Is in gaming spying an exploit?

Who cares, it's Faction, as soon as Dregs comes online Faction will be for all the people who complain in general chat about getting ganked by assassins and not knowing what to do after they reach level 10 on a vessel. If Faction worlds aren't mostly dead and lame, I'd be really surprised.

ACE can't force people to play Factions in good faith. There will always be people taking advantage of the limitations of Factions. The solution is to play on the Dregs.

Is in gaming spying an exploit?

No way to completely remove it from faction rulesets - the goal should be to design systems so that low-effort "parking an alt to spy" doesn't pay off. For example, Temples and the Free City have one platform with multiple runegates, each going to a unique location. Very easy to park an alt spy and watch to see who goes in each gate. How about changing that to many scattered runegates, each one going to multiple locations of the users choice (menu pop up)? A spy wouldn't be able to see the destination, and you would need many alt accounts to cover all the locations. However, if someone wants to invest in a long con, active deep cover espionage then more power to them! Love those stories from EVE.

Emperor Shōwa was a great man and the leader of my mothers people for 63 years. Any issues you have with him aren't pertinent to CF and should be left alone imo. I won't be using my accounts till the dregs to keep them pristine and fingerprint-less until I need them. I can't imagine anybody legitimately playing long term in factions, you won't actually own anything and to me that's the whole point of playing.

    1. Calling me a bastard is a reportable offense and a personal attack. I’m senesitive and you deserve to be banned. 2. As the duly elected representative of all dregs players I am obligated to point out that it’s not an issue that impacts us. We don’t have forced alliances and if somebody is a spy we can just kick them and kill them.

    a Revision to Game Play.

For the record, and for anyone else, who takes any kind of defensive stance for the current state of the game, the solo players winning in a 3 v 1 fight is against everything they just said about balance in this video. In fact their basic idea is to be strong in one regard and weak in others, and that is not what is in this game currently, which is the problem. Now if they bring the game into their expressed view of balance then it will be a much better game. But, given their own expressed vision, they have a poorly made socks lot of work ahead of them to get this game anywhere near close to what they just described.

Why should i bother to play in alpha?

As far as I am concerned, after a little chat with Mandalore, I'm good with the direction things are going. It seems that devs do recognize that there is an issue with the new player experience right now (which is really all I wanted to hear), it just is not their priority to fix it in the very near future (and yeah I agree it should not). For the state the game is right now (pre-alpha) joining a community/guild is a perfectly acceptable workaround and I guess people need to understand that we are quite far from the finished version. The fact that new players "need" to join a community now does not mean it will always be like that and devs want it to be like that for their game at release. It's the best workaround we have access in pre-alpha nothing more nothing less. Their is still a long way to go and a lot of testing to do before "new player experience" get to the top of the todo list so either you bear with it for now or you wait a good bit before coming back (and I mean really a fair bit lol). Clearly, I wish it would be in for alpha (because it will probably be an iterative process) but there are a ton of more important things that they need to address before that (like stability).

Due to the expansive nature of the Undead Alliance structure, Pest UDL has starting to hire contractors to help with his admin. For those looking for the primary guild experience theres the core of the 10 year old alliance: Undead Lords (70+)--the Knights of Myrkul, a death cult RP! Lords of Death (70+)--Another death cult. and Sinister (50+)--vaguely brooding folks that missed the memo on the naming scheme. For those seeking a more unique experience, UDL offers a full range of subguild options: TheBalance (not to be confused with the faction) for the discerning roaming killer. Obsidian for the stealth obsessed Screeling Mostly Harmless, for the un-ironically named. Mithril Warhammers for the dwarvishly inclined For the more independently minded Chaos member there is always Lords of the Dead (30+)(LotD, not to be confused with LoD)--another death cult not quite ready to make the jump to Undead Alliance. Any Elves, Former Elves, and Wannabe-Legolases wishing to join the Undead Alliance may contact @nerion and @MarsJust, UDL Chief Ministers for Elven Re-education and Immigration. @Ginko's door is always open for any new guilds that have yet to hear about a Death Cult near you! Preferred communication is through multiple PMs and spammed discord messages. Join the Undead Alliance Today! Why should i bother to play in alpha?

