  1. Ahah ! We are crows, spirits into vessels. You imprison my vessel, I just release the crow. No smashed keyboard.
  2. Throne War yes, as in "It's like Game of Thrones meets EVE Online". In Game of Thrones, the Nightwatch, on its way to mess around with the Free Folk, has to crash at Craster's, beacause they need a warm place where they can eat. I believe that's a part of what "Throne War" means. We can't just wander around mindlessly. At least not under the harsher climates. I've played Minecraft and ARK, yet I've never thought about these as survival games. Recently I've spent a lot of time in The Division, an average game. However its Survival DLC entertained me more than I thought. Shorter but better than the base game. Here, the game mechanics are somewhat good enought to do the job. But put alone, people would have tossed it into the oblivion as fast as it came out. What makes the difference, paired with the game mechanics, is how the snow storm is rendered, the visual (and sound) experience. In Minecraft and ARK, I refill bars. In Survival's The Division, I struggle with a storm. Its all about immersion. Back to Crowfall. If surviving is refilling a chicken wings bar from time to time, we are better off without it. However, if the sound/visual experience is well designed, convincing, Crowfall may succed in what the other so called survival multiplayer game based genre tried but failed at so far. Now consider this scenario. Your guild is stuck in its fort. Outside, the blizzard is raging, the field of view is severely narrowed. It might last 10min or 10 days, real days. The last thing between you and the victory is this other guild, presumably stuck in its fort too. Your scout drew a map leading to them right before the blizzard, so there are high chances they are still at the same place. At this stage of the campain, nobody would risk all the materials gathered to move. It might be the perfect time to catch them by surprise. Maybe you'll have to break a wall in the exterior. With any luck, the blizzard will cover the noise. Or maybe you all can just sneak in. You are waiting, hidden, that someone goes out. Maybe a crafter whom need any material stocked nearby. The door is now opened, that's your chance. You kill him/her, go inside and find your opponents in crafting gear (if there is such thing), or doing whatever task without a proper battlegear. That's how your guild win this 1-3 months long CW. I forget about the food you should bring, or what's is required to break the wall, there are flaw in my scenario, but you get the idea When I talk about survival, it's both the feeling of immersion everyone will get plus a dedicated tree as much important as crafters, fighters and gatherers will be. Now that I'm writing it down, it could even be another link in the "food chain" : Survivalist (guiding the) -> Gatherer -> Crafter -> Fighter. About the food, I just hope we won't have to take care of every 10mins. These kind of needs must be tied to what you're doing. A fighter should need to eat and drink more often than a crafter. I'm saying this as an hardcore solo player. Under such circumstances, I may enjoy playing with others !
  3. Yep, I've noticed some are talking survival stuff here and there quite often without mentioning it explicitly. I have plenty of time right now, I've started to dig through the forum. I'll try to come up with a little more elaborated thread. Thanks for the answers =)
  4. Since I (finally ) have access to the test, my head is clearly overwhelmed with many toughts. Highs expectations over here Most are already discussed. However, I feel, except when it comes to "APPLES !!!" / hunger, there is not much said about the survival aspect of Crowfall. We'll have harsh cold seasons. Will we be able to randomly go out without caring about temperature ? There are campfire, but what about warm cloths ? A dedicated profession and/or the basics to stay warm enought in a survivalist skill tree ? Or maybe the opposite season, with overheat and its need of water and shadow/shelter. There is no map/minimap, but what about drawing some (I think I've already read it somewhere) ? The ability to reproduce or falsify one ? Usefull if you want to trade with or lure someone. Being able to identify edible and poisonous berries/plants ? Finding more than anyone else ? I feel a dedicated "survivalist" should have his/her part in a group when it's time to leave the homebase, especially when you go off the beaten tracks. What are your toughts about a true, viable survivalist skill tree as main ? And in a wider scale, the needs outside the safety in number, in the wilderness ?
  5. Ah ! That's funny, I thought the same thing after I replied on the topic "The gathering life" !
  6. To me, being able to remain in the late phases of CWs as a solo / small group relies on the map size and the survival mechanics more than the classic gathering/crafting/fighting abilities.
  7. Don't forget about the cook ! If the gathering round trip takes that much time, you'll be happy to have a gourmet in your group
  8. "What will be your first profession?" Hmm, let's see... I would say : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIr8u0j08gU I'll harvest harvesters
  9. Is there any chance it's being called "Big World beta test phase" ?
  10. Despite Todd saying "no chat bubbles" in a previous Q&A, that was my expectation too Any MMO where people can hang around together deserve a proper visual chat system. Chat bubbles (+ emotes) help to bring a feel of a living world. Plus, having to switch between flooded chat boxes to see who says what is exausting.
