War Story of the Week: Galvia

When I began my work day this morning, one of the first things I saw was a message that Marth had sent last night. It read, "There was a massive fight tonight. Hopefully someone sends you footage, was easily 70v70." I asked around and it was Galvia to the rescue. He was still in the process of getting the video prepped for YouTube, but hurried that along and shared the link. My favorite part of the video is when he admits that he was getting so salty that he switched off the audio. That's not to say that I enjoy Galvia being unhappy, but rather that it's a great sign that the game, even in pre-alpha, can evoke that much emotion. Not all War Stories are success stories, but boy howdy, can those feels be real. What’s been your favorite Crowfall moment so far?

    visual noise: health bar options?

Like the ideas for removing the hard bar per the OP. Just to toss out idea, another way to simplify the display of health bar when it does appear, is option for circular view (think total war 3 kingdoms) - uses less area to tell the story.

@thomasblair @jtoddcoleman Recent changes to your targeting system have been great for offensive ability targeting, but they have also largely eroded the integrity behind landing heal spells. Please help: Used to, in Scenario 1, you could land that heal with a left shoulder target easy peasy. You could even land the rescue when the enemy between healer and friendly was almost FULLY eclipsing the healer. Now, with the new targeting, that heal will not miss, but will auto target one of the nearest enemies even though you are clearly targeting a friendly. You'll see whatever target-side animation your heal does happen on an enemy. They do not gain health or benefit from any buffs or hots given by the heal. It gets worse. You'd think Scenario 2 is certain to land. Actually, even at greater Friendly to Enemy distances, that heal will go through the friendly and auto-target the enemy directly behind him with the new targeting system. As shown in Scenario 3a, in order to land that rescue, the friendly must find a path out of the enemies so that 1) there are no enemy within 3 meters and 2) there is no enemy directly behind them. The healer still needs to make a left shoulder heal. If the healer tried to heal the inside shoulder, shown in Scenario 3b, it would instead auto-target to the enemy accordingly. The enemy "snap-to" of heals is quite expansive. It feels to me that every enemy is running around with a 3-4 meter wide hitbox and the spells are auto-targeting to the enemy to whose center your target is closest. This is fine for pew pew. But you need to give your healer spells that same level of intended-target snap-to. They cannot be expected to try and navigate a system like whats currently out there and still be dependably effective. I know that @Hungry has already put up videos showing this, but if necessary, I can make videos to go along with each of these scenarios.

The burst lighting effect for Execute Templar skill combo is quite noisy and could certainly get toned down IMO. While I suppose it's nice to have a visual indicator when you are actually striking a target below the Execute threshold of 35% this is too much.

I've got this covered. ! The King Of Balance: Ah! Another new Crow! A little scrawny but I don't suppose the Gods would have chosen you if there weren't something to you. Just as the Gods have chosen you to fight their battles, they've chosen me to make sure their last line of defense here in the Reach stays intact. My subjects do a fine job keeping what little of the Hunger reaches this far at bay, but recently we've run in to a new problem. Gangs of barbarians from several indigenous populations have recently been driven off their lands by The Hunger. As you may know, that damnable force consumes with greater efficacy nearer to its source, and so I suppose it was only a matter of time before it drove these ruffians as far as the Reach. The good news is they're no match for one of the Gods own Crows like yourself. I mean sure they've got an advantage in numbers, efficiency, knowledge, and armaments, but what they don't have is the gift of immortality! If you'd help me thin the herd a bit I'd be willing to provide you access to a gate leading to the battlefront, and I'd even be willing to let you keep whatever you find on the corpses of those filthy invaders to boot! I'm sure you could use a bit of new equipment before you ship out for the grand conflict, right? What say you, Crow? Do we have a deal? OBJECTIVE: Kill invading war tribes for the King of Balance to reach level 20 REWARD: Access to 3 faction campaigns. All The Loot You Can Carry. Do you accept this quest from The King Of Balance? visual noise: health bar options?

I've been complaining about this for a while. We really need options to toggle/scale all of the UI elements is what it comes down to. The UI is a FPS hog too if you ever try turning it off and then on you'll gain significant FPS with it off. We need a much better HUD for what you do have targeted that shows name, hitpoints, buff/debuffs, etc. That way we don't need all of the names/hitpoint bars everywhere which clutter the screen. In Darkfall there were no names or hitpoint bars above peoples heads, just different colored crests (blue = alliance, green = friendly, red = enemy, etc.). What many did in big fights was leave crests on for ally/friendly and off for enemy and then it became really easy to ID friend from foe even at long range. There's a lot of good examples of visual clutter in Glavia's War Story video around the 7:00 mark.

