The funniest thing is I posted the vid that shows you getting blown up @moneda. If you look closely you can see you dropped parry just before the damage hit almost like you ran out of pips or something. Also in that same vid I show a duelist surviving this so called guaranteed 1 shot along side a cleric. Both of which were above 1/3 health and walked away cleanly. I also showed a myrm who mitigated it a few times, so the question is how is it possible that a duelist, cleric and myrm all mitigate this damage if its a 1 shot guaranteed kill mechanic you guys are crying about? Ive been on the receiving end of bombs a few times including to a beautiful one from Anthrage that we not only lived through the blast we were able to rally and take the fort and win in the end. People just don't want to have to work and they wont be happy until we are all running around in cotton candy boxing gloves having tickle fights because otherwise its to much damage. Stick a Templar in the entrance to a keep doing parry riposte over and over while standing in his divine light with a standard bearer from his healer getting rescued. He is pumping out WAY more damage and is unkillable but no one complains about it however you put a druid bomb in that same spot over the span of 30 seconds and add in a splash of people to stupid to hit their ULT or block or even just have a single defensive disc slotted as soon as that bomb goes off its nerf city.

    When players think...

Well damn, if you all trying to accomplish something, maybe advertise in chats whats going on. All we know is friend is locked INSIDE and can't get out (not me, so covered his name as he'd rather quit the game than have to deal with it), and gave it a few minutes and just said eff it and logged out. Its great you're trying to use one of the many accounts to protect yourself but at least share that info. It was fairly obvious that people were trying to come and go out of the house as there were a few trying to jump in/out during the same time. Anyways, try to remember the little guy isn't gonna be like.. excuse me sir.. may i walk here .... as of late, the go to conclusion is thinking it's a griefing move like doober jacking and such.

    When players think...

Thanks for your question. Fortunately it is very simple to answer: If you have the feeling that someone is acting against the rules (like if a used "exploit hurts the play experience of other testers", as described in this ACE news) the right reaction is to inform support@crowfall.com about it. In no way you are to openly accuse someone for wrongdoing on the official forums - for this would be against the rules itself (Rules of Conduct -> Accusing). You may discuss the general topic, but without naming individuals. So if you indeed want to discuss the general topic without being reported yourself (or to be frank: in any case), i would suggest to remove all the names from the screenshot, not just yours. If you want to report probable wrongdoing, discretely contact support@crowfall.com. Some recommendations for the future. Try to explain you think you have seen. If you just show a picture, not everybody might understand what you are talking about (since you are not talking about). That reduces the chance of a fruitful discussion a lot. Try not to complain just because you didn't get something (and especially not out of wounded pride). People often sense it and judge this as weakness. You don't want to seem weak. It's the beginning of the end. Better: If you take a blow, don't complain but choose your weapon, prepare and strike back. Giving yourself a 24h cool-down time before reacting may also be a good idea sometimes. If want to complain/fight against the dark side ... don't join the dark side while trying to do so. For the dark side consumes itself. And if you go to be part of it, it will start with you. Just some ideas. Anyways ... Have fun, good luck Kraahk

Time Based Skill system But why???

What about post launch? With Tomes, new players might not have the pleasure of dealing with initial "hard work" of clicking nodes and waiting just to make it to a more specialized route and way of playing. If the initial time is part of the game and experience, why would ACE create a system that allows folks to skip it or at least greatly reduce the time? Then again, if the game has a "super shallow power curve" and passive training doesn't matter all that much, why would new players need to catch up to begin with? We should already be able to play the game how we want from the start right?

So watched some videos on crafting and gathering and saw the cool stuff they adding and what not. Non of that showed me I had to wait hours and hours just so I might be able to crafter better gear. So basicly I'm playing eve online and just log in every month to check skill progression then some day when my skills are high enogh I can jump in the game and actualy play.. Wait I'm a new player that just downloaded the game tho... its ok pick your skills log out come back in a month.... The videos sound great jump in no levels everyone kill everyone have fun doing it.... well until they find out you hit with a brick wall to start???? Sorry that was just my feelings on it may not effect others like me. I enjoy hopping into a new game and just grind fest so I can get to play with the big boys but in my opinion the big boys just started a long time ago so now I have to wait real world time ( lol real world that's why I play games) to level sorry skill up ( sad face) I love crafting so to find out I have to not only skill up the tree under exploration I also have to skill up the crafting tree... talk about brick walls... Oh also not sure if I'm lagging but would be nice if Hot bar moves would intrupt me holding down LMB so I would not have to completely stop moving so I could go into the gather resource buff or so I could hit a skill while fighting. Being able to move around while resource gathering would be cool too.. like out in the wild some ones coming at you I start straifing away during a swing on resource action to start getting away instead of completely stopping out of the action so I can start moving again. Toned it down some was really (mean words) mad that ppl even used this kinda skill based system the only game that pulled it off how you would even want to use this kinda system was Mortal online because the time based skill system is used for ppl who don't have time to play and so you work you gain skill you off line you gain skill but at the pas of the time based skill system

