Based on the language... I would venture a guess that neither the "24/7 servers" nor the "removal of race restrictions" updates are it. They've already said that 24/7 test servers will be coming, so that wouldn't make sense as an announcement of this caliber. The removal of race restrictions would be more likely, since that's a huge change and one that has not yet been even suggested. The initial tease of a strangely-equipped murdeer would seem to support this.
However, I don't think this particular update is going to be either.
I honestly have no idea what it could be.

You mentioned that you miss not knowing anything when you start a game. This is why I (mostly) stopped paying attention to news updates for Crowfall; I already know that I'm going to play the game. I want to experience that sense of learning and exploring. Like you, I had that experience with Star Wars: Galaxies, and rarely since then.

karetyr reacted to Kraahk in What do you plan to do in your EK?
Like i said in your how-do-you-plan-to-play topic, i will focus on building community kingdom(s). Definitely one for the german community (just like planned and developed since kickstarter days), and pretty likely one more for the EU. If it won't work well, i'll may combine those two into one. Otherwise ... we'll see.
My basic concept for the german community kingdom Rabenherz includes a capitol as main trading and socializing hub and four special interest areas.
One stronghold for our roleplayers, an PvP area for training and tournaments, a dedicated harvesting area and the guild lands, where guilds or groups can place their own parcels and strongholds (if they feel too lonely in their own realm - or just for represantational purposes) or rent them (if they haven't had the luck to get one through their packages - or just don't want to bother with all the EK stuff, but want to use a stronghold). The overall scope will be adjusted to the effective demand at the time. Though Rabenherz is designed to support at least 1.000 players, i'll start with a light-version if otherwise the kingdom would feel empty. Who needs empty kingdoms?
Here are some older pictures of the Rabenherz concept, to give you an idea of how it will look like.

I want the Stalker to not suck. I also want it to munch on hearts as its AFK animation. Beyond that, the actual abilities are irrelevant to me

    I think its completely possible.
    Let me explain why.
They opened pandora's box with discipline runes and 100's of new abilities that have to be compatible across up to 13 archetypes. This would drive a default animation design stand-point. You cant use take 100+ animations and reproduce those across 13 archetypes individually, no way, they had to recreate the way to implement generic, universial animations.
Once they have this, the next logical step is to look at the 40-50~ current archetype static powers and ask the question "why cant we convert these to the generic template?"
Obviously, theres some that would be incompatible, which is fine.
Also, its important to note that the root animation being removed from 95% of the abilities opened the options up here as well.

Their wording is important to look at.
This points to either something that is completely new to us, something that was not originally part of the launch build. Or something that did get brought up but at the time was shot down because the current tech they had would make it incompatible with their designs.
If it was something as simple as they are releasing CW next week or something that we know is coming eventually, they would just release it the same way Big World was. So its has to be adding fudge to our vanilla icecream.

Yes, this is what I thought. Maybe they get rid of the archetypes and we get free pickings?

With really basic, unadorned objects, there's still a lot of "character" to pull out. You just have to rely on elements other than the armor itself - light and shadow, texture, and weather are good ways to do that.

For example, here's a guy in a plain black suit with a wolfskin draped around his shoulders. Granted, the skin is a little unusual, but the rest is about as plain as it gets. The image is still visually striking, though, because of how the artist uses shading and highlights.

    First bit of advice: copy.

I'm not saying steal other people's art and claim it as your own. I mean draw copies of other people's art as practice. It builds muscle memory of how to draw certain things, and increases your consistency, which is the mark of a professional artist.

And when you go to draw your own original pieces, feel free to copy parts of other artists' art as parts of yours.

Lastly, remember always this: drawing from real life is the best way to improve generally. It builds your ability to recognize shapes and forms, as well as your understanding of how things fit together and move.

Your enthusiasm makes me happy, cuddles! That is the single most important thing an artist needs.

I'm an artist of sorts also, and glad to give you advice if you want it. Went to art school and all that.

I can't seem to download this version, anyway.

I usually work at 300 or 400dpi, at 8.5" x 11", when I'm doing digital color. I can't think of what that translates to in pixels.

