    [Order] Down, But Not Out

I know on Order (and on Chaos, I assume), there are a lot of people who've already given up on this Trials campaign. I've read the forum posts, and heard the lack of enthusiasm in some of your voices when suggesting we go pick a fight with Balance, or even dare to see about putting pressure on a keep. We can post ad nauseam about the variety of deficiencies and disparities that may or may not exist, though this does not help us, but to harm us. It poisons our fighting spirit and digital bloodlust. It saps our willingness to try new things, to think asymmetrically, and to work with what we have, instead of what we have not. I'd like to introduce a little less doom and gloom, and a little more excitement. First, I'd like to show all of you on Order, who didn't log in for the first siege night on Trials, just what you missed out on. It's easily one of the most fun battles I've had in this game, and even though we lost the keep, I don't think anyone there left with nothing less than a smile. This is not any form of self-promotion, but one of sharing a cool moment in a game we all love (sometimes to hate). Before anyone gets mad, the opening gag is rather quite self-aware and tongue-in-cheek, but going by the forum posts, I figured I'd better just say so than assume everyone gets the bit. For those of you who aren't keen to video watching, I'll give this a brief breakdown: We used mass ballistae (now the patented ZombieGandhi's Ballista On Every Tower strategy) as a way of showing up any potential overwhelming numbers--we didn't know if all of Balance would show, or a few. We held choke points--sometimes not as well as we should have--in combination of the ballista: the ballista were the hammer, and we the anvil. We even used the ballista healing bolts to heal the Tree of Life (as well as set fire to people in the tree room). Squishy players (leather, ranged, naked, under-leveled) took up a ballista, as for now, they take no damage. A level one fresh vessel could have set fire to dozens at a time. Now using defensive siege weaponry isn't an IQ200 level play, but at the moment, this is only the second time I've ever seen it used, and the first time to adopt my own patented strategy (which will cost you a pinecone to use). This is asymmetrical strategic thinking, and it did us extremely well--far better than I had expected. Lesser guests to our keep would not have done so well--a testament to willingness to fight. This long-winded post is meant to try and convey a few things: 1.) We may be down, but we're only out, unless we say we're out (Chaos and Balance does not decide that, we do. No excuses. Stop. I know you're thinking of one now). 2.) Asymmetrical combat is our friend. Experiment, get freaky, find the weakness of your opponent and exploit it, and don't let them exploit yours. 3.) Have some goddamn fun. This is a video game. If you're not logging in with some measure of excitement, you're doing it wrong. To further promote some hopeful unity, I would like to extend a hand, so to speak. Transcendence (TRA, that's me/us) is already starting to work with Infernal. Order may be low population, but I see there's other guilds putting points on the board. I hope you're reading these forums, and this thread, as if you are, I hope you'll reach out. Let's work together to see what we might accomplish. Fight by our rules, not theirs. If you'd like to contact TRA, I invite you to message me in game, or here, Discord, or wherever. Or if you'd prefer to talk with someone far more pleasant than myself, there is also Nueby. I cannot speak for other Order guilds, or even Chaos guilds, but if you're feeling in the down-and-out brigade, and seek to use this post as a manner of connection, then by all means, please do. The more people working together, the better the fights for everyone will be. All I can say, and speak for, is that Transcendence--whatever our numbers may be--won't be backing down. We'll take the fights, we're looking forward to thinking asymmetrically, and we'll be on this digital battlefield. We hope to see you all out there too, whether you're fighting with us, or against us. edit 'cause I words like Blair maths edit two, 'cause I REALLY words like Blair maths

NA - Day 3 - Trial of Malekai

Tark's Journal Day 3: As I lean behind a boulder surrounded on all sides, I grow tired of battling the evil balance board warriors. Feeling a weakness in my knees I collapse, I fall to the ground and ask myself, "How did it come to this?". I fade in and out of consciousness and wonder to myself, "why is this custard boulder I'm leaning up against only a rank 2?" I hear a faint voice in my head that sounds like Dolmar telling me to pick myself up off the ground. Feeling the warrior spirit within I pull myself to my feet, legs shaking but resolved to continue battle. I heard the voice again, "Tark pull out your pickaxe and hit that node". With all my might I swing my mighty pickaxe, "damn, it broke". The enemy starts to close in on all sides, "Is this really the end?" My thoughts dwell on my wife as I start to reminisce when we were last in warm embrace before kickstarter. Knowing the end is near, I feel the spirit of @dolmar putting both his hands upon the back of my broad shoulders, a thrust of life fills me inside and I feel alive once again. Dolmar whispers in my ear, "Tark, need dem purps bruh". Dolmar slaps the 8 key on my keyboard and I am recalled back to the temple. Tired and beleaguered I feel myself starting to detach from this world as I prepare to enter another. I'm going to see Quartermaster Shiner in the Shiner Kingdom. I close my eyes and I see combinations, I've seen these before and I feel comfort. My spirit starts to lift off the ground as I watch my body disappear away from this cold world. My senses start tingling and I'm right back where I started, a level 1 noob in the starting zone. I say to myself "damn, how am I going to tell dolmar I deleted another body". I log off crowfall to go cry and stuff my face with burritos while watching pornhub. I'm dead inside.

