Game not what it should be

Crowfall was promised as a play to crush throne war simulator, and while its certainly play to crush (with pure numbers and extreme gear difference) and it is a simulator (circle simulator) it needs to be much better on a lot of fronts. Farming in this game sucks, you need a ton of mats, strong tools, a lot of time, and complete dependence on others for higher tier mats from other professions unless youve bought several accounts, and even then unless you have several farmer crafters behind you you'll still be behind, farming dust is a pain, farming embers is even more of a pain, and little things like skinning getting reduced drops at night, and lack of much needed mob types, all add up to an extremely unpleasurable experience for the entirety of the gearing session. Even after getting all the mats, rounding up various crafters to craft it, you will still have a chance to have it all wasted with a chance to fail on assembly regardless of skill, for my most recent set of gear 2 of my gauntlets were flawed from blue to green with a 98% to not fail. Even after working overtime to farm mats, beating your way through rng crafting, you can finally pvp, oh wait no you cant, not alone at least, youve now gotta get a couple of geared friends to stand a chance, congrats! back to farming for you buddy boy. Ok now that you are geared, your friends are geared, and you got your discs set up you can go finally pvp. Or not.... you can now stand in circles for several hours. After awhile of circle standing you finally meet someone, oh wait oh god he isnt alone, he has 12 other dudes with him, you and your 4 buddies never stood a chance, you cant run because your mount moves about as slow as your thought process before your morning coffee, you cant fight them because there's just too many, you cant focus them because this combat system is complete trash you accidentally hit the templar once and he knocked down your entire team, and with a movement and combat system like this you cant kite them and spread them out without malekai himself descending from the heavens and personally blinding half of them. Ok so you died now you get to respawn super far away because you didnt own a fort and now have to fly for 5 minutes or break your armor, then you get to sit around for 3 minutes on shroud and hope no one comes by. Now that you've ressed you can go look for an even fight, your teammates logged for the night because the crow flying made them die inside, after finding 1 person you get into a fight with them, turns out the gear you crafted wasnt enough, youre fighting a champion, you get him down to 1% health 40 times but he just heals right back up and kills you because you didnt decide to run plague lord that day. Ok after respawning, flying, and waiting, you meet someone else of the same class, another myrmidon! finally a fair fight, or so you thought, you manage your crashes perfectly and even manage to break his, but unlike you his gear is a tier higher, he has more health because health is related to armor for some ungodly reason, and his 2 axes named noob slayer and carried by my guild do more damage because he exploited with wooden boards, and now youre dead again, back to flying, back to waiting, back to hating the cycle. Before this game is ready it needs a lot of changes, allow me to list a few below REDUCE THE PVE GRIND FOR THIS PRIMARILY PVP GAME, increase drop rates on leather, wood, and higher colored items, along with dust and embers. MAKE THE GAME ACTUALLY SKILLFUL WITH BUILDS AND OVERALL COMBAT, introduce armor and weapon sets like eso's, it allows for a lot of customization and unique builds allowing your min max to be more then just a good hunger shard (which needs some serious rng buffs) REPLACE THE KEEPS AND FORTS WITH SOMETHING BETTER, AND MORE DEFENDABLE, keep sieges are only passably acceptable atm because its the only time you will be 100% assured you wont have to just circle stand, the keeps are small, and undefendable with its layout allowing for holes everywhere. forts themselves are too easily capped, went with my druid and hacked my way into several forts earlier, chopping through the stone foundation and thick wooden walls, we didnt cap it super quick because theres just 2 of us, but more would have capped that fort with 0 warning in under 3 minutes, make forts stronger, harder to take, and have more warning. THE NERF SLEDGEHAMMER, for the love of the all father, stop nerfing classes with just the sledge hammer of doom, tweak the classes dont destroy them like fessor, when the pitfighter nerf comes please dont make it worthless TLDR: farming sucks, crafting sucks, pvp sucks, combat and movement system sucks, still better then wizard101

