Everytime a jtodcoleman get's sick, a world get's destroyed. 😞 After four years, I didn't think this would be possible at all. But well, recent circumstances prove differently. This is a sad day for all of us. Especially for jtodd of course. But yea, we are all suffering with you. Get well soon. For the sake of all of us. Including you. Don't allow the sacrifice of this one lost world to be in vain. ~freneticallywavingatoddflag~ ~sniff~

Oh god, healing is a topic that deserves its own thread and discussion lol. Healing and AoE as well. Healing is kind of in between atm. It's not fully firehose in the same sense you have in other MMOs (one healer keeping an entire raid alive by spamming his AoE heals), but at the same time it's still strong enough that you'd actually want to stack 2 healers in a group of 5 if you can. So the lack of any meaningful AoE damage outside of ballistas (rip aurora emitter, you're missed) and the lack of dedicated healer classes (there's like 2 and a half out of god knows how many promotion classes), plus a bunch of beneficial AoE ground effects, and we have this melee ball meta of classes that can self sustain without needing too much healing and can still dish out almost as much damage (if not as much) as a squishy dps class. It's all champs and myrms out there, with a couple healers and a knight for chain pulls. 🤣 Honestly this would be the time for the Archdruid to shine. Increase the explosion radius of his orb bombs from 4.5m to 6 or 7m, and give him aurora emitter back, with a buff to its damage. I'd play that 😍 Also another reason why I'd really like the Dregs to have that same 5-man group wide friendly fire that Big World used to have. Otherwise it's just going to be the same zergball spamfest from factions, except as alliances instead.

    Thimble

    [RP] Thimble's Promise

The forges within the Corvus Citadel had been a bustle of activity since the Trials had begun. Though Thimble was but a crow, he had mastered the use of hammer and anvil while inhabiting the reanimated corpse of a long dead knight. Long had he toiled in that vessel, sweating from the heat of the flames, his arms covered in soot. The body had required food and drink while working, but the Citadel had provided. Zerst, Master Chef of the Citadel, had been hard at work himself, creating endless amounts of his signature dishes: gerbil cream pies and gerbil juice. He claimed that there was a secret ingredient, but that he would never tell what it was. No matter; the products of his genius had helped Thimble and the other Crafters of the Citadel outfit nearly all of their combatants in armor made from rare ores gathered near the contested Goldenhorn ore fields. All of that was about to change. The Trial of Valkyn, the All-Father, had begun. The forge still needed tending from time to time, but Thimble had several very eager apprentices who were now skilled enough to take on most of the work. Now Thimble would be able to spend more time in the Trial, to compete to earn tribute with He Who Sits Upon The Dragon Throne, Valkyn the Ancient. He would burn, tear apart, and shred the reanimated bodies inhabited by the crows of Balance, and he would help lead the forces of Corvus Citadel and the rest of Chaos to victory. That was his promise, to himself and to his Brothers and Sisters of the Citadel.

There should be more than one stack buster though. If there’s only one that one becomes required. There’s already enough meta problems with 3/30 available specs being healers and every group needing at least one and pref 2.

We invited you... because despite what Balance... or specifically Winterblades members do with Jah and his alt toon "SockPuppet" using it as a spy, we realized it didn't really matter. Wegave you the benefit of the doubt. BTW, your name is similar to "Malefric" which is Angelmar, who is another Winterblades IC... who we just assumed was troll spying like Jah does. That being said. I would look at the Recruitment forums and try to find a community that fits what you are looking for. This is not a solo friendly game, and you will do much better in coms. What won't get you points though, is coming to the forums and making a salty post like this one... it's bad form. Best regards.. V/r uXa TLDR.. Join Balance or get in coms.. Because most people will just think you are a spy otherwise.... Thank Sockpuppet.