    Motherlode Question

Run down for this process: To get the rough soul gems needed to upgrade runic tools to be able to harvest souls from r6 nodes / mobs, you need to mine non slate ore (maybe you can get it from slate) then craft either a knife or a hammer with the soul gem to get the tool you need. To get the soul just keep farming till u get one. Then for explorations you will need 2 blood of any rarity (but the 2 must share a rarity) and some other easier materials and crafted at a rune crafting station. Finally to hit mother lodes, (stone for minerals you will want to make p stones to give good stat upgrades to the vessel) (ore is gems for necklaces, rings and runic weapons) you will want the player with the passive training to have a powerful tool while the partner(s) will have basic tools with foreman (foreman debuff will stack so 2 people with foreman is good)then have them activate the take it down ability whenever its off cool down and just keep going through the mother lodes. The reason to have the person with the best training to have the best tool is because whoever deals the most damage in the first 1/3(need a double check on that) will have the nodes drop table snap on to their training. So after the first third or so everyone can then use their best tools to help speed up the process. Typically you will want a potion as well for gem and minerals as they will greatly help your chances of drops (you will need bones for these potions) General tips: ravines will have lots of one type of node (stone or ore) but lots of mobs, keeps will have both types but more spread out and little to no mobs. For the foreman people a good idea is to equip villien exploration disc (don't forget to equip the passive too) as it will reduce the amount of basic tools you need to craft. (That soul also drops from quarrying) Vessel wise: As I understand it, p stones (philosopher's stones) aren't required for vessels but they make vessels a lot better. Also to make the good p stones you will need an emerald tablet, otherwise you can only make p stones with 2 philosopher's solutions, with the tablet you make it with 4 solutions. Which is about a jump from +20 to +40 of a stat. To get the tablet farm boss tier(captain, chief, king) war tribes of r6 and above that are the fae looking ones or the satyr tribe.

    3 Faction Systems Don't Work

Hey Guys, Before you jump down my throat calling me negative, just hear me out. This is an observation across many games, not just Crowfall. To start this out, this is my first full run of a campaign, my first time hitting level cap on multiple characters and my first time really participating in the test in any serious fashion... With that said, I can already see that the 3 faction system in this game, like all games, is failing miserably. One of two things happens... 1) the zerg joins one faction and establishes absolute control over the map and the game is not fun for anybody or 2) population is split pretty evenly between two factions and the last one gets absolutely left in the dust... This has been seen in every 3 faction game I have ever played... DAoC, Planetside, Planetside 2, Guild wars... Are there any mechanics in Crowfall to persuade people into playing the lower pop factions (bonus to xp, loot rewards, crafting bonuses)? When the game releases Dregs, are campaigns going to go the way of the dinosaur? What are your thoughts and how would you address this problem?

    New and have some questions!

Hey guys, I am very interested in this game and have a couple questions which may have been answered elsewhere had I been less stupid. Anyway here's the deal: I'm planning to buy a backer pack in order to play, but I want to know if the servers havr fair population as of right now, or rather enough of a population for me to have fun and stay occupied, hoe often the servers are up, and if this game can keep my attention as a hardcore PvPer who also enjoys the little things in MMOs such as crafting and finding rare lootz. Thank you!

    visual noise: health bar options?

Could make a colored border around the shield that empties downward like this globe. The bordered HP bars we used to use to see barriers were pretty readable without being intrusive and only took a few pixels extra real estate in a practical sense. Take that approach with color coding and some "single crest" options (e.g. "show me only guild" or "only nation/faction") etc. For extra oomph, you could even have the option setting to dynamically adjust crest displays based on parcel state. For instance maybe I want to see guild crests and faction crests in the open world but I only want to see faction crests during a siege or fort fight. You could also dynamically adjust this just based upon players in view range. 5v5 fight? its giving me a lot of data and big HP bars so that I can more cleanly target manage. Giant siege? I don't actually need that much detailed information so shrink down the shileds, use only one, and use the mini border bar so I have a better view of the overall battlefield.

