chance to trigger this buff when you destroy a resource node. You train 10% in the basics tree for your chosen resource type. You train 10% more chance, length of buff and power of buff late in your resource familiarity tree When triggered you get 28 secs to destroy the next node (32+ with training) The buff gives +30% (or more with beneficial power) chance for a critical harvest The buff also gives a small stamina regen and a run speed boost. In short Beneficial Harvest gives you a better chance for a critical harvest "fountain" while the Plentiful Harvest pips give you the chance for quality you may pop. Harvest Amount adds 1-1 doobers per point you have... Good blue armor and weapon with harvesting stat +amount can give as much as 4 more high quality doobers... best I have seen is 8 purple and 7 orange. Yes motherlodes need a group... they are less efficient for getting normal resources but are the only source of minerals and gems. Minerals are essential in alchemy to allow necromancers to bring vessels to life. Gems are for jewelry. You don't go after motherlodes really until you are needing gems and vessels, they are not worth the tool wear otherwise. The temporary potions for training completely wreck this information though... we really, really want them gone.

This sounds terrible. The helicopter from Rust was pretty awesome, though- it only attacked you if you had a weapon equipped, and would lose interest in you if you found cover and didn't return fire. I don't know how that would work in a mostly melee game like Crowfall.

    Hunger in Crowfall

If you need 3 apples in 5 hours then way even bother with the mechanic in the game? Why add more complexity when it is not needed. There are enough great possibilities in the game play and hunger is not one of them. A great crafting and pvp game is what people want. Right? People play games to have fun and not feel that the game they are playing is a burden. Now what is a burden to me vs others may be polar opposites. I do have a life outside gaming and I intend to keep it that way. There are only so many no lifers around. I hope the game will be for both.

The color orange, and the absolute intolerance for whiny nonsense. I wouldn't call it casual as much as I'd call it pragmatic. A lot of guilds are super concerned with "pride" and being "the best" and it's exhausting. The fact is there's only ever going to be one "the best" and mathematically chances are that ain't your guild. The practice of embracing that philosophy defines us. Realizing you're not going to win them all, and not acting like you're twelve and turning on your guildmates when you don't. Anyone who self-identifies as "elite" or endlessly complains about "numbers" is useless to me. Anyone willing to float their ego around and talk down to other guilds is useless to me. It's a position of pride that flies in the face of what it actually takes to succeed. Sometimes you've got to sub, sometimes you've got to kneel, and sometimes you've got to run naked with swords. If you're not willing to do what it takes to get ahead when faced with the reality of a bad situation, and do it gracefully, I probably don't want to play video games with you. You are not a special snowflake, and nobody here is going to coddle your delusions of grandeur. Thus, a recruiting post designed to be kryptonite to that kind of player. I like people that can have fun losing, but are willing to give the shirt off their back if it means the people around them win, because winning is a group effort. It's my firm belief that if you're in a guild with people you wouldn't want to have a beer with in real life, you're in the wrong guild. A guild is a family business. It's a team where all the members are unpaid volunteers. After having been in a few that skew too far in the "trading fun for efficiency" direction, the core of FOE decided we just simply don't care any more. You pull in people that you get along with. You pull in team players because team players play as a team, and solid team play gets you wins, but more importantly it sticks together when you lose. We decided to form FOE because we got just plain tired of dealing with prima donnas who're more concerned with showing up their teammates or defending their precious e-honor than helping the people around them improve. As an officer or GM it just makes playing games not fun any more when you have to constantly separate members from one another an moderate disputes over stupid hogwash. Thus, I'd rather have a moderately skilled player with a good attitude than an amazing player with a poor one that pisses off his teammates.

Just a short update for our international fellows: We are proud our community is appreciating the efford we put into this project. We are growing and growing and lots of discussions are going on on our boards. A week after launch we released our new guild database "Guild Index" for all those players looking for a nice place to be and guildmasters to promote their unity. There are a lot of things we are going to introduce in the near future, but for now that's it.

Why hunger? It has been done over and over. Why not come up with something new? MMO's are starting to feel like Hollywood movies. Nothing new, nothing good and remakes of movies that were good.
