    visual noise: health bar options?

@nblottie mass fights still result in a large degree of 'visual noise'. a large part of this is the excessively large health bars, but there are obviously many other elements going on as well. any possibility of a client setting option that would allow you to automatically hide a health bar when it is full? bonus if you can set: - separately for enemies, allies and group. - to only display when lower than a defined % - to only display when either damaged/healed/shielded within last ~5 (X) seconds - controls over the maximum size/width of the bar (probably 2-3 times as wide as it should be atm...) or alternative shapes such as a minimalist globe [e.g. tyranny minimal 'traffic globe' example]

War Story of the Week: Galvia

When I began my work day this morning, one of the first things I saw was a message that Marth had sent last night. It read, "There was a massive fight tonight. Hopefully someone sends you footage, was easily 70v70." I asked around and it was Galvia to the rescue. He was still in the process of getting the video prepped for YouTube, but hurried that along and shared the link. My favorite part of the video is when he admits that he was getting so salty that he switched off the audio. That's not to say that I enjoy Galvia being unhappy, but rather that it's a great sign that the game, even in pre-alpha, can evoke that much emotion. Not all War Stories are success stories, but boy howdy, can those feels be real. What’s been your favorite Crowfall moment so far?
  3. 4 points
Hi. I was watching your latest Q&A and you guys mentioned the need for new player feedback. So here is a quick short list from my first 4 hours. Please note I understand this is pre-alpha and I'm sure you guys are already aware of these concerns and they are probably on a to-do list somewhere. And I'm just a noob 😃 1. My inventory is quickly filling up with things I don't know what to do with. Its kind of overwhelming to an organization freak like myself. 2. Whenever I go to bring up my mouse to check what a spell does, it swaps to my survival trey. Its a minor thing, but as a new player the thing I'm constantly checking is what my spells do, and if I could quickly pull up my mouse to hover over my spells it would be convenient. 3. I keep getting lost. A minimap would be helpful as the map takes a second to load and feels laggy 4. The training campaign feels very aimless. Not sure what to do, I guess go kill stuff? Also not sure which rank is appropriate for my level 5. The UI seems alittle too small, like I'm squinting to read the text. However, in general the UI is beautiful 6. I find the target reticle area to be very awkward. If you compare how the screen looks in a conventional RPG versus how this game forces you to play, it feels like I'm forced to play looking up. Half my screen is not being used in that its a view of the sky. The only way I can play is in first person but that still feels weird for me 7. All the zones I've encountered over the first ~4 hours look the exact same. When I go into the campaign map I don't see any other environments, just islands of the same instance essentially. So it gives me the impression that this is the only environment in the game? 8. You guys prob get this alot, but combat movement speed feels like I'm perma snared. I can't imagine pvp combat being very exciting at this snail pace. 9. This might sound dumb but there is kind of too much freedom in crafting and collection at the beginning. I find myself collecting everything but not knowing what to do with it - or feeling overwhelmed with all the mats I have. I have alittle of everything and no idea what I *should* be trying to craft. This leads to me picking everything up and before I know it, I'm bored because all I'm doing is collecting resources that I don't know what to do with. In general I love the idea of the game though and I'm excited for the finished product!!!

    Thoughts on Tanks?

I mean, thats really all you're lacking. You're ranting about something that is not the case. Pitfighters are fantastic. They are among the top in ability to contribute, many other class/specs are way below them in every area. Advice: As you play the class you'll learn when to use your barriers. As you play the class you'll learn how to manage sturdy. As you play the class you'll learn the power of initiation. As you play the class you'll learn the use and order of application for each of your CCs. As you play the class you'll understand that while you might do 60% of the damage of your alpha counterparts, you have way more than 60% more survivability. As you play the class you'll learn that "retaliation discs" are a waste. As you play the class you'll learn how to build synergy between your natural stats and available discs. As you play the class you'll learn to control the battlefield, meaning you're the target they hate that they must deal with, but must. As you play the class you'll learn when to CC healers or CC melee ball. As you play the class you'll learn to anticipate ult switches so you can neckbreak with the dps power play. As you play the class you'll learn that you are one of the most mobile fighters in every battle. As you play the class you'll learn that you can situate yourself in a doorway and completely deny it. As you play the class you'll learn that you can single-handedly counter ballista. As you play the class you'll learn that on the scale of survivability+damage, you win out over everything else in the game, by a large margin. As you play the class you'll learn to successfully use your racial abilities. As you read this list you'll learn that I've already mentioned each of these before.