    Item Wipe

I agree with PAINDOTCOM, an item wipe is necessary. For the sake of clarity, I believe it is important to details the effects of current bugs: - There is a beneficial harvest bug that allows you to have 100% chance to trigger the effect, at 500%+ power. In effect, you have a permanent massive stamina regen, speed buff, and 75% chances to do a critical harvest with up to 5 extra items per node. Using this bug greatly improve your speed to gather blue/purple/gold. - There is a crafting bug that allows you to get ~20 damages on weapons. A weapon that goes from 80-100 to 100-120 is a direct +25% DPS. Skills are also based on weapon power. This puts the entire balance of the game out of whack. - The "infinite tree" is not just 5 trees.... it's a dozen trees stacked in one. The trees respawn faster than a player can harvest them. Combined with the first bug for infinite stamina and the ability to run a few scripts, people have been making thousands dust every few hours of AFK. (and a few dozen embers). - Near limitless dust and ember allows to constantly make reroll on gear to reach power that would only be rarely seen. Cumulated with the crafting bug mentioned above, and you get a very large advantage over other players. The 3 bugs combined gives you a much higher amount of quality material, better stats on weapons, and better reroll on every gear for a snowballing effect. A conservative estimation from my personal experience shows around 30-70% extra stats on gear thanks to easy access to higher grade and infinite reroll. In example: a decent green leather chest with only a few rerolls gets about +1000 health. A blue chest with everything rerolled reaches +1700 health. I believe it is important to get an item wipe as soon as these bugs are fixed in order to get more clarity on the current economy and gear balance.

    Item Wipe

I know alot of people will disagree with me here but I suggest a item wipe, my reasoning is due to people taking advantage of the 100% uptime of bene harvest, infinite trees on EK's for mass farming of dust/embers, bugged weapon crafting and a few other things that gave them an advantage over people who didn't know about these things or newer players. I know the fixes for these things are coming with the next patch but that wont change the fact that people are running around with godly rolled purple/gold gear that knew these things were not working as intended and exploited it, I personally don't care if it happens this is just a suggestion. I also am not accusing anyone in particular, am just stating the facts for people who still don't know, to understand why they may be getting pooped on when they think they have decent gear

Once the bugs get fixed, we will be able to finally see the gathering game as it is intended. We need a full wipe of all gear all skills and everything. Why? We (as the general playerbase) have never gotten a good look at where gathering is from jump. (Hint, it is a horrible, unfun, unrewarding, grind) We need people to experience it, then gripe, loudly, so that they can fix/tune it better. First we had the cheaty potions. Then the cheaty race passive training Then the cheaty Iron iron iron + seals gear. / Bene harvest shovels, since there are no gravedigging seals Once the bugs are gone we can see the gathering game in all of it's unfun glory. We need more options in the tool combines. We need multiple skillcap buckets for group gathering/motherloads We need a higher base crit chance for all starting early game gathering, either through stats or having weakpoints give crit and crit amount per hit on nodes. We need a base bene harvest addition to all gatherers, either through stats, or added to early training nodes, preferably both. We need gathering gear to not cripple combat stats. Turning gatherers into fat victim, loot pinatas. We need the action harvesting buffs to hit group members as well as ourselves to break out neat and fun gameplay. We need gathering discs to actually have some fun in them, not just fill in gaps in the system, that only open other gaps depending on what we select. (If you take lookout to spackle over the bene harvest gap, then your tool durability sucks do to lack of Villian, or plentiful harvest because of a lack of primary disc like Miner.) Choices do matter. Choices like go play a game that is more fun and does not have the flaming pitfalls of suck, that are built into the primary driver of the entire gameloop.

    Hunger Shards 5.8.4

So we made a group that fluctuated between 6 and 8 people, covered the entire zone of Krim Kingdom and hunted shards for 1.5 hours. Our goal was to kill every shard during the day and then as they spawn at night to try and get some to pop up in the keep area (rank 10 parcel). Not a single one. There is a rank 8 parcel out there that we got a few greens from. So we started to think, maybe they just don't spawn in the keep parcel anymore. So we move to Gorro, which has rank 10 Soldiers Transition Fort and a rank9 parcel in the field. Another 1.5 hours later, still horrible. We guesstimate in 3 hours that we killed, as a group, over 200 hunger shards with total zone coverage. Well, you might not have the proper skills, one might say. Yeah, we do and that person was hitting all the high ranked shards. There was one blue shard not shown in this picture:

Sacrifice pit is not dealing with all the extra white resources/trash. Ideas to deal with it. A way for factions to "sacrifice" to the tribes, sending a strong force into zones mostly controlled by another faction. Sac to a god to buff faction controlled points (or even a low grade buff to players) for X time. Guard group to patrol a local zone? Those options should not be cheap and easy, just a way for everyone to pool all the extra stuff together for something.(leader board entry?) I don't mean for this to be player A sacs 1000 points of items for X. More like faction A sacs 100,000 points of items, God/Tribe takes/uses all or part of it to do something. Dont even need a complicated menu to chose what you are sacrificing for, at most you would just need a pit style item for tribes or gods. Effects would be semi-random or in the case of patrols they show up after a random amount of time. Dont need them being called in 5 min before a siege....