Just echoing a few points Arkade made: 1. The game isn't a complete game and there are some down right frustrating things right now. 2. The main motivation for playing the game is to TEST and learn the systems and mechanics. Playing to win or trying to strictly play for fun is probably going to leave you pretty frustrated. 3. Absolutely 100% FIND A GUILD! This is the most important thing you can do. There are a few Chaos guilds that I know of that are actively recruiting new players but you can always check the guild recruitment forums.

The bow charge speed stat doesn't seem to be modifying the draw speed. Tried using both a quiver crafted with the new belt item as well as a spellbound bow for a total modifier of ~30% and compared it to a recurve bow and normal quiver which should be noticeable.

    Vanguard Minor Discipline Guide!

We in the Vanguard want everyone to improve, and have easily accessible information about the game. With the death of Expansive Mind, Demon's Pact, Fashion Statement and Hand of Glory - we often get asked "Which minors should I go with?". So to help the new players, and refresh the memory of experienced players, we have created a short guide, with the currently available minor disciplines in the game. *Note that we have left out minors such as those who improve songs, and thorns - as we would not recommend them to anyone currently. Enjoy. Remember to click to zoom! _______________________________We are recruiting! Looking for 2x flex players and 1 support player! Check us out here: GUILD THREAD

    Thoughts on Tanks?

Yup, two different interpretations of Todd's spiel is a pretty good way to describe it. It really feels like a very strong case of confirmation bias actually. Fantasy fulfillment does not line up, at least to me, with a goal which has never once been stated or even hinted at by the dev team of "value in every scale of PvP", especially since the linked video had these quotes. That is the polar opposite of "every class should have value in every scale (situation) of PvP". The only way to read it as you have been, is to assume that "situation" is more specific than scale of PvP, which is I think an interpretation that is only going to lead you to continuing disappointment.

    Thoughts on Tanks?

The advice is there... you even quoted it. And minotaur rush isnt hard to hit. You cannot outdps a healer? No single dps can out dps a healer unless the healer sucks. No class is killing a healer 1v1, thats the way it should be. If that was the case then they'd be extremely marginalized. And out DPSing a healer is not a tanks job anyway. It sounds like you are using CC at the wrong time and possibly in the wrong order. Sounds like there are abilities available to your class you do not even know about. Sounds like you think a tanks role is to out dps a healer. Sounds like you cannot hit racial abilities. Sounds like you think a "retaliate buffing disc" is best suited for a tank. L2P wasn't condescending, I think playing this class for a while and learning it will fix all your problems.

    Thoughts on Tanks?

A tank in PvP, when its been viable, in my opinion, has the ability to thwart the enemy plays. He accomplishes through control abilities and physical mass (collision). In order for a tank to be viable in PvP, he'll need to have the ability to 1) present himself as a target and not die quickly if immediately targeted (tankiness) and 2) Be a thorn in the side of enemy plans by controlling, slowing, corralling, CCing, Taunting etc. Where a tank becomes OP is if he is also able to do great damage. Having someone be required to go around a tank is good. Having said tank wreck the backfield is bad. Considering this, I think Pitfighter is in a pretty good place. @Toadwart 1 "regarded as OP" No 2 "other dps class benefit as well" Yes, but classes can easily max out all the important stats and have ability points left over going into secondary and tertiary allocations. A tank gets less AP in his tree, for example, so being able to dump more into STR without capping AP is good for him, because he's got more AP to gain before he caps. I seriously doubt most dps classes need to be rolled higher than blue vessels (given a quality necro and proper gear) to pretty much cap out anything worth capping. 3 "doesnt every class get CC" yes, but not the amount that Pit gets, and not the quality either (blind and suppress are very powerful).

    Thoughts on Tanks?

Pitfighters are fantastic in every situation if played properly. You give up some ability to do raw fast damage, sure, but you gain sustain. Just as it should be. Pitfighters have a sustain that is heavily weighted towards self-healing and barriers - and it doesn't get better than that. Simply high HP or high mitigations (block) are great, but when you cannot recover your HP, you automatically enter the end game every time you start a fight. Pitfighters will benefit from upgraded vessels and gear. Having a greater stat pool helps you recover some of the lost damage stat having chosen a tank over a pure DPS, so its possible you are under-geared and feeling noodly. If you are lacking utility, as you say, you need to rectify that with majors. You can't do anything vs healers? You have a slow, a blind, a spamable knockdown, an ult knockdown, a suppress and likely a racial CC in your base kit alone. L2P My thoughts on tanks is that they need hate generation baked into their promotion tree so they can hold agro in PvE, since thats a thing now. I would also like to see a non-damaging taunt ability off the global cooldown where the tank can cause someone to do less damage unless attacking the tank.