It’s mostly because of animations. The main reason given about why Templars can only use Greatswords is because they use a close 2 handed grip, and no other weapon is designed for that. I imagine there will still be weapon locks (Don’t expect Duelists to wield 2-handed maces anytime soon). I don’t believe these restrictions are reflective of the final game, but time constraints will be the deciding factor. A: There are no diminishing returns, going form 50 to 75 is the same boost as going from 150 to 175, though all Attributes have stat caps between 200 and 350 (which can be raised slightly with better vessels) B: Vessels are capped at level 30, basic vessels get 87 points total, from 1-30 (3 per level, excluding level 1). Legendary vessels are probably between 116 and 145 points (assuming 4 or 5 points per level, excluding level 1). But again, each attribute has a stat cap, and some stats that feed from attributes may have an even lower cap, so trying to max out an attribute may not always be the most efficient. There’s a cap on Blacksmithing Assembly, Experimentation, and Experimentation Points (100, 100, 18, I think). Full Blacksmithing training doesn’t reach the cap, so using the Blacksmithing Discipline and Blacksmithing gear is required to reach those caps. Additionally, Blacksmithing recipes are tied to the Blacksmithing Major Discipline, so you’ll need that anyway. The Blacksmithing Minor increases the Experimentation and Experimentation Points cap, iirc (have never actually used it, only glanced at it when it was introduced). Some races also have stat boosts to Blacksmithing, but those only really matter in the early game (and it makes it easier to stat cap), but the bottom line is that using the Major Discipline doesn’t make you an insurmountablly better blacksmith (unless compared to a non-blacksmith ) Depending on your definition of grind, probably. The Devs want some way to ease new players into the game and understanding their class. Talents (and by extension, levels) do that for them. There will be more diverse ways for gaining experience than just killing and sacrificing (like, harvesting, crafting, and doing objectives), but leveling Vessels is here to stay for the foreseeable future. A: Every couple of months. The devs try not to wipe, but sometimes they are necessary (database changes or whatnot). There will definitely be a wipe at the start of Alpha testing, but I wouldn’t expect another wipe until early summer (not I’m not a dev and Tyrant might do a wipe tomorrow just to spite me for saying this ) B: If by player skill you mean knowledge of game mechanics and such, then yes. There will be a final wipe before the game soft launches, but all the knowledge and experience you gain from playing now and future iterations you’ll keep! 😛 A: I have heard no mention of such a mechanic. In ther current iteration of the campaign select screen, you can view the campaign map and the leaderboards of the campaign without actually joining, so you could use that to see which faction is behind (and which is ahead). No clue if this is just a pre-alpha thing, or if they’ll fix that interaction in later iterations B: Your account is locked to that faction on that campaign once you select it (even if you unlock all your vessels and try to rejoin). When a new campaign starts you can pick a new faction. If you ask nicely enough, the Devs can use their Dev powers to switch your account to a different faction. Hope this answers all your questions!

In regards to the power curve it would help a great deal if White Gear started at 6 PIPS of Experimentation like it USED to. So gear would be 6/7/8/9/10 instead of 4/7/8/9/10 which is a HUGE jump from White to Green. This would also ensure that White Gear would not phase out into obsolete territory for crafters as quickly if it still had a use and more potential Experimentation Points. I like the Talent trees, that's where you can create differing Class builds. But forcing players to level to even be able to play their Class is atrocious and grindy (even if it is a fairly small grind) Perhaps new Vessels could start with a significant pool of Talent points to unlock their Class Basics as Talent trees expand and grow OR get rid of the Class Basic Talents that unlock Skills at least and allow new Vessels to have the Skills applicable to their Class from the start.

We definitely need some diverse weapon styles. There’s not much reason to use a short sword vs a long sword vs an axe vs a mace except for the damage type. I would very much like to see short sword Knights having a different playstyle than long sword Knights and long sword Knights having a different playstyle than axe knights, rather than it just being a personal preference. You kinda get that with mace vs sword (crushing dmg vs slashing dmg), but if mace lmbs had different anims (and maybe a different lmb altogether), it’d probably feel more distinct. No idea if this is just a symptom of pre-alpha and that’s going to be an alpha/beta feature, or if it’s something that’s nice, but not necessary and will be pushed post-soft launch. Maybe the next time Blair/Dogget/Todd are on a combat stream, I’ll ask.

The zone caps are just bad for game play. They need them in place for performance reason but @Tyrant said thats temporary and as they can they will eventually begin to raise them.