I agree, 3-4 months to master something feels about right. Good combat players can be good without delving too deep into the skill trees. Harvesters can focus on a single branch and be as good as the old dogs on that one product. In crafting, either you have your mastery, or you are less. No one is going to take their rare loot only additives to someone that doesn't have all of their assembly and experimentation, and the reputation to back it up. If active skill development becomes a thing, that will change the equation, but asking someone to invest 9 months into being a less than competitive scrub seems a bit over the top to me. Perhaps once you have enough skill points to earn mastery in 2-3 skill tracks, then the passive gains should slow down?

The "game" is going to blow through these values eventually regardless. Your argument would be just as valid as if we had 1 advanced level or 100, because eventually everyone will want to be in the maximum level gear, whatever that is, from pretty much the day they start. Only us first through players are going to experience the world parceled out by the passive training lines. Anyone coming in 3 or 9 or 12 months down the road will be confronted with players in end game gear. Knowing your at least 9 months away from being a competitive crafter would be a major turn off.

Ok that is an unrealistic position for any testing and we have other, harsher mechanics like locked major and fully crafted disciplines to work through. I still think that end game in 3 months makes us blow through the early skill maturity too fast... even with the big jump from white to green, the early power creep all happening in the very first campaign if it were to be 14 days or longer. Diminishing returns means progression is front loaded... blink and you miss the one day of players in white gear, one week at most in green... why have these colors at all, new players after 3 months won't need them... Why does the rewarding feeling benefits of advantage have to come so fast? Is my time moving faster than yours? I thought 9 months to end game was a starting point and that gives us maybe a week in white and 2 more in green gear... maybe it is that last beta where we see 1x. We need to find that other end of the scale, the slow end, the too slow... 10x was just to test early crafting mechanics, 3x for getting the game loop right. I think some of our balance issues are solved by slowing progression creep and of course flattening it.

A wipe is necessary soon, but we should probably wait until a wipe is warranted. IE, HP changes to armor, etc. Is that in 5.8.5? (haven't been to test yet). Last time a wipe was in question Jtodd's comments were that they would wipe only when needed by a major change in tech, and that sounds like a reasonable policy to have. The +20 damage weapons held by some minor guilds aren't going to change the game. Wiping gear/items doesn't fix anything about gear disparity and with the current passive skill system, new players will ALWAYS be behind unless they build in some sort of catch up mechanic. Wipe when we you need to because of technical issues, and my guess is that would be soon based on some upcoming changes

The only thing the scoreboard shows me is alot of people died here, alot of people killed others here, some people love circles, and healers feel sad. Item wipe is for certain due, hopefully in the future ACE will be able to not have wipes of any sort since in the past it has run population away. But with the issues that are being presented and the changes that have been announced to be made, A wipe of items is due, and maybe will make the start of an new trial more interesting. There may also be some back lash if the harvesting feels more laboring than before though.

I'm with you there. Demon's Pact is almost required, and so is a jewelry minor; once your out of passive slots, most minors have nothing to offer. I'm finding a lot of the majors pretty lackluster at this point too. Would happily trade that second major to get Axe Mastery back. Once Majors are a permanent affix, most of those situational hard counter discs are going to be junk.

the game just keeps getting grindier and grindier, this is not the direction ACE should go at all for a PVP FOCUSED GAME, this isnt a pve focused game like eso where 95% of the game is dedicated to pve and the traditional grind, here 95% of the game is dedicated to pvp and forcing pvp players to grind like a second job with rng as bad as this is not the way to go