Everybody want's the game to be a successful game. I might argue some of us more than others but that's irrelevant to the point. This game checks off all the boxes for a game I want. It IS a niche game, they devs have said it multiple times in videos and posts that not everybody will like Cf and they aren't making a game for the masses. They have a long road ahead of them. They have to make winning mean something but mitigate losing so people continue to play after they have lost everything. That's not going to be easy. Changing the game to be something it's not though is a bad solution too. CF is a group siege game where logistics, military might, economics, subterfuge and politics all way in. If you can't win one way, I suggest you find another way to win. If none of those appeal to you then, and I hate saying it 5 times a day, maybe Cf isn't for you. Factions will be less extreme, the dregs is going to be a poorly made socks show of human betrayal and shenanigans; I can't wait. Crafting will be come less extreme as the game grows and they expand on systems (crafting is still in its 1st version). Harvesting has already been dialed down and I expect more. NPE will eventually be added. The systems people want are coming but they aren't going to be here tomorrow or the day after.

Is in gaming spying an exploit?

As long as it applied to everyone, and was an impersonal mechanic, I would have no problem with it. For example, if the gate area acted like the starvation effect of being close to a hunger shard in the new player zone, and fatal starvation was possible, then it would apply to all without all that "he said, she said" nonsense. But those types of mechanics are very very hard to design without negatively changing the very nature of factions, that you are safe from other players in your faction hurting you, and almost certainly a poor use for developer time because of the cat/mouse nature of the whole process. Much better to just get the Dregs finished, (still planned before release), and let people use that option. I bet you won't see much of this type of spying in the faction campaigns once dregs open up anyway, simply because those dedicated enough to have multiple accounts, will be those dedicated enough to play them and keep away from the factions for the most part.

Games die from game-breaking bugs, the developers forcing changes that fix things that aren't broken, and excessive cash grabs. They don't die from being niche. It was stated from the beginning this would be a niche game. So not sure why people keep saying that like it's a negative. Wow was an outlier in the extreme. And their numbers are no where near the game of yesteryear. We backed this game specifically to not have a wow clone beholdened to CFOs and development that is about money and not being a good game.

Is in gaming spying an exploit?

Starting a new thread for this? I am not going to copy paste. You either have confused me for someone else, or didn't read what I wrote. I, and others in the feedback thread, specifically consider parking spy/camera alts by the gates where they can't be killed an exploit of the new player protections. I asked them to remove the runegate shield, so that spies can be countered by the community. I also pointed out that if they wanted to ban multiaccounting due to community feedback, that's their right. Just the act of spying using alt accounts is unsporting, but not an exploit imo. I even said ACE has essentially endorsed it, so spy away. On the TOS, there are limits to what is acceptable. It is ACE's descretion. For example, impersonating another player is expressly forbidden. Another poster pointed out that you are refering to the Rules of Conduct, not the TOS. At a second glance, spying isn't endorsed their either, but other shenanigans are. I have said my piece on the subject, and don't care too much if they leave it as is.

Why should i bother to play in alpha?

That was your mistake. Don't come in with unrealistic expectations and you're less likely to be disappointed. You're testing an MMORPG, not a matchmaking and instanced PVP game. You're on a pre-alpha test build, not an early-access game. If you understand those key concepts, I think you'll be better positioned to enjoy what currently exists and to provide more valuable feedback.

    Resource material upgrade

Ya, exactly. My hope is that's "The Plan" for bulk white resources, and it appears likely. With that I think an "upgrade" system to turn white mats into better quality mats at some ratio becomes not only unnecessary but undesirable, given all of the subsequent problems it would spawn.

double hit is just visual combat log bug. it does not hit twice on life in 5,8. test server 5.8.1 have this issue fixed duelist have a lack of mobility to be honest and only 1 decent spender for range and 1 for melee. this is why almost all stealthers is assassins coz they have wear scale, have dots, have fly, have double jump and longest easiest escapes and alot more. diffusion have almost the same numbers (well, diffusion is x1.3-1.5 less numbers). duelist's ambush have even less damage as I know. so I think in 5.8.1 with fixed strange scaling damage depended on HP miss at least duelist will be good balanced. can't say the same for assassins. I tried both so I think I can have an opinion

You can't really "test the waters" of a guild based game without a guild. You can test the mechanics (combat, crafting, gathering, training, etc) and we can currently do that. Yes they need a better new player experience and that is planned as far as I know. Be it videos, in-game tutorial, and whatever hand holding is necessary for the basics to sink in for new people. Problem is they have an unfinished game with missing features, broken builds, and few people. None of which I hope represents the finished product. Without wasting a bunch of resources making a few more welcome to test, don''t see them doing much now. When the simple solution already exists, be social in a social game. If someone is truly interested in spending more then a fleeting moment in a alpha/beta for such a product, they need to put their big kid pants on and figure it out. At this point there seems to be just as many new and old fans so it must not be impossible to come in now and figure it out. My hope is we see Newbie Campaigns where there are larger safe zones, maybe free gear, no imports/exports, and some sort of restrictions in place so that new players have a chance to not only dip their toes but wade on in without fear of some meanie vet spoiling their fun (cause they love to). Also with Dregs eventually coming online, this might separate the more organized from those more suited for Factions. Log in and have potentially hundreds of friends. Still requires people to be social and not attempt to play it like every other MMO that is really just a single player game that has others in it. My guess is EVE in "pre-alpha" wasn't the same game at launch nor today. These things time take. Despite some wanting to experience it, clearly it isn't for them just yet.

    a Revision to Game Play.