Like the ideas for removing the hard bar per the OP. Just to toss out idea, another way to simplify the display of health bar when it does appear, is option for circular view (think total war 3 kingdoms) - uses less area to tell the story.

@thomasblair @jtoddcoleman Recent changes to your targeting system have been great for offensive ability targeting, but they have also largely eroded the integrity behind landing heal spells. Please help: Used to, in Scenario 1, you could land that heal with a left shoulder target easy peasy. You could even land the rescue when the enemy between healer and friendly was almost FULLY eclipsing the healer. Now, with the new targeting, that heal will not miss, but will auto target one of the nearest enemies even though you are clearly targeting a friendly. You'll see whatever target-side animation your heal does happen on an enemy. They do not gain health or benefit from any buffs or hots given by the heal. It gets worse. You'd think Scenario 2 is certain to land. Actually, even at greater Friendly to Enemy distances, that heal will go through the friendly and auto-target the enemy directly behind him with the new targeting system. As shown in Scenario 3a, in order to land that rescue, the friendly must find a path out of the enemies so that 1) there are no enemy within 3 meters and 2) there is no enemy directly behind them. The healer still needs to make a left shoulder heal. If the healer tried to heal the inside shoulder, shown in Scenario 3b, it would instead auto-target to the enemy accordingly. The enemy "snap-to" of heals is quite expansive. It feels to me that every enemy is running around with a 3-4 meter wide hitbox and the spells are auto-targeting to the enemy to whose center your target is closest. This is fine for pew pew. But you need to give your healer spells that same level of intended-target snap-to. They cannot be expected to try and navigate a system like whats currently out there and still be dependably effective. I know that @Hungry has already put up videos showing this, but if necessary, I can make videos to go along with each of these scenarios.

The burst lighting effect for Execute Templar skill combo is quite noisy and could certainly get toned down IMO. While I suppose it's nice to have a visual indicator when you are actually striking a target below the Execute threshold of 35% this is too much.

I've got this covered. ! The King Of Balance: Ah! Another new Crow! A little scrawny but I don't suppose the Gods would have chosen you if there weren't something to you. Just as the Gods have chosen you to fight their battles, they've chosen me to make sure their last line of defense here in the Reach stays intact. My subjects do a fine job keeping what little of the Hunger reaches this far at bay, but recently we've run in to a new problem. Gangs of barbarians from several indigenous populations have recently been driven off their lands by The Hunger. As you may know, that damnable force consumes with greater efficacy nearer to its source, and so I suppose it was only a matter of time before it drove these ruffians as far as the Reach. The good news is they're no match for one of the Gods own Crows like yourself. I mean sure they've got an advantage in numbers, efficiency, knowledge, and armaments, but what they don't have is the gift of immortality! If you'd help me thin the herd a bit I'd be willing to provide you access to a gate leading to the battlefront, and I'd even be willing to let you keep whatever you find on the corpses of those filthy invaders to boot! I'm sure you could use a bit of new equipment before you ship out for the grand conflict, right? What say you, Crow? Do we have a deal? OBJECTIVE: Kill invading war tribes for the King of Balance to reach level 20 REWARD: Access to 3 faction campaigns. All The Loot You Can Carry. Do you accept this quest from The King Of Balance? visual noise: health bar options?

I've been complaining about this for a while. We really need options to toggle/scale all of the UI elements is what it comes down to. The UI is a FPS hog too if you ever try turning it off and then on you'll gain significant FPS with it off. We need a much better HUD for what you do have targeted that shows name, hitpoints, buff/debuffs, etc. That way we don't need all of the names/hitpoint bars everywhere which clutter the screen. In Darkfall there were no names or hitpoint bars above peoples heads, just different colored crests (blue = alliance, green = friendly, red = enemy, etc.). What many did in big fights was leave crests on for ally/friendly and off for enemy and then it became really easy to ID friend from foe even at long range. There's a lot of good examples of visual clutter in Glavia's War Story video around the 7:00 mark.

Melee accuracy is really messed up at the moment. The offset recticle and smalll tolerances make hitting anything in a moving flowing action game less than intuitive. They really need to make it hit a larger area to make up for the slop. i personally hate the offset recticle.

Why wouldn’t they? and it’s not like the kill count is anything close to accurate anyway. it really needs to only show PVP kills and PVP deaths.