    State of the Knight 5.4.3

The speed of development is picking up, and we're getting more of the intended gameplay now. We can level our vessels, disciplines are more widely understood and available to more classes (bowknight is a thing now, for instance). And knight feels pretty good right now. The addition of bows to knights has me a bit ambivalent. On one hand, it makes knights a lot more capable. Bows hit hard (because they're slow) and at range, which mitigates some of the problems knights have had up to this point. On the other hand, in many cases, a bow discipline feels almost required to make the class viable. Not in every case, mind, and maybe not going forward, but when they were first added, it certainly felt that way. Right now, I feel balance as a whole is as good as it has ever been in Crowfall. Right now, I don't fear any particular class. I do fear particular players, of a variety of classes. To me, this says the game is in a good place. Personal skill matters, and the classes are close enough to each other that there's no single massively overpowered class/build that dominates everything else. I give the devs a lot of grief over balance when they get it wrong, so it's only fair that I give props to @mhalashace and @thomasblair when they get it right. Now, when we gear up all our classes and combine that with the accelerated training, imbalances may suddenly appear again. But there's a good place at the core, and things will be tweaked many times before release. Things that need work: chain pull still doesn't pull targets all the way to the caster most of the time the dodge-pip-steal is too situational to have on a power on its own, especially given that it does almost no damage. Hard to justify including it on the power bar. We have only a few disciplines that feel viable on the knight. That's actually the case across most classes though. A pass is needed on the weaker major disciplines. Block feels weaker than it should. It needs more mitigation, perhaps. Or the dmg bonus period needs to last longer. Something. It's a pretty small list of problems this time around.

Time Based Skill system But why???

I'm not for active over passive progression, rather I don't believe such games "need" permanent vertical stat progression at all to allow for competitive play and customized builds. CF already has plenty of ways to build characters. I definitely don't want to spend the majority of my time grinding or waiting around for others to grind out XYZ so I can then play how I want. Which is pretty much what we have now. As far as backing because of passive progression... KS didn't really go into it at all beyond the FAQ stating there was passive progression of "skills." I'd argue that the "skills" we have are pretty lackluster and IMO go against the "super shallow power curve" they are promising. Plenty minor and major KS features have changed along with what was originally listed in the FAQ which is rather outdated. Although it did list more about progression early on if that is what you are referring to. Ideally, there is no "end game." Eventually people will max out lines and have top quality gear, but it's all relative to the moment in which anything can happen. Issue I have that hopefully they address fully is the early game needs to be fun and allow for "the game" to happen. If players are gated behind rather boring options early on (basic lines specifically), might lose some interest very quickly. As jetah mentioned, EVE's system of allowing people to pick and choose a lot more freely is better IMO. Still allows for a lot of pre-reqs and time gated progress, but players aren't funneled so much. Not really fair comparison as the games are much different, but to me they simply started out with a better basic model to later build on. Without restructuring, CF won't be as engaging long term. Once you pick a "Profession"/Race Path/Class Path, pretty much locked into them if one wants to be efficient. VIP allowing 2 is a major selling point for this reason. Although its sounds like they will try to rush people through the boring start, so not that bad potentially. Again, if we didn't have vertical stat progression aka "the power race," there wouldn't be any need to catch up, feeling of being left behind, grinding to reach X, etc. A more complex/deep game design would of went a lot further to engage/challenge players at the start and years down the line when it comes to this area at least. Maybe? Only played SB briefly at the start so really can't remember. I was under the impression one could make a new character and grind out lvls and get the gear/disciplines relatively quickly to jump to top end game play. The new CF vessel leveling does provide stats, but the passive system is still in the background so one isn't fully done until they wait for time to pass. Along with the gap between new/old existing in some form or another. Just find it kind of odd that you and others say you backed specifically for passive progression, yet are fine that they've added in active grinding progression. Sure it might not be as bad as insert game title, but it's still time we'll have to put in each time we get a new vessel if we want to be at maximum potential. IMO, they could just as easily put all the passive progression power into the same system and allow players to grind it out all the same. Instead of 50 Dex over a weekend, we'd get 200 or whatever it going to happen. Just up the cap. Puts the option into players hands if they want to put in the time or not for the extra bit of edge. Requires effort/time/skill and comes with risk v reward. Clicking a node and waiting requires time and more time only. But, neither system would be my ideal. We'll see. If I didn't have some hope, wouldn't have stuck around. EVE seems to be superior from what I can understand of it. ACE seems to have took inspiration from it, but much was lost in translation, which makes sense considering the differences between the games. But again, a non vertical stat progression system built on horizontal options would be superior IMO. Which could work but would require re-tooling to how resources and crafting work. All gear and resources would need to be relatively equal without any tiered system. Which I've had some ideas on but it's pointless as they've already gone down the tried and true, vertical design path.