    Is this forum a joke?

As a Chaos player since day one, I will say: "We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds,we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender." Even if there are only 2 of us. I don't support a restart, I won't cry off.

Huge HP gains do not come from the player's vessel, they come from wearing well crafted plate armor. Massive damage numbers also do not come from your vessel, they come from good class & discipline selection and a well crafted weapon. As others have said, upgrades to your vessel are nice, but choosing a class and disciplines that are on top of the current meta, getting good gear, and learning to play that build well with a strong team is FAR more important than upgrading your vessel.

    [Order] Down, But Not Out

Well put. No excuses in this thread. We fought the good fight and had a blast doing it. HUGE shout out to the leaders and strategists for this endeavor for the battle plan and the execution. HUGE shout out to everyone that showed up. We stayed focused and followed directions to the bitter end. HUGE shout out to Balance. Love them, hate them, or somewhere in between, Monday night was a good and earned victory. The fact that we held for 40 minutes made it look like we were going to weather the assault, which put a little sting in the loss, but that's life. We can, and probably will, debate a lot of silly stuff over the next 12 days. You could have massed into one battle group with as many Balance that could have filled to the zone cap and took our keep in 10 minutes with plenty of time to move on to Chaos , but to your credit, you didn't.

Silly Rabbit, games die after an actual launch,.not when testing mechanics in a pre-alpha state. Get a grip... faction play won't be the primary game. Class balance will be done in Beta after all classes (Frostweaver) have been added. How can you possibly complain like this during testing, are you that ignorant of game development? Crowfall® has not yet launched and is currently in pre-alpha testing. The game is still in development with new skills, features, and content coming online regularly. Are your expectations that content and mechanics are magically working, balanced and bug free when added? really?

Please update the Block tooltip to indicate that it increases Personal Damage Modifier cap by 25. As listed in the character sheet, the Personal Damage Modifier cap is 50%. However, when Block is active, this cap goes up to 75%, as you can see here: This is the result of Block (50%) + Unbreakable talent (10%) + Block Bonus from Constitution (15.6%). I tested this with and without the Unbreakable talent to ensure that it is working correctly. I also tested it with and without the Glass Cannon passive. It all seems to be working correctly, but it needs to be made more clear that Block increases the Personal Damage Modifier cap. I was only able to capture this by recording myself blocking and then quickly opening the character sheet before the number changed. We also need much, much more clarity on barriers. Many barriers do not indicate how much damage they absorb, and there is no way to tell how much a barrier has already absorbed or how much of the barrier is left at any given time. Please gives us fly text and/or entries in the combat log that show how much damage was absorbed by the barrier. And speaking of barriers, there is an issue related to overlapping barriers: As you can see in this video, I use Whirling Leap, then use Noble Blood. I am getting damaged even though I am "Shielded" by the Noble Blood barrier. My guess is that when the barrier from the ultimate ends, it stops all active barriers. Either that, or the Noble Blood barrier is never activating because there is a stronger barrier already active. This all needs to be clarified as well, as to how it is intended to work. Some passives give random barriers, so it will be very difficult to manage if we can only have one barrier actually active at a time.

Both enemy factions could easily outnumber Balance right now. In fact, Chaos outnumbered Balance the first two nights of this campaign. I agree though, the inability to attack whoever you want is a big part of why Faction campaigns will never be as good as the Dregs. But if you think the Dregs will solve the problem where people are crying rivers about imbalanced forces, you are mistaken.