You missed my wink... Why not do the same for everything in the game? Just toss out the entire class system and let us have 100% control of our characters. Great idea, wrong game/design. Your issue seems to stem from the somewhat broken nature of stealth classes or probably more so specific players/builds. Which are the result of an unfinished game with only a handful of people in it. Stealth isn't OP just because it's Stealth. Also, they aren't or hopefully don't balance around 1v1. Look at Templar for example. They seem pretty great for team play, especially with POIs. Not so much solo. Compared to an Assassin that if balanced right, shouldn't be able to easily walk into a group of 20-50 players without being detected a mile away. You have to step back and look at the game as a social experience, not tunnel down to only a specific situation. You mention making hard choices and that makes for a good PVP game (I agree), so why isn't choosing XYZ build that is currently available not a hard choice? You can play a particular class/race/discipline build along with using specific powers and simply having more people with you. Along with having proper gear, situational awareness and so on. Putting all that together takes effort/skill/time and likely hard choices. Maybe Joe Champion doesn't want to run an Anti-Stealth Discipline but his guildmates need him to watch their backs while they harvest. That's a hard choice (not really if you have good friends). I have no doubt that organized guild in pre-alpha are running specific team builds for this exact reason. I totally get what you are suggesting and in a different game it might work wonderfully, but not Crowfall. If stealth/anti-stealth were up for grabs, they would cancel each other out and make it pointless, more so than it already might be with what's been shown/talked about so far. If an Assassin can't stealth in, kind of defeats the purpose of playing one. This is where devs get creative and add in "Deep Shadows" and allow stealthers to bypass all anti-stealth. But it costs a Major Discipline or whatever and is on a 5 min cooldown. Start making "hard" choices. Which they will as redesigning core systems at this point based on a random person's suggestions isn't likely. Although they do surprise. I'm not totally sold on the leveling/talent system, but it is better than the passive system(s) they tried. Some of what I wanted changed is now part of character building, despite plenty of vocal folks saying what they had was great and didn't need to be changed. Devs apparently figure things out eventually. Stealth and such mechanics seem to swing back and forth from OP to meh across all games. Someone gets ganked, devs nerf, stealthers compain, devs buff them, repeat. As is, they seem to understand and it's great they already have anti-stealth in and more planned (Tracking?). Balancing it out will be tricky and that's why I'm not a game dev. What it comes down to is what you believe is "Good PVP" might differ from the devs and fans of what they are making. Crowfall is far from my perfect game, but it hopefully does enough well that I can enjoy it. If not, I back all these games

Why should i bother to play in alpha?

To be honest, with everything I had read before I backed the game, I really was expecting something more along the lines of a Mincraft/DAoC type hybrid, something akin to a game like Trove™ going Realms vs Realms, with the idea of non-static/randomized campaign worlds, endless options for world building and exploration as well as being able to teraform the landscape, a fully destructible yet RvR centered world that were on time frames till they died away and we needed to start the battles anew, but, you know, with less voxel style graphics. That was what I was expecting from the videos and advertisements I saw.. apparently.. that is not the case.

Bottom line answer to "why should I bother to play in alpha?" is to test, give feeback, and help make the game better. If you get frustrated with the current build for whatever reason, post your feedback in a constructive manner and then take a break until the next build to see what's been changed.

You may not want em, but I'm pretty sure there will be a desire for EK lego once ACE stop wiping items. It's so much work now that is just going to get wiped, and ACE has given out some spiffy test buildings, so nobody is really messing with that side of things yet.

Why should i bother to play in alpha?