    Motherlode Question

Run down for this process: To get the rough soul gems needed to upgrade runic tools to be able to harvest souls from r6 nodes / mobs, you need to mine non slate ore (maybe you can get it from slate) then craft either a knife or a hammer with the soul gem to get the tool you need. To get the soul just keep farming till u get one. Then for explorations you will need 2 blood of any rarity (but the 2 must share a rarity) and some other easier materials and crafted at a rune crafting station. Finally to hit mother lodes, (stone for minerals you will want to make p stones to give good stat upgrades to the vessel) (ore is gems for necklaces, rings and runic weapons) you will want the player with the passive training to have a powerful tool while the partner(s) will have basic tools with foreman (foreman debuff will stack so 2 people with foreman is good)then have them activate the take it down ability whenever its off cool down and just keep going through the mother lodes. The reason to have the person with the best training to have the best tool is because whoever deals the most damage in the first 1/3(need a double check on that) will have the nodes drop table snap on to their training. So after the first third or so everyone can then use their best tools to help speed up the process. Typically you will want a potion as well for gem and minerals as they will greatly help your chances of drops (you will need bones for these potions) General tips: ravines will have lots of one type of node (stone or ore) but lots of mobs, keeps will have both types but more spread out and little to no mobs. For the foreman people a good idea is to equip villien exploration disc (don't forget to equip the passive too) as it will reduce the amount of basic tools you need to craft. (That soul also drops from quarrying) Vessel wise: As I understand it, p stones (philosopher's stones) aren't required for vessels but they make vessels a lot better. Also to make the good p stones you will need an emerald tablet, otherwise you can only make p stones with 2 philosopher's solutions, with the tablet you make it with 4 solutions. Which is about a jump from +20 to +40 of a stat. To get the tablet farm boss tier(captain, chief, king) war tribes of r6 and above that are the fae looking ones or the satyr tribe.

    Vindicator Tree needs some love

So the vindicator tree needs some reworking here. It gives straight stats over and over and over when the class hard caps so fast it does not actually use some of its nodes. This is a white vessel vindicator. Notice the 38% slashing bonus and the 28% fire bonus. They both hard cap at 40%. This gives +15% fire damage giving you 43%/40% over capping that stat. This is BEFORE armor and weapons and discs. A naked vindicator overcaps their fire stat just by using devotion. Oh and fire% is slashing % as vindi which will be important to remember for the next node... This skill removes the health portion of holy warrior for more damage. Seems reasonable until you realize this would give you 68%/40% BEFORE armor weapons and discs (not to mention devotion will give you 15% as well). You lose a huge portion of your survivability for literally nothing. A node that should be one of the trees most important nodes is actually a detriment to the class. This one is just questionable stat pumping. All of vindi damage is execute/riposte and divine light. Its realistically 50/50 split however the vastly more important portion of your impact is execute/riposte. This node does nothing to affect that. Most other classes get 225 AP or at least something impactful off this node. Vindi gets 6% crit chance, a stat that is not overall that impactful for this kit. Also with anti crit being so rampant 6% additional crit to the minimal existing crit is still not high enough to actually crit at any meaningful rate on anyone in decent gear. Oh and did i mention Execute and riposte are auto crit? Please no one say you can increase your caps so that's OK. You can but not by enough to matter when were over capping slashing by up to 43% just by using the skills on our kit BEFORE armor weapons and discs. May I suggest throwing some more crit damage into the tree? Maybe a conversion for Fire or slashing damage bonus to critical damage, not 1:1 obviously. Make the Holy Warrior node give a flat power bonus to execute or just melee skills in general? There's a lot that could be done here but just throwing flat stats into this class did not make it viable (for the very minimal time it was)the absurd execute and divine light numbers did. Please work on some of these nodes, they are in dire need of some loving @mhalashace TLDR: Vindis cap stats by existing and their tree gives them way over cap stats. Please fix

This barrier damage is based off your weapon type, so for example it would be slashing damage if you were using a sword. Many thanks to @vkromas for helping to find the answer.

Have to agree with Hithar here. In anything where there are more than 6 people in the melee scrum, the combination of 3m range, body blocking and desyncs makes playing a melee extremely difficult, especially when you are trying to focus-fire a single target. It seems more luck than anything else if you actually hit the right person, or anyone at all.

    Leather Gathering

so I think something really needs to be done about leather gathering. I know a few people just from my own guild that don't want to run leather only classes because of it.. I farm leather for blacksmith items and that alone is annoying. I couldn't imagine running 1 or more leather wearing classes and having to gear/re-gear them. A suggestion for a very simple fix - Leave everything the same, but reduce the maximum health of "skinning nodes" by around half. so you still have to kill and skin but it only takes half the time to actually skin.

    visual noise: health bar options?