    Leveling sucks, how to fix

Leveling in crowfall is awful, it feels awful, it looks awful, and its purpose is awful. We need to have combat/gathering/crafting ranks in the game to give people something to work towards, and move faction pop around more equally, my team for one would willingly drop the top dog rn for more pvp if there was a point to it besides a badge. It can look something like this Combat R1: +1% nature defense CR2: +1% elemental defense CR3: +1% physical defense Gathering R1: +1 damage to all nodes GR2: +1% crit hit chance GR2: +1% crit damage Crafting R1: +1% assembly chance CR2: +1% experimentation chance CR3: +1% salvage chance And if we're feeling frisky, guild ranks in some form You can still have the sac system in place since its a core part of current leveling, just replace random items with skulls, raw mats, and crafted goods for their respective lines. You can even distinguish the strong guilds from the weaker/newer ones with gated faction and dreg campaigns, say your guild has to be under level 10 to participate in this faction campaign or over level 50 to participate in this 1 week long dreg campaign with 10,000 combat xp for the winners. I want something to work towards, and i want what i actively do to give me some bonus, if i kill 1000 players i should inherently be better at it, if i gather 100 graves i should be better at it, if i craft 30 plate chest pieces i should be better at it. This makes your old green chestplate with 1 dura valuable, your stacks of unwanted green ore from when you gathered blues, and your stacks of noob gatherer skulls worthwhile taking, can even have the skulls of high ranked players on the leaderboards be worth more to make the newer players wanna chase down powerful enemies. Its a pvp game, dont let pirate101 have a better leveling system than you.

What we know: ACE instated some small-time rewards for testers in these campaigns to help draw crowds for testing. They want more bodies for whatever reason (it's their prerogative, it's their game and data is what allows them to make judgment calls on everything). They offered something in good intentions to give the masses something to fight for, because one day, every campaign WILL have rewards and the fact that there is no reward prior, means they have something missing from their formula. They attempted to fill that void with something that was both easy for them to implement and desirable for players. What happened: A minority of the player base took the path of least resistance and ruined a campaign for two weeks, not recognizing intentions of ACE. OR maybe they did, and didn't care, because gold stickers. Your argument is sound if, and only if, it is assumed that the Crowfall backers/community/whatever are a bunch of (for lack of a better phrase) greedy children by default, because then you can state that "ACE should have known better omg". I for one am not a greedy child, don't want to be rolled into a crowd that is, and don't appreciate this mindset growing wings for that reason. Condemn the players that flipped, guilds or individuals, make your pick. But don't prescribe ACE as an entity that should be disappointed about being anything other than omniscient, that's how you, as a player, encourage them to make decisions that don't include you. I have a brain, I would prefer that ACE continues to treat the community as if it too has a brain (most of the time). Otherwise, well, "don't we all have phones?"

    State of PvP

Risk vs Reward. The game is far from finished and doesn't exist. We have one campaign type with one rough draft version of a ruleset. Beyond them having a lot hidden away in the studio, I don't see much need to redo anything. They actually need to make it and do it well. Albion Online is fairly similar in many ways and I wouldn't mind them taking some inspiration from them, however, it also had/has major issues that likely still persist (haven't played in a while). They too have ways to "win" be it small or large scale matches that impact land control which influences resources and all that comes with it. Simply having Campaigns go poof doesn't remove Uncle Bob. Snowballing seems a live and well. A player driven economy and vertical power system is hard to balance but hopefully they manage to make the power curve shallow while still rewarding players for harvesting/crafting and putting in effort supplying themselves. Reaching X tier shouldn't heavily sway things too much where active combat skill is a non factor, especially if vessels/gear can't be looted. When it comes to zergs, cross faction play, or whatever number advantage, I see no counter. If it's just swarm or be swarmed (if the servers don't melt), that's what people will do. Until only the strong survive and find themselves occupying one server holding each others hands in a circle singing. Or likely off to play the next thing like usual. Dregs and low/no import is a solution but we've yet to see how they plan to do that and again the faction issues apply there just without the pre-made teams. Win trading incoming. People already gave up day 1 of a pre-alpha over a gold badge. If that happens at launch, the game is over. There are things they could do such as not rewarding players taking unguarded POIs. Give the team with the most camps captured a +10% harvest bonus in that zone. Let siege and actual PVP or two+ sided events run the scoreboard. Albion has leaderboards for crafting, harvesting, solo/small/large scale PVP, etc. All of which ACE could do and reward players for the time/effort across multiple ways of playing. They are far from release and this thing is far from finished. My hope is what we have is the get something out the door to keep people occupied and not what they envision the game being like.