    Ideas for new win conditions

The current win condition - Points accumulation through capturing and holding keeps, forts, and outposts - is a good proof of concept for win conditions. Let's help the devs come up with some others. Here's my first suggestion: Warband Artifacts CW Each Warband grand general has a cart containing an artifact. Let's assume there are 7 warbands. The carts act as pets and move at the pace of 100% runspeed (so a normal human out of combat with no buffs). Each artifact gives a buff to every member of its owner's faction within 100m. The goal is to assemble all 7 artifact carts in the same place under the control of the same faction. The carts do not log out when their owners do - they drop owner tags at that point. If their owner dies, they drop their owner tag. If the owner moves more than 100m from the cart, it drops owner tags. So one day faction A gains control of a cart. It follows one of their members around until he dies or logs off or gets too far from it at which point someone else has to pick it up. Or they park it in their keep / fort (with no owner tag). Or they park it (with no owner tag) in a corner of the map where they hope no one will look. The CW ends when all 7 carts are within 50m of each other all under the control of the same faction. There is no indication on the world map or whatever as to who owns which cart. That's for scouts/spies to figure out. This win condition works for 3-faction, works for 12-faction, works for dregs/shadows.

"Don't skip steps" and "enjoy the journey" is what I've always thought that was what import rules for campaigns was for. Want to experience a green campaign, find one that blocks all imports of anything above green, and caps out resource nodes at 3. If you don't think that would be appealing to you, why would you assume it's appealing to someone else? I think we have all seen so far in this test, that if allowed players will rush as much as possible to the end game. I know most of the first day players in our guild are looking for and being encouraged to get into, is blue or better gear. And that level is being supported by the guild, so it's possible. Any player taking the "journey" in a campaign that allows any level of gear, is going to be rolled over in most matchups. That's going to apply as much to players wanting to be "dedicated" crafters as fighters. Right now, our guild has zero interest in new players helping us craft, because of sub-current standard results. Fighters can make up for missed combat passive training with skill, and the results have the largest impact on them. Want to be a guild crafter, welp no way am I taking your sub par builds over our other crafters, until you catch up on your training.

That's a good sentiment for launch too, something we can all enjoy together. I agree with that. The test comes later when new players join and feel the constant pressure and the mad scramble to catch up with people who are now the predators. Skill tomes are a good idea and I like the mechanic but those mugs are gonna be incredibly valuable (expensive?)and it will be one more thing that a nub has to grind in order to be competitive. I think this is the crux of the wipe no wipe discussion. Harvesting is not fun(mostly, there is a lot to be said for interesting discord discussions), the mechanics are complex. There is a stat and value for everything, the seasonal debuffs limit the returns on time invested. It's a fog for new players. Heck we've got testers here that have been around for a while and still dont know. Srathor has explained different pieces to me many times and I still have to ask. I just wanna ask ACE hey can I get the dumbed down version of this so that I can hit my rocks and buy the stuff I dont have so I can borrow someone's fully trained crafter to make the stuff I need to be competitive? The knowledge curve is crazy, you need a 200 level theory of game design degree to decipher this junk. Pain I'm sorry I'm derailing your topic. Item wipe wouldn't be so painful (see what I did there?) If the systems for requiring items weren't so damn difficult. Even with broken bene harvest, It's too much for this guy and I suspect most people feel the same way.

I personally think that 1X training would be a big mistake. I think that original number was a playable placeholder estimation that does not represent how things should really play out. The current pace of about 3 months to end of crafting profession is pretty decent for live in my opinion. You push that to 9 months, and I think you lose a huge number of players that don't want to commit to a game for nearly a year before getting into a competitive posistion, which is exactly what the state would be after the first batch made to full training.

The major guilds have done a good job, I think, of containing/banning the weapon issue. I trust the guild leads I'm working with on Chaos, so I think its largely held. What the minor chaos guilds do is whatever. They probably need the handicap. A wipe would be good to remove the need for major guild leads to have to work together and the annoyance of the minor guilds erroding the ban. I doubt they will wipe though with 5.9 hopefully coming within a month. Personally, I'd welcome a wipe. Chaos won't have gear to blame and instead will have to look to their lack of organization.

I feel like if they could make it so that the timer on death shroud started the moment you spawned as the crow, would make things much better. That way if you have some ridiculous 5 min run back to your body, you could revive and not be shrouded. But if you have a quick run, you could respawn but have to wait out the shroud timer. Having both when the body run is excessive is extremely off-putting. Just feels bad.