    1. Weapons and Classes I know in the early playtests it seemed there were multiple weapon options for every class. Now it seems weapon choices are extremely restricted by class (Champions and great axes, clerics and hammer+shield etc.) Though apparently some restrictions can be lifted by adopting certain disciplines (Even though those disciplines don't state so in their description which really should be updated.) So my question is this: Are these weapon restrictions reflective of the desired mechanics of the final game, or is there a particular reason they are so restrictive right now? 2. Character Attributes So as you level you can pump more points into strength, dexterity, constitution, intelligence and spirit to receive various benefits. I have two questions about this: A. Are there diminishing returns on attribute returns? Does raising an attribute from 50 to 75 give the same boost and states as raising it from 150 to 175? B. Is there a "level cap" for vessels or can we potentially keep feeding into these attributes forever? 3. Crafting Skills vs. Crafting Disciplines So I've noticed we have an EVE like training system for leveling a lot of skills as was promised. We also have Disciplines and Talents we can use to augment our characters. My question is this: Suppose we max out a crafting skill tree such as blacksmithing with our character skills, and also have the major and minor Blacksmithing Discipline. Does having blacksmithing maxed in skills render this redundant, or, does that mean you are a better blacksmith than anyone who hasn't done that? 4. Vessel Levels Simple question here. Is grinding for Vessel levels a permanent game feature, or a placeholder feature? 5. Duration of Alpha Characters A. How often are alpha characters wiped? B. I assume nothing we do at this stage of the game affects anything but our player skills going into future iterations? 6. Faction Balance / Switching Factions I locked into the Chaos faction last night and immediately regretted it when I saw how one sided the fight against Order was. AKA Order is barely a factor in this fight and it's just balance vs. chaos. A. While I understand and agree with preventing people from switching to a winning faction mid-campaign or looking to see which factions have the most players, are there any options being considered to allow players to switch to a losing faction or a "Put me in the weakest faction" option in faction selection? B. Are we locked into one faction for the duration of a campaign or do accounts become locked to a faction?

FYI, @Malphrus the reason you didn't get to see a siege, was there wasn't one. Order is so bereft of players right now, they didn't have keep walls up, so Balance just waltzed right in, put up walls for them, and waited for the siege timer to start. The other zones ended up so full, there was no way for a real fight to start. A 25 second siege might be a new record never to be beat. Also FYI, I was in the chaos group you followed. People get a bit testy when they think they are being followed to report positions/numbers.

Hey guys, I wanted to share my latest video with everyone. In this video, it's mostly just me rambling on about my current thoughts for the game. I'm loving the game and I've gotten to meet some really great people. However I think it's important that everyone remember to keep your morale up as we go through testing and things change. I talk a little bit about the importance of making friends and the social aspects of an MMO, and I also touch on the topic of the new campaign war (Trial 3), and the shifting population. I hope you guys enjoy. Thanks, Ceegore

ACE has no interest in loosening their moderation policy, and I believe it'll ultimately be to their detriment, but that's OK. People are just wrong sometimes. It's totally possible we who'd prefer looser moderation are wrong instead, I'd say. Not a 100% clear issue. Apart from the discord server, perhaps the solution lies in the recently developed chrome extension "Dissenter"? It has some pretty clear advantages over a community forum hosted elsewhere, which will run into the usual coordination problem when starting up. It may not catch on either of course, but I think it'd have a better shot than any 'elsewhere' forum. Technically it'd all still be happening on the same forums we're on now, URL wise, but would be completely unmoderatable and with no possible reprecussions by ACE, as they have no way to verify the identity of any commenters on Dissenter. I could simply post a comment posing as mandalore right now spouting every racial slur in the book, for example. You could make a thread about <HATED GUILD>, and make the post on these forums filled with only G-rated praise; the Dissenter 'mirror' would contain the real, assumedly vitriolic post. Hopefully this post is not itsself against the rules, but I figure it's pretty much like hosting a community forum elsewhere except more streamlined and effective in every way. It effectively just makes the controversial stuff 'opt-in'.

    1) waypoint future should be (like those ones which are for teleport gates and for marking death place). placable by hotkey and visible on mini compass by party members. 2) group leader should be visible in party frames and on the map 3) group should be visible on map (it was early) those 3 futures gives better game expirience

Please consider the redundancy on the way we view an opponent's health bars, currently while targeting a Player/Creature there are 3. When viewing large battles almost half the screen is health bars and name plates is this intentional? I recommend reimagining the way health bars, and names work and are displayed on our screen. I Imagine a good way to simplify all this is to have the only health indicator be the one on the targeting reticule. If you like having everyone's life bar showing on screen then I recommend removing the blocky bars to do this and just drain the name plate of color or the Guild/God shield crest above player, the shield crest could drain from top to bottom, rather than side to side. Creatures don't have Shield crests above their name but they could function to symbolize what God/Clan they represent and to display their name and tier, giving a tidier way to represent these functions maybe.

Can we get an arrow above team leaders? Option to hide parts of the icons over people. Reverse Hp bars would at least make it easier on heals. Can add raid groups to that list as well =D

Healing is only an issue because there are zero anti healing that scale. Assassin doesn’t work, plague lord isn’t strong enough and honestly there should be another disc so people aren’t forced into one. It’s hard to see if a mechanic works if the counter to it doesn’t.