Blame the players/guilds that did it, not ACE. I think it's safe to say that ACE VASTLY overestimated the maturity of the community by giving us a carrot in the first place. "This is why we can't have nice things." The important part about this is that the community just encouraged ACE to treat the all of us like children who want candy from now on due to the actions of a minority. Coach is making the majority run laps now because the prima donnas thought they'd be cute this campaign. But who cares, gold stickers, right?

The way this world is playing out, the Silver reward is going to be more of a badge of honor than the Gold. Gold = I joined the zerg. Silver = I fought the good fight as an underdog. Win or lose, I know what one I would want to sport. I personally would be embarrassed to show off a "zerg certified" badge.

    Cleric builds

So I’ve had a few people PM me and ask about Cleric builds, instead of typing the same reply a few times I figured I’d post it. Race: Human is prob the default best race. The extra passive and bar slots are excellent allowing more diversity with minor runes. The .03% less incoming damage is nice too since it’s in the same group as block or sturdy and not actually “armor”. Once cloak is added I suspect human will be the best by a large margin. Dwarf is second with the higher base Spirit, con and passive giving you 5% more healing every knockdown. Cent and HG are equally at the bottom imo (with the nerf to iframes). Major Disc: I run field surgeon on every cleric. Purgative removes dots and becomes a decent sized heal when even removing two hots. Rescue is an almost required ability but requires skill to use and has a long cd. Noble Purpose makes mana management a joke. The rune gives 6.5% healing mod. The only “eh” thing is the rehabilitation heal and it’s really not even bad it’s just not redicilous like everything else. For a second major I like Pixie or Rune caster, as preventing damage can be just as good as healing through it. Militant Mage/Scarecrow/Firewalker all can be used if you know people will be heavy on them. Minors: If running Human and I have access to a jewelcrafter Expansive Mind/Hand of Glory/Overhelming Odds. If human and no JC Expansive Mind/Sturdy/Overhelming Odds. If running dwarf I’ll run expansive mind/demons pact/overwhelming odds. Passives: Crusader, Noble Purpose, OW and sturdy if you have it or the Cleric -% crit chance Note: if you can sneak it in Bc you’re not being targeted you can use your mail chest piece and leather boots, helm and gloves. Your chest piece determines all your resists and you can sneak the extra healing mod on leather off pieces if you don’t need the health. It’s risky and people see you’re wearing leather you will get called out and smashed. Miracle is an absolute power house heal. You can use it as an o poorly made socks button to heal the party and you can use it save yourself. Use it wisely as building spirit power custard sucks.

This is false... stats do quite little in the grand scheme of things. I'm in top 5 of current leader boards for US total, and I can tell you, if you're worrying about a vessel now, and haven't even geared, you're doing yourself a disservice. A vessel won't make you a 'god-king murder monster' or even marginally OP.... gear will, time spent learning the class will, and mastering movement mechanics all will get you there, far more so than a vessel. *Edit - Damebix is 100% correct btw, a guild will help get you there. That's your biggest advantage. New or old, you need one.

I think you got too used to the "nothing matters" pre-alpha state of affairs with one major guild in each of the 3 factions to balance pvp out (until UDL kinda left, I guess, which left a vacuum in Chaos). Get used to to the mega zerg uncle bob scenario, this is how the game is likely to be played unless ACE can think of MUCH better scoring systems and gameplay mechanics. This is how EVE is played and apparently this is how Shadowbane used to be played as well. The two games CF is modeling itself after. The fact that the combat system is 90% reliant on build/knowledge with an abysmally low skill ceiling and a scoring mechanic that is about how many no-life bodies you can throw at braindead objectives 24/7 don't help much either.

NA - First Sieges - The Gears of War

I hate to be something of a voice of reason, but I will try. I think Soulein/Balance made the exact right play--regarding the Order keep defense. They pushed, we plugged the initial gap and rained ballistae fire upon them. They regrouped, attacked from another angle, that too was pushed back. Second attack, they brought more, as with so much ballistae fire, you have to overwhelm the AoE damage (some will die, but some will survive). That second one was turned away, but with more difficulty. The third attack, with more reinforcements (again, see why this is important in the second attack recap), and our own loss of players (which is why at the end, the disparity between Order and Balance in the tree room seems what it was), was able to overwhelm, out-heal/mitigate any ballista damage (not to mention player damage). We knew they weren't going to turn tail and run away the first time they were pushed back. Our goal was to defend our keep to the very last man (or woman, if you believe video evidence that suggests Nueby was the last to fall), and to make Balance earn every inch they took. I think we did that. I'm happy with that fight. To suggest that Soulein won't fight an even fight I think is somewhat unfair, though I admit my own argument against is anecdotal. HoA fought us evenly at the keep. HoA/Balance made the only rational decision to make, especially given the timer they were on--mass numbers and swarm. Nothing wrong with that. Tonight HoA fought Transcendence and Infernal in a pretty even numbers fight (might have even been 1:1). The second scrap had more than HoA in it, and we were rather overwhelmed, but that's not a negation of the prior fight. I don't know where I'm going with any of this. Let's all try and put the same level of energy into the actual game of Crowfall, instead of the meta-game of Crowfall Forums, which I do realize, is the meta behind the meta, which is behind the meta.