I think it's obvious that an item wipe will be necessary for 5.9, so please just wait for that. If they wipe items for 5.8.5 and then wipe them again a month later for 5.9, that would be way more deflating to the player base than having a portion of players being over-geared due to bugs/exploits. And to the person who suggested wiping skills too, custard no. I'm now finally getting to the end of the blacksmith tree after the last wipe. Skills will no doubt be wiped for alpha, which is probably 3 to 4 months away. It can wait. Newbies are always going to be behind the curve. Let me enjoy max skills and the resources I've harvested for at least a few weeks ffs.

To be fair it isn't as bad as it used to be, but still, it's not that hard or shouldn't be from my knowledge of editing text... Agree. There is IMHO some really big gap between ACE's game development and ACE's forum management and other non-game related stuff. Seeing things like a faq that has been full of wrong information for years. ACE's sometimes a little dubious calls on the forums. Lack of proper basic actions like uploading the damned youtube account in a reasonable manner. Or even taking time to properly notify us when streams are starting. Heck, I don't think I even saw the stream week actual schedule here. A bunch of silly things that make them seems amateurish and quite honestly makes me feel a little on edge sometimes. This a company with millions of dollars under it's name, not 5 guys making games in their basement. However, when I look at the videos like the last Q&A. It makes me remember why I trusted these guys. Sure, we are not there yet game-wise but I can see these guys care about the game. I just don't feel that care with other stuff.

    Item Wipe

If they do a wipe they should wipe everything including passives, new players and small guilds will have a chance to catch up in gear without running the risk of larger guilds immediately gearing their best with their full maxed crafters and leaving them in the dust, regardless i dont think they should wipe until 5.9 at all despite the exploits but if they have too

Lt. Surelia's PoV - he was really relaxed - he was hungry through out the entire siege - no mana regen

The wipes definitely hurt the smaller players more than the bigger players. With that said I'm sure they'll wipe at some point soon with the armor changes. I hope in the future they can wipe/get rid of specific problematic items without having to do a FULL wipe. Only having to wipe weapons after the advanced weapon changes would have been nice.

Agreed, but the good guilds will get everyone to 50% asap.... I think a wipe is coming soon, I just think doing one for 5.8.5 and then almost certainly for 5.9 may be the issue holding them back. We have no clue when 5.9 is coming, if it will be a month+ id say go for it, less and it becomes more questionable.

Beneficial has been around forever, no one complained much about it because it just made it easier to do the boring part(harvest). The new map shouldve let everyone get to blue if they put any time in at all. So many high rank resources. Not sure your complaint about "infinite" trees. Could do the exact same thing in beachhead. AFAIK there is not a knotwood that is infinite, sometimes get 3/5 stacked on each other but the time savings of that is not a big issue to me. People who are getting embers are putting in the time to farm them. The bugged weaponcrafting I don't think many people knew about until the patch notes, and if it was many must've been on EU side, because no one I talked to knew about it on NA. All in all, I am fine with an item wipe but the worry is that another wipe could be forthcoming and I am sure they don't want to do it multiple times close together.

There's appropriate times for this, as each one of these wipes comes with another chunk of the player population wiping with it. While yes, your decent gear could be getting completely trashed by people who may be taking advantage of all the beneficial up-time, or bugged crafting. The fact is a great deal of the disparity is caused by knowledge bases. I can tell you that our crafters are nearing the ends of every tree. Jewelry has been through multiple re-rolls to make every craft much more effective, as has our crafter's gear. To say certain people have been exploiting beneficial bug is even laughable. Those are people who know that Rune-making Seals go into gear, to make harvesting gear, which makes harvesting more effective. Nothing will change with a wipe, until somehow ACE makes it easier for new players to have access to the knowledge base experienced players have. What I think you need to be suggesting is a massive overhaul of tool-tips. A much more comprehensive beginner zone that gives you a full idea of the game sans the ganking (which has been much improved with higher ranked mobs/resources in beachhead zone, just not crafting). And ultimately easier access into guilds from the game itself, as its utterly obvious you'll only become as good as the people you're surrounded by, not the gear you're wearing.

    Seige system needs overhaul

The goal of a siege window is to prevent nightcapping, where the game becomes about who can populate their faction with the most off-peak time zone players. As someone with a background in GW2 you'd think this would bother you. I played on one of the top servers at launch and it was pretty disheartening to win or lose based on our factions Asianic presence. What happened during NA didn't matter. What happened after they went to sleep did. Siege windows fix this. It's not a perfect solution, but I'd argue its better than the alternative.
