On test, this vendor has been added to the temple, along with all of the advanced crafting stations, so it will be a little less annoying in the future.

Arkade got a reaction from Kraahk in New Player! Required HELP
There are now vendors on the test server that will buy stuff for gold.
It was something they originally said they wouldn't have, but I guess they decided that it was needed after all.

Arkade got a reaction from ACE_FancyHats in New Player! Required HELP
    1) There are no merchants that will buy stuff. In the future, they plan to enable player run vendors to have buy orders, but there's no intention to have game run NPCs that give you gold for your junk, like in other games. You can, however, sacrifice your junk for XP (depending on your level and the quality of the item).
The vendors that sell resources are there as a fall back, but you really don't want to use them. It's much easier to get resources by harvesting them yourself, particularly now while it is spring and you get harvesting bonuses.
    2) Currently, there are only 2 mounts in the game. The pack pig can be purchased for 900 gold from the vendor. The swift pack pig, which I believe requires the pack pick to make, is a recipe that drops from raid bosses, I think. I wouldn't worry about that right now.
    3) Disciplines are a little bit in flux right now. You can buy some disciplines from the vendors. For the rest, you have to acquire the appropriate soul and soul essences. The exploration souls (for harvesting disciplines like Villein, Lookout, etc.) and soul essences come from harvesting rank 6+ nodes, but you need special harvesting tools to have a chance to get them. In order to craft those special tools, you need the Runemaking Techniques minor discipline. Minor disciplines, other than the ones sold on the vendor, are all drops from war tribe mobs. I think they only drop from Elite and above war tribes. At least, I've never seen one drop from a minion. Group bosses are guaranteed to drop 1 minor. Raid bosses drop more. Captains and Elites can drop them also.
Combat souls (which are used to make combat major disciplines) come from ancient mobs (spiders, wolves, etc.). I think there is a chance for them to drop from regular mobs too, but it's a low chance, and in either case I think the mob has to be rank 6 or higher. In the future, we will have to capture thralls, which will only appear at night, to get these souls.
    4) Whenever you log into God's Reach or a Campaign for the first time, you get a set of starter weapons. If you are switching between the different worlds, you will get a new set each time you switch. If you have extra that you don't need, just destroy them by dragging them out of your inventory.
If you are playing in God's Reach, you will get less gold, resources and item drops. The mobs and resources in God's Reach only go up to rank 5, and mobs have less gold than what you'll find in the campaigns. War tribes mobs in the campaigns drop a decent amount of gold. The tougher the mobs, the more they drop.
I would suggest finding a guild. You aren't going to be able to do everything yourself in this game and the economy isn't robust enough right now that you can buy the stuff you need. Having a support structure where you can pool resources and efforts really helps.

They will announce when the previous rewards have been handed out. I don't think the oak cup has been awarded yet, but I really don't pay that much attention to it. I'm on TEST quite a bit regardless.
No one has been able to get in yet. They will probably extend the deadline since TEST has been down since 5.9 went to LIVE. That's what they did previously. As for when it will be up? No idea, but I would expect some time today so we can test over the weekend.

I don't think that's a fair assumption. Look at how combat started out and where it is now. It takes time. Drop rates have already improved since the first implementation of war tribes. I'm sure they will continue to improve. Again, it's not the design that is the problem, but the balancing of it.
But let's talk specifics here, because just talking about this in general doesn't help them make those changes.
Tools are a problem. Goggles, hammers, etc. There needs to be a more reliable way to get these. The addition of the tools for weapon additives has completely destroyed the hunger shard economy. Not only are the tools way too rare, but they come from the same place the shards do. So anyone who might want to buy hunger shards won't have the tool they need, and anyone who has the tool won't sell it because they are too rare. Without the economy to support it, it becomes a huge grind to get the tools. The same thing happens with the 186 steps book. It's too hard to get. We end up with a bank full of runic recipes and no way to use them.
I feel like disciplines are in a pretty good place right now. At least minors and exploration discs. Majors we'll have to wait and see when they add the thralls. Yes, it can be difficult to get the specific minor discs that you want, but that's where the economy comes into play (or it would, if more people were playing). A solo player can effectively get minor and exploration disciplines, selling the ones they don't need and buying the ones they do. Some of the more popular minor discs can be added to specific mobs with a guaranteed drop to create points of conflict. Maybe the Satyr raid boss always drops Demon's Pact and the Aracoix raid boss always drops Expansive Mind. These are simple tweaks to the system that will make it much better for everyone.
Leveling is in a much better place now too thanks to increased lore drops and increased XP on lore items and sacrifice shards. Of course, they don't help with storage, but that's a different topic. I've got a ton of lore items sitting in the bank. I haven't added it all up, but it's probably more than enough to level an epic vessel to 30. I'll see once I get my vessel.
Small changes. Fix the drop rates on tools, put some guaranteed drops on the toughest mobs and let groups fight over them. It's not complicated.

Again, I'm not saying the numbers don't need tweaking. I'm just trying say that, big picture, it's not as bad as it seems.
Basically, drop rates aren't properly balanced yet. Neither is combat. We'll get there.

These just require balance tweaks. It's not indicative of a systemic issue.
Certain things need to drop more reliably. They have talked about having certain things drop in certain locations to drive PvP.

And that's a fair criticism, but at the same time, it will be somewhat mitigated by having a larger population.
For example, I've gotten 3 runemaking techniques discs from killing elites and captains. One I put on my runemaker, one I'm saving for when I get a new vessel for my runemaker, and the 3rd I will trade for what I need.
Increase the population and let the economy do the work. Sure, maybe some things need to be easier to get, like the goggles, or the tools to apply hunger shards. There are definitely some rough edges. It will get worked out over time.

They are meant to provide points of conflict. If the Urgu raid boss is the only one that drops the goggles, and that boss only spawns at certain times, players will fight over who gets the loot.
In the current implementation, the drops aren't necessarily focused enough and the population isn't large enough to support this type of game play, but that doesn't mean the idea itself is bad.
Everything we do in this game is PvE leading to PvP. Keep sieges are PvE activities. You tear down walls, kill NPC guards and destroy trees. It becomes PvP when the other side shows up to defend it. The same will be true of caravans. All you're doing is grabbing materials and transporting them from one point on the map to another. PvP happens when someone comes along to take those materials from you.
Not only will war tribes provide points of conflict, but they will also provide needed items for the economy. Again, this is a population issue. If more people were playing, there would be more stuff being sold and less need to depend on RNG for a specific item.

No, the thrall skill training doesn't give you anything, currently. That may be changing in the near future though. Most of the other pieces are in place, with people now being able to harvest soul essences and craft disciplines. We just need the thralls themselves to replace the combat soul drops, and the changes to crafting stations to allow us to add thralls to them.