    Giving Outposts Area Wide Buffs

Right now taking and holding outposts is very lackluster. It's boring and usually something people dread doing primarily because there's no reason to grab them other than "points". - If you're a PvPer and you're not in the race to win then there's no point in even bothering with them. - For harvesters they don't get any benefit whatsoever. If you guys gave something like a 5% damage buff for having a nearby Outpost and an extra plentiful harvesting point and extra harvesting critical chance it would really incentivize people to want to grab them for reasons outside of points. - It would add some tactics to taking points on the map. Maybe you want to grab the 2 nearby outposts for a 10% damage buff before trying to take a fort. If you're planning on doing a motherload run you'd want to grab nearby objectives first for the buffs and a fallback point. Overlapping buffs might be too much but maybe there could be a limit to how many stacks you could have. @jtoddcoleman@Tyrant@thomasblair

    State of PvP

Having played Albion in beta and at launch, it wasn't surprising to see things go the way they did. The first couple days with guilds basically zerging/buying their way to own everything and continue to dominate was silly (was part of one such guild). Devs tried to please PVE and smaller groups/soloers but it wasn't a cohesive package that worked, but a bunch of bandaids on top of a good concept. I don't see Crowfall going in a much different direction unfortunately. Some fans believe it will work itself out over time, but beyond wishful thinking, there is no evidence of that. I hope ACE has some ideas that they can actually implement properly prior to launch, but I have no clue what they are doing. They mentioned Alpha (feature complete to some degree) happening end of last Summer... Don't believe they should be too focused on individual or large group experiences currently. They need to finish the major systems. Wasting time balancing and fine tuning little things to make a couple hundred testers happy is a waste. However, I don't believe they should offer launch rewards with the current state of things either. If they don't see soloing as a realistic way to play even in factions, that should be spelled out on the site so people don't waste their time. IMO, soloing shouldn't be a focus. This should be a social game and experience. Doesn't mean people can't play a lone or in small groups, but they should need to be part of a larger entity to progress and do anything worthwhile. Joe 1 hour a day or 4 hours a week shouldn't be the target audience, doesn't mean he can't still have a good time within his limitations.

We are geared and set up but running only a small group of actives... my choice was in who we want to fight. We've been fighting against W and HoA more than any others for ages now and the appeal of doing our own thing without facing a lag infested hoard had it's appeal. Nothing to do with the trinket really. More to do with putting us in a position to fight again by ourselves in smaller scale engagements. The sieges will not be a contest whether we are there or not. Yes, I chose to punt this campaign... there will be more.

    Fabulous Start

They should make it so winning faction the top 50 players get it 2nd place top 30 and 3rd place top 10 or something that way the zerg faction has more competition for the reward where low pop faction has less number would be based on total players in that campaign

    Issues logging into forum

We've just upgraded the forum software so I'm hoping this issue won't happen anymore; however, if it does, the best thing is to go to the main webpage (crowfall.com). If you are logged in, log out. If you are logged out, log in and out and in again. (I know, it's a pain. I'm sorry!) You should be able to get to the forums then. Lemme know if that doesn't work for you.

Yes, the Dregs do solve problems that Factions create. But the Faction campaigns have a purpose. They are not a "failed experiment" just because the Dregs will be better. They are there to provide an option for new players who don't have a guild, aren't ready to join a guild, or don't want to join a guild. They will help to get a wider audience of players into the game. You don't want to play Factions, I don't want to play Factions, and many other people don't want to play Factions. That doesn't mean they are a "failed experiment" or don't have a role to play in Crowfall.

I may disagree with the level you take the competition of a game to, but I do respect that you are able to openly acknowledge your position, and that it may be an outlier position. Myself, I want to be a strong competitor, I want my team/guild/corp/whatever to be a strong competitor, but I find victory over an openly inferior adversary to be hollow and unsatisfying.