Could make a colored border around the shield that empties downward like this globe. The bordered HP bars we used to use to see barriers were pretty readable without being intrusive and only took a few pixels extra real estate in a practical sense. Take that approach with color coding and some "single crest" options (e.g. "show me only guild" or "only nation/faction") etc. For extra oomph, you could even have the option setting to dynamically adjust crest displays based on parcel state. For instance maybe I want to see guild crests and faction crests in the open world but I only want to see faction crests during a siege or fort fight. You could also dynamically adjust this just based upon players in view range. 5v5 fight? its giving me a lot of data and big HP bars so that I can more cleanly target manage. Giant siege? I don't actually need that much detailed information so shrink down the shileds, use only one, and use the mini border bar so I have a better view of the overall battlefield.

Yes it`s probably a bug @Staff - if a character can enter the campaign they should be part of the scoreboard. Afk timer in God`s Reach and in the Campaign is too aggro like my x girl so I need to take precautions which seems unneccessary until we get full servers. Bandages with over 59 seconds cool down is a bit much and I am aware of sustain powers on some major disc. runes and some classes, but maybe tweaked and adjusted down to 30 seconds. You cant do anything while bandage based on the animation so it feels spot on.

    Mighty or Ultimate...

All 3 are great. Brutal knocks down, so think of it more in terms of when you'd like to be AoE CCing. Mighty always, unless 1) you need healing/more defensive posture, then go Ultimate and if you find yourself in a position where you need some more peels/CC, then get brutal out. I always take every ability in every tree of the classes I play, even if its not the best, you don't know if they're going to change it. Until higher levels of gear, try and get 3 neckbreakers off during a mighty warrior 2. Might warrior on the first press is a 3 min buff, if you press it again it will give you a stronger 30 sec buff. You'll want to use that as a power play where you do your best rotation of high dmg abilities working in your neckbreakers. Yes, take outrage. You'll take everything as an alpha accept only 1/3 in toughness, 0/3 in Potency and 0/3 in Animosity

    Thoughts on Tanks?

A tank in PvP, when its been viable, in my opinion, has the ability to thwart the enemy plays. He accomplishes through control abilities and physical mass (collision). In order for a tank to be viable in PvP, he'll need to have the ability to 1) present himself as a target and not die quickly if immediately targeted (tankiness) and 2) Be a thorn in the side of enemy plans by controlling, slowing, corralling, CCing, Taunting etc. Where a tank becomes OP is if he is also able to do great damage. Having someone be required to go around a tank is good. Having said tank wreck the backfield is bad. Considering this, I think Pitfighter is in a pretty good place. @Toadwart 1 "regarded as OP" No 2 "other dps class benefit as well" Yes, but classes can easily max out all the important stats and have ability points left over going into secondary and tertiary allocations. A tank gets less AP in his tree, for example, so being able to dump more into STR without capping AP is good for him, because he's got more AP to gain before he caps. I seriously doubt most dps classes need to be rolled higher than blue vessels (given a quality necro and proper gear) to pretty much cap out anything worth capping. 3 "doesnt every class get CC" yes, but not the amount that Pit gets, and not the quality either (blind and suppress are very powerful).

    Thoughts on Tanks?

Tanks are pretty crappy as far as filling any sort of what most people consider to be a "tank" role. No game did the pvp tank better than Warhammer online. I wish Crowfall would use that as the foundation for what tanks can be in this game.

The fact that Ground-Targeted AoEs get intercepted by player (friendly or not) and AI units is quite inconvenient in larger fights or when any number of people are moving around you... Instead of firing your ability out at range (where you're trying to aim your reticle) they will stop short at the first unit along that path (even if that unit is behind you, because aiming seems to start behind your character). It felt much better to play in these big fights we get when the aiming for GT AoEs ignored player and AI unit collision, because there's too many bodies getting in the way.

Hello, very new to the game, i like it a lot so far. But one thing has been bothering me especially. Please give access to All Key Binds in Settings. Best example is that I want to lay the Inventory to the Tab Key. Which is possible but it still changes the chat while opening the inventory at the same time. Also the effects of Stats are not quite clear to someone who is new. The detailed stats are incolpete: E.g. I started playing Assassin Blackguard. Which has a Lifesteal effect of 8% on poisen and I also think all other attacks, neither is listed in the detailed Sats. Additionally the effect of increased Healing on Life Steal is unclear. From what I tested it does increase the Lifesteal a bit. Besides that in which was the Attack Power influences the Final DMG is something I could not figue out so far. I'm sorry if some of my feedback is not valid since it is in the game and I couldnt find it or has been answered in the forum, but I could not figure it out InGame so far.