Squarl you are absolutely correct. But you posting on here is just going to get you flamed by 90% of the left-overs. You see, these people still playing ARE crafters or fabois. You are right to be worried about the #'s as you should be. (I know the devs are, they are running a BUSINESS) When you have STEAM releasing ALPHA games that have MORE players than this game does....there's an issue. The game has non-stop potential, unfortunately the direction its been heading is WAAAAAYYY off mark from the nostalgia backers who originally purchased this game/dream. If you notice its the SAME few defenders on these forums trying everything they can to make you feel like "YOU" are the issue. Its not, its the game. In business you look at #'s. period. This game is already released all over youtube and its not looking promising to the vast majority of PvPers. IMO to fix this... 1. Run the test server as a giant tool-box and let players run around maxing their characters instantly, throw in a battle-royal 24/7 with a tight map with toys/weapons lying everywhere. Populate mobs and constantly just have exploits and break everything. Let players come up with insane character builds racially/stat/discipline wise. Balance from here. 2. STOP THE CRAFTING. It needs to be stopped and full swing needs to be pushed towards combat/sieges/maps/npc/mobs. This game already has the most insane farming/crafting simulation out of any MMO since MUDS. Enough is enough for now. 3. Constant wipes are killing the player-base. The vessels are just another hash-re-hash way of forcing more grinding/leveling. Complete a campaign..give the player a REASON to keep playing. This isn't working. Let us keep our characters with REWARDS on them so we keep going. I loved Shadowbane. I loved DAOC. I loved UO...but right now this is not what me, my friends, or the MAJORITY of backers thought they were buying into. my 2 cents, watch yourself on here...the fanbois will eat you alive. Lifting my glass to the devs/Todd in hoping he turns this game into the masterpiece it could be. Wrain

Of course it's going to happen when you roll into while two groups are already engaged I am fighting to win, of course I'm going to break the greatest threat on the field by any means necessary. This is an unspoken rule in any fight. I'll disengage my group to flank the larger force and force them to fight on two sides. Thats not a secret alliance or making deals with people in whispers, thats common sense and reacting to a degrading situation. It happens to all of us, like tonight at Tol Vendis while we were picking on Balance. You guys waited for us to breach and piled in behind to kill both factions, and a well played to you!

It's the new crafting UI. They showed it off in an article or video, I don't remember exactly when. They were hoping to get it into 5.8, but it didn't make it. Basically, instead of having separate recipes for every subcomponent and having to switch around between them, you would have a recipe for a Mace, and the recipe would take you through all the steps, including the subcomponents, until you get to the finished product. If I can find where they talked about it, I'll link it.

    Volunteer Moderators Wanted

We are looking for a few good men (and women!) to help keep topics topical, trolls wrangled and conversations detoxified. Volunteer moderators do not gain any special advantage, x-ray vision or superpowers. There is no compensation given – no early access to testing, no pledge package upgrades, no free cookies and milk. The ‘tour of duty’ will last for three months, after which you may apply to rejoin the group after a 90-day break. (We feel that limiting the term will help prevent burn-out as well as giving more people the opportunity to participate as moderators if they want to give it a try.) Members of the Volunteer Moderator Team are considered ambassadors-at-large for ArtCraft Entertainment and the Crowfall community. As such, they are expected to conduct themselves accordingly. This does not mean they have to agree with everything that’s said on the forums, including posts from official ACE staff, but that even when disagreeing they do so with courtesy and respect. Argumentative, discordant behavior is not acceptable. Must-haves: · Must be at least 18 years of age · Must have been a member of the forum for at least 30 days · Must have a post count of at least 150 · Must have a “clean record” on the forum: no warning points, suspensions or bans within the last 90 days If you would like to throw your hat into the ring, please answer the questions below in an email to support@artcraftent.com using the subject line: Vol mod application [your forum name]. Real name Forum handle Email address Date of birth City, State (if applicable), Country Primary language Secondary language What qualities do you possess that you feel will help you be a good volunteer moderator? Due to the volume of applications we anticipate, only those who are selected for further consideration will be contacted. Frequently Asked Questions 1) What is the time commitment? We don't have scheduled times. All we ask is that volunteers remain reasonably active and let us know if they are going to be off the grid for more than a few days. If someone is inactive about a week with no contact, we will consider that a resignation and deactivate the volunteer account. 2) How much leeway are mods given? For example, do I use my best judgment for giving up to the first three warning points on an account, but if the user would be on his fourth or higher point would I need to turn it over to a senior mod or you? When in doubt, mods will bounce around a situation among themselves and or with me in the Slack channel. In cases that are really deep in the gray, we try to lean on the side of the poster and give them a warning rather than a warning point. And, users always have the option of sending in a Support ticket if they feel they were given a warning or warning point in error. 3) What kind of infrastructure do you have in place to support the mod team? There is a private forum area and a Slack channel. To date, that's worked well for us.

Is in gaming spying an exploit?

Given your forum pic choice clearly not sensitive enough, it seems. As for the topic, we could remove fog of war from the gates. Rather than try and deny the advantage, lean into it and give everyone the advantage. That would make parking an alt at a gate meaningless, might drive activity out into the world, and not give that particular advantage to folks who have a bunch of money to throw around for this absurd reason.