    Thoughts on Tanks?

Tanks are pretty crappy as far as filling any sort of what most people consider to be a "tank" role. No game did the pvp tank better than Warhammer online. I wish Crowfall would use that as the foundation for what tanks can be in this game.

Before 5.100 we were crying about storage space when we had the spirit bank plus up to five chests scattered around the CW. Now we have more stuff, and less room to store it. 100 items doesn't go far if you have no professions. If you're a harvester/craftsmen, you need to bring multiple alt vessels into the CW just to hold your stuff. The functionality included in the vault makes it much friendlier than the world bank; auto stack, sort, filter. Is there any reason not to use the same framework for both, with color schemes being the only functional difference? The 'sort by' could use a few more categories (item types), but for many categories the filter works well enough.

Secondary workaround for Vault blank bug. You have too much stuff in the vault, and too much stuff in the world bank. World bank only works if you have less than 50 items in it. Vault seems to have an issue as well I made a couple throw away toons and emptied vault into them in Gods reach. Holding items in char inventory. Then Dumped Campaign toons world bank into inventory till I had 49 items in the world bank. Then exports worked fine 49 or less items in world Bank, zero items in vault. Export and clean up

5.92.0 LIVE Bug Reports for 6/6/2019

Ok, I think I'm finally getting the question you're asking. Sorry, there have been some changes and more in the works so I'm trying to keep it all straight. I'm going to toss a lot of info at you and hope this clarifies a bit on how to get all 10 exploration disciplines. As far as I know, they aren't actually dropping from NPCs or Mobs, but are in the harvesting loot tables now. Creating an Exploration Discipline: The first requirement is harvesting a rough soulgem. Rough Soul Gems: Drop from ore harvest nodes. Before a player can collect rough soulgems they will need to train within the Exploration skill tree to unlock the ability to harvest these soulgems from Ore Harvest Nodes. After a player polishes a soulgem using the crafting system (under the “Jewelcrafting” category) players can slot that item into a harvest tool to collect exploration souls from harvest nodes. In order to unlock this additive in the recipe players will also need to have the Runemaking Techniques minor discipline equipped, which will then allow an additive slot on the harvest tools recipes to be added. Once that tool has a soul equipped then you can start harvesting exploration souls from harvest nodes, rank 6 and above. The following souls drop from Rank 6+ Stone nodes (Granite, Slate, Travertine, Marble, Limestone) connoisseur villein foreman quarryman The following souls drop from Rank 6+ Ore Nodes (Aurelium, Tin, Copper, etc) villein lookout connoisseur miner The following souls drop from Rank 6+ Skinning nodes (Spider, Elk, Wolf, etc) foreman hoarder lookout skinner The following souls drop from from Rank 6+ Graves (Human, Elven, Monster, etc) lookout survivalist hoarder grave digger The following souls drop from Rank 6+ Trees (Ash, Oak, Birch, etc) logger hoarder survivalist connoisseur Clear as mud? I know I threw a lot of info at you, and I hope this helps answer your question, but if not ping me again and I'll try my best to track that info down. 🙂

    People of Faith

Good Day, I am Fated. Lately.. in my fleeting thoughts... (you know the ones that come and go in the early morning, or when you are standing at your desk at work), I've been thinking about the Cleric. RP story lines, book concepts, short stories, game mechanics, etc. Powerful negotiators, healers, and warriors. Zealotry, Faith, and Fanaticism. Defenders of the weak.. Driven by ethic, dogma, or perhaps spoken to by a god to pursue the life. Cult or Church... life and death. Light and Dark. I've also been watching Crowfall on youtube, General announcements, etc. Synchronicity.. I look for it in life. With the announcement of the Cleric class I decided to take the plunge. I'm happy I did. I like the art style (so far), I have enjoyed playing the different available race / class combinations. I haven't spent an enormous amount of time socializing or deep diving into all the game mechanics (that will come). Potential is the word that comes to mind when I play Crowfall... I am looking forward to 5.3! -Fated