Time Based Skill system But why???

That is not actually the case... the manufacturer nodes are unlocked in the basics tree (the graphic puts it to the right of BS but BS does not unlock it!) To get the better outcomes from using factories you don't have to train any of the crafts, you can work from blueprints given to you by any of the crafting professions. You need to train that odd node between the basic crafting assembly and basic crafting speed branches in the basics tree. The individual crafts have a branch for workbench thrall quality and for blueprint quality, these are where the BPs are made. Neither BPs or factories are do into the game for the short term.

Time Based Skill system But why???

While not superior, Eve Online offers passive training but is a little better in that you can directly train what you want. I started as a miner (gatherer) while needing to defend myself I paused those and went into drones (npc's that defend you or an ally). After some of that training I needed better ship skills so i purchased some navigation skills and started those. After a while my mining was doing great but I needed a better ship. I bought new ship skills and started that. Once I had a better ship and could mine well enough, I started manufacturing and production skills. All of these skills didn't have prerequisites. There were skills that required mining 4 or science 4 or navigation 5. With CF if you want mass manufacturing you need blacksmithing. You can't train necromancy and then mass manufacturing.

in the Race group. Basic takes 3 months to train. The next group (Man, Monster) takes 6 months each, next group (Human, Half-blood) takes 1 year each. Totaling 7 years 9 months of straight training. VIP will cost ~1400$ for that total amount of time but should only take half that so 3 years 11 months (it's a guess) at a cost of ~700$. Remember that the first group gives you the best stats per time trained. the second group gives average stats per time and the last group gives the worst.

Time Based Skill system But why???

Nobody mentions that the skills take longer and longer to complete thus a player at 6 months is training nodes that take 14 days vs a new player completing nodes in 3 days (1.5 days to 4 pips). While the newer player will not catch up completely with this, they will slowly narrow the gap and tomes narrows it further. Note: for the most part the nodes have the same value although some nodes for races and classes have some traditional boosts to some nodes: i.e elves have some nodes that give 10 int instead of 5 late in the tree and some classes have nodes that give 5% crit instead of 3.

I am not going to do the whole bolded thing here. The reason why I think joining a guild that's willing to help you out as a new player is the solution cause it makes that player feel like they're part of an actual team. Crowfall isn't going to have the same "kind" of competitive feel like WoW. Even if you want to compare it's competitiveness to the likes of something that's not similar to it, such as a MOBA or even PUBG, it still has that strong emphasis of team and group cooperation beyond just 5 man groups. There's going to be small group coordination just like there will be much larger groups dynamics. It's a MMO after all. Albion Online is probably one of the most comparable games to Crowfall. The only way to become competitive in that game is to prove you actually can do Hellgates, GvGs, and castle sieges with a noticeable amount of skill. The only way to get that experience in doing those things to get better is to actually do them. If you can't join a guild that's willing to get you some experience in that then what purpose do you have in that guild? It becomes irrelevant at that point what tier of gear you can wear and use for all of those sources of pvp. You're left to wait around to do open world pvp which doesn't really exist in the game anymore. And why is there going to always be someone with an advantage or disadvantage? That's the nature of competition. There's always someone that's going to have better options or resources than you or even comparable ones but with better management skills of those resources. One of the main problems why new players in Albion Online couldn't get any sort of competitive pvp experience in was cause stuff was funneled to a small group of players. Mostly the top 15 in the guild you join. What caused this is because of the lack of things you can do in Albion. You could basically wait for open world pvp, go on resource runs, or go on silver runs. That was for new and veteran players a like who couldn't get into the actual competitive pvp. I don't know what esports has to do with Crowfall cause I haven't heard anything from ACE saying they've got the esport scene on their minds. Even if they do, designing a game around that is probably a terrible idea. If you look at the majority of the games that are making it in esports they are small team based or solo player based gaming experiences. Crowfall isn't designed solely for small team based (team based yes but more on a sliding scale of how large the group can be cause castle sieges are a thing) or solo based. The WoW arena esport scene isn't even relevant enough either. Maybe this stuff would if Crowfall was going to have some sort of 2v2, 3v3, and 5v5 arena system but I highly doubt it ever will. You said to remove gates and nobody would be behind. This isn't aligned with the core vision of what ACE wants and they most likely are going to keep the system. Eternal heroes and dying worlds kind of is the premise of what the skill training does. Nobody knows how much overall power your vessels will get exactly from the skill training. I've heard a number floating around on the forums of ~10% but that's probably a wild guess and even if it's sourced from ACE it still isn't accurate IMO. All we can really do is go off what we've been told and use the most recent information we have and that's what I did. I think at the end of the day if someone wants to play competitive, they aren't going to let a passive skill training system in a game be the deciding factor of whether or not they will play Crowfall. There's always someone who is going to be better than you in any online game you play. Just have to suck it up and work on getting better to over come opposition. APE, the only thing I am concerned about with the skill training is how much power your character gets from it. I think without exact actual numbers in a more complete game loop environment, we won't really know for sure. It isn't like the training system can't be scrapped after launch completely if it becomes that big of an issue. Just means VIP would need to be reworked for something else and that could bring up an entirely even bigger issue by itself. /endrant