Some kind of trash armor available at level 1 would be helpful. Prominently featuring player vendors at the beachhead/in your faction's temple would help a lot too. Afterall the whole point of vendors only offering garbage armor is to put emphasis on player crafting. Why not just make player crafted armor more accessible to newbs in a manner that rewards the crafters?
  44. 1 point
Oof. Glad I'm alpha testing because I see a lot of newer players doing a lot of rerolls to come up with builds they'll be satisfied with. I just hope that once I perfect my builds after going through enough wipe cycles that the nerf/buff cycle doesn't have me rerolling characters anyway. I hope the "Every choice is 100% set in stone" stance is something they review even if character changes are a slow process rather than the standard instant reset.
  45. 1 point
I've seen at least one person make the argument there needs to be meaningful progression for people to be interested in logging in. For PvPers this isn't true. At all. I played a game 5 years that character progression could be maximized in the first 5 hours because the combat system was engaging/fun. A lot of other people loved that game too. It was called Freelancer and it's success kind of helped launch another prominent crowdfunded game developed by the same guy (Chris Roberts). What PvPers do want is some way to measure their success. Which is provided by the fact campaigns have win conditions. Real PvPers (Not bottom feeders who need their egos propped up by the fact their gear/level will enable them to make SOME kills) will have no issue getting into this game whether or not there is any stat disparity at all between white and purple gear so long as they have a way to measure whether they are winners or losers. This does have some truth when it comes to economic aspects like crafting. A thriving economy requires and endless supply of work you can do to help advance your guild/faction. Anything that gives people an advantage PvPers are going to want though. Whether that be a 500% power gap or a 5% power gap. Items that provide minor advantages that are cycled through the economy via destruction very quickly are just as good or better than items with a huge power gap that stay in the economy a long time. I don't know the current state of the game well enough at this point to comment on how well it's doing in these regards. Just throwing out some general thoughts from my experience with PvP and Open World PvP sandboxes in particular.

I had not seen that “HOW DO YOU PREVENT SEASONED CHARACTERS FROM SMASHING NEW PLAYERS?” in the FAQ. If what is their intent then I agree with most of what the OP is saying. There are a lot of suggestion and ways to make things more flat line and I would appreciate it if we started to go in that direction. It is definitely MUCH better than most MMOs where an end game player can look at a lv 1 player and turn them to ash but the end result is still the same. I disagree that discs are where it went wrong. What the discs are adding might be wrong but the disc system I think is a fun one. The ability to create your own style or theory craft the next best is one of the things I find most appealing about the game. I just think they need to revamp the discs so they give various tactical abilities vs +20% dmg abilities. For example Force Mage – I like the push back but dmg boost makes it OP. Make me run faster, jump higher, see more, CC more, change dmg type, etc… Stop giving me more dmg, more armor, more healing, more crit, crit dmg, ap, +wpn dmg, etc…

Game not what it should be

I feel like some of these complaints kinda boil down to being upset you can't do everything yourself and then getting outnumbered when you fight. I personally think dependence on other players is important for making a game and community feel alive. And getting outnumbered by another force is a combination of small worlds, big guilds being forced to play with more casual or smaller groups, and lack of population. Complaining about guild organization in a guild-based game is pretty random to me. But its almost like in the future we will have guild v guild and dregs worlds where most of the highly organized guilds will be playing. I imagine a lot of these problems will be fixed with better objectives in a bigger world in different world bands. There are MANY MANY builds that you can make, I think customization is pretty insane atm but gear is too strong so it's overshadowed. And with training plus spring harvest bonus I can't really imagine it's hard to come about a large quantity of mats. That said...some balance changes regarding crafting, gear, and combat abilities are sorely needed imo.

    VIP

Are there any games that provide optional subs that aren't perceived as p2w in some way? I don't know of any that literally let people pay to win, but all seem to provide advantage and convenience over those that don't pay. Beyond cosmetics, I'm not sure what they can offer that won't upset some. Considering they believed that VIP would be a steady stream of revenue, I wish them luck in figuring it out. This has been one of my biggest gripes with development. They've updated the site several times over the years, including adding/removing sections of the FAQ and changing wording. With the most recent change they could of tasked someone with taking a day or two to read it and remove/change anything that was outdated. This isn't exactly heavy duty work. Simply deleting incorrect information would be a good first step. Major updates and changes do not happen that frequently in terms of big picture stuff that should be in the FAQ. Having things like this in the FAQ is laughable and misleading To be fair it isn't as bad as it used to be, but still, it's not that hard or shouldn't be from my knowledge of editing text...