I would LOVE to have a chance to color the lineart when it's done. This is turning out beautifully so far.

karetyr got a reaction from Psycho-Phobic in Stalker, melee weapon?
A greatsword would be possible, based on that concept art, but it doesn't seem to fit the theme of the class.

A rapier or cutlass seems to fit a swashbuckler or pirate archetype better than the Stalker. Stalkers, as they've been described so far, rely on stealth and patience.

The most likely melee weapon I can think of for them, then, would be a dagger or kris or similar. Possibly a short sword. Something that's easy to hide, gets out of the way, and is fast on the draw. Nothing flashy.

Ninja didn't run around wielding great weapons, after all. They relied on poisons, needles, wakizashi, and other easily-concealed weapons.

I'm going to craft the **** out of this game. There's too much Star Wars: Galaxies in my blood to stop me.

Sadly, I can't be a Shipwright. But that's OK. I'll just make the most murder-est daggers in the game.

karetyr reacted to inaliz in My Feedback So Far
    Hey guys,

I've been waiting to post a lot of my feedback until I tested the game thoroughly. After 6-7 test sessions I feel comfortable doing so.

    1. We need a different testing format. I don't feel like The Hunger Dome is a good platform for testing the game really. I would much rather have a 5 vs 5 tdm where everyone had equal gear. Running around trying to ninja loot all the best gear isn't fun or productive test wise for me at least. I mainly spend 4-5 minutes doing this and wandering around. Then you get into some fights briefly and are usually killed by getting jumped on from 3-5 people. Overall I just don't think it's a good way to have us test and I really don't feel like it's fun either. After the last one I did I just really felt like I had no motivation to play more than an hour sadly, just being honest.

    2. Make testing easy. Why not just host up a testing sandbox. Host a castle so that we can test 24/7. Add all of the weapons and armor to various replenishable loot boxes that we can gear out our character however we like. Then enable us to fight each other in duels. That would be a great way to constantly use the game's mechanics and fighting systems so we can provide much more efficient feedback. I know I would hop into a discord and mess with all of the fighting mechanics with other players and be able to give in depth feedback if this was available. Instead of rushing to get gear and hopefully get in some decent fights in hunger dome. And area like this and a TDM mode would be way better. Throw in some test dummies so we can use all our skills on and try out combos.

    3. Everything's getting better. When I started testing I was getting 25-35 fps. There weren't many textures on objects, the animations were super alpha janky and the combat system was really rough. Since then everything I listed has improved a ton and I am impressed with the progress. My frames are now 60 and the animations are way better as well as the game looking good. I personally love the art style.

    4. Melee combat doesn't feel right to me. I've strayed away from playing melee because it just feels very "floaty"? If that makes any sense. It just doesn't feel solid. Also ranged targeting feels strange. I'm not sure exactly what it is but trying to land hits on the ranger is rough on moving targets.

    5. Character combat skills and kits. They just don't feel complex enough or fluid. Take a look at Guild Wars 2's classes and combat, it's pretty complex. This is an example of a modern mmorpg combat system. In comparison Crowfall classes feel very dull to me and over simplified 1-8 basic skills and then the additional combos which really feel out of place at times and unintuitive. We need combat to be really good, fun and snappy. It's like the sauce of a pizza and directly affects all other aspects of the game.

    6. I think the game's user interface needs a lot of work. Of course this is alpha so it's not the biggest focus. It's really not that bad but I feel like it could be improved upon greatly without much being changed. It looks over simplified and cartoony almost like a kids game. I'm kind of nitpicking with this at the moment and it's not the biggest issue I have. Just providing feedback.

I'm really impressed with the way ACE is handling the game so far. if my feedback sounds harsh it's only because I'm passionate about the game. I played Shadowbane for it's entirety and really want this game to be amazing. I haven't had a good experience in any mmorpg since for a prolonged period of time besides Warhammer Online and that didn't last long either. I think that ACE transparency with the game and it's connection to the customer base is awesome. More so than any other game I have tested since World of Warcraft Beta. It really feels like they are watching and paying attention to things.

I will be posting more feedback throughout the testing and will also be making youtube videos about it and streaming every test that I can.