Time Based Skill system But why???

it was great in archeage when we were able to get some new people in and bring them along with us on naval raids. I liked the idea that a new person was able to contribute something without having to spend time getting to max level. I loved Eve taking away that leveling process and tying it to real time. Instead of increasing the level every expansion they add more skills. No one was ever done training in Eve (pre-injectors) when I played it last. That has changed recently, however. One problem was starting 5 years after the game launched but people were able to sell characters within the confines of the system. Anyone could buy plex and trade them for a character which allowed new players to 'catch up' so to speak. I'll enjoy getting new guild members to play and them not having to spend a week(end) leveling a character to join us! Sure the skills may help but sometimes having quantity is better than quality.

I definitely agree that the people that have spent the time and have played since launch should have an advantage as they have already put forth the time and effort to get to that spot. My point was that someone who has spent the time will have better overall stats from some one is who has little to no training.
  43. 1 point
This is no different than someone at max level in WoW with the best pvp gear versus someone who just hit max level and is now entering pvp. There is always going to be someone with an advantage or disadvantage. Someone 6 months in their skill training playing the game compared to a new player shouldn't be balanced. It never should be balanced ever in any online game that's competitive.

Time Based Skill system But why???

By the time you start getting higher into the trees the advantages are much larger, especially as they start to accumulate. The route you decide to take will have a huge impact on how you play your character, which will more than likely depend on your play style and approach to the game. When you start adding points in multiple trees the impact is massive. That can become a problem when we get to 6 months plus after launch, a new player would be at a serious disadvantage compared to someone who has been playing since day 1. To close that gap the new player can use tomes to accelerate that process. Regardless of your play style and approach to the game you can always find something to work on.

Time Based Skill system But why???

What's the difference between actively grinding and waiting for time to pass? Assuming you can play "the game" day 1 and it's just a matter of having access to better/more options after grinding or waiting for time to pass? Also to point out, the "grind" people seem to be tired of doesn't really exist anymore. At least not compared to MMOs 10-15+ years ago. Believe I've read Shadowbane folks saying they would grind out a new character/build over a weekend or two. That seems a lot more interesting and rewarding then CF's system. Most old and new MMOs make progress almost too fast in most cases. Funny that now we have Passive training which IMO is more tedious than actively grinding, but then they add in leveling Vessels by doing what? Grinding!!! mobs and sacrificing items that had to come from more grinding of resources/crafting... MMOs are grind. CF is no different and if anything might be worse than older games. Grind for apples. Grind for resources. Grind out gear/Vessels. Grind out Vessel levels. Patiently wait (mental grind) for Passive training to progress. Things are still working themselves out, but the initial "don't want to feel another xp bar" comment is certainly not what is happening. Different wrapper is all.
  46. 1 point
Because people are tired of grind to catch up to friends, and being left so far behind as to be locked out with playing with their dedicated friends that are online way more than they are. Because that's what ACE has been selling since day one, and a bunch of us who don't want to grind XP in yet another MMO happen to like the idea and backed with money the developers that said they were going to do it.

You can be rewarded for grinding in CWs. But the passive system itself obviously does not. Most of the progression you will feel day to day will all be in the CWs. Disciplines, vessels, gear, etc, etc.

Time Based Skill system But why???

That is definitely a wall of text but I'll try to decipher it. 1. Yes of course you need to train crafting to craft the best gear. Why would you be able to instantly craft the best gear your first minute playing? It's just the same as say, leveling up a professional to max level in WoW or something. 2. They are skill wiping at soft launch I believe so that will be an even starting place for everyone, including those who are behind in training right now. Moving forward, the devs have been considering some sort of mechanic to help newer players catch up though it won't be anything too crazy. Plus the initial crafting skills don't take too much time to learn. 3. I'm not sure what you mean by hot bar skills interrupting your LMB. However I believe they actually do interrupt your LMB if you're gathering. You can also move while gathering (holding LMB rather) to reposition on the node. Don't worry to much about the crafting skills and passive system. Everyone will be in the same boat come soft launch.

    when will the game launch?

What you do not want to miss is the final reset wipe of skills which will happen sometime this year, my prediction is August. The game will go full retail release with advertising spending around years end but by then active players will be well into the skill trees and new players will be behind and at significant disadvantage for a few months.