  11. I'm all good about the release date being delayed. I was waiting for such announcement sooner or later. I've never seen any (game) company that transparent, as you mentionned it, that's for a good part what keeps us here. However I think you should give a date, it can give the right amount of pressure some might need (both players and dev team sides ). I'm expecting 1 and a half year for an official release, and I'm all good with that ! Crowfall's idea is solid, keep up the good work =D
  12. Slowfall effects are always a plus in the gameplay ! It adds some 3D strategy, I like it What bothers me the most in this Q&A is about the chat bubbles. I think they are mendatory in an MMO(RPG). It can lighten the chatbox A LOT, as many informations will be tossed in it. And, it might be a personnal issue, I tend to miss when someone speaks to me, right in front of me, but no bubble to gather my attention. I was actually waiting for these bubbles soon, even thought many times about making a thread about D:
  13. I haven't read the entire topic. Anyway, here are my thoughts about healing. Beside "hose healer", what I despise is insta' healing effect with a healing projectile. Youe HPs are low, a healer comes nearby, and no matter the healer's drowback (ignite), you'll see your HPs refilled. I'd like to see 3 things added to the healing situation : - every healing effect should be over time, it just speeds up the remission of your wounds, not making these wanishing in a blink. A.k.a. HoT effect. On EVERY healing effects. - Any healing projectile has to be "neutral". An enemy intercept it ? He gains the healing effect. - Any AoE healing needs to be channeled.
  14. Here we go, one of the archetypes I was waiting since the beginning Tell me there'll be any plan making the druid able to wield a 2 handed mace/axe and you make my day ! Something you'd want to do between healing and ingnition ? Anything as long as I can do it, I'll be happy ! Hybrid archetypes FTW !
  15. As a bloothirsty carebear, I don't really mind being called a griefer, as it can be true, sometimes
  16. No worries, I believe siege vehicles will change. For now, we could see it as [player] taking control of [object]. @Grimulf : The thing in CF is we build the castles, and we can destroy them to the ground Unlike GW2, where you only destroy a wall or a door here and there.
  17. Druid archetype ? My best guess was, since we're now in the Siege Perilous phase and according to the video, a giant slapping vehicle as anti crowd device.
  18. The slapped handset phone plugged into the smartphone killed me xD
  19. Of course sieges engines have to need more than 1 player to fonction properly. The whole Crowfall concept is about PvP + teamplay +POI def/atk, with walls in between sometimes. If a random dude can take a one-man siege vehicle and create the needed breach to the victory, that very concept falls apart. A game in which strategy is put in high estim can't skip the basics. The defender behind his walls has the upper hand. The attacker has roughly 4 options : -cut the def from reinforcements, -overwelming / zerg, -better plan, -better weaponry. A self powered one-man siege weapon is a great plan, easy to maneuver / use, and can toss people away (with significant damages done I assume ?). So let's bring an army of siege weapons and that's it, no more walls in few seconds. You know now how to win most of the game when walls are involved. WoW showed us what NOT to do. Any siege weapon should need more than one player, it needs downsides to counter its power. Or this is a steam machine, and you need your specialized crafter + alot of materials. And a mate to make it work along the way, unless you are a Mickey Mouse in Fantasia alike class whom doesn't need to feed the oven with your hands Btw, a ram which only need one man should be called a stick
  20. Sooooo. IMO, it's a step in the wrong direction. I was saying "Nooo... No no no no !" with a D: face in front of my screen. To be a little more specific, and constructive : They are literally a c/c of WoW's siege vehicles. Even the targetting path reticle thing (don't know how it is called in english ^^ ) is the same. To me, a siege weapon/vehicle like this one should need at least 2 players for it to move. More players for more speed. Like a really heavy machinery pushed from behind / both sides by hand and/or some kind of kinetic magic for casters. Plus one driver for it to turn and shoot. With each "pusher" able to use a shield and deflect damages thrown at the vehicle. With this, a siege battle would requiert players to actually work together, instead of most of them waiting for one guy to bring it and explode a wall (saw it many, MANY times in WoW). Now, I know we are still in pre-alpha. It's just that I prefer to tell what's seems wrong to me right now
  21. I don't mind some RNG involved in crafting, as long as any highly trained crafter reduces probabilities of critical faillure, i.e. obtaining 500 Str on a weapon when the fork is 490-800. It could be interesting to bring danger to crafters. Or actually the opposite; bring crafters into danger. Will they/we pull out the best items from a cosy warm forge house ? What about Points of Interests that benefits to crafts ? A top of a mountain with its eternal snow grants to the final product an extra +frost dmg/resist. So you need to wander outside of the comfort zone. Your customer may follow and protect you, just to be sure you make it without trouble. Or you're a renowned crafter, the job is always done, you just need an order. Or the bloodstone tree gives any item built next to it +vampirism on a weapon ? As the primary objective, that tree is well guarded. But not by your guildmates. Pay the tax fee or craft elsewhere ! Maybe you're not a crafter att all and want to get in, as a trojan horse, and help your allies to land your hands on the tree If such POIs are not available every time/campains, it could add value to items with specific bonus. It also relies on the decay system. Hmm. Can't help myself here, need to make suggestions, sorry
  22. I would say you state the obvious, which is still a good reminder when talks grows a high flame-o-meter. After "only" one year on the CF forum / game development, some feels that burnout effect. Too much waiting time. A game take approx. 3 years (5~ years for a console game */free taunt* ) to be properly made I think ? So yea', untill... soon actually (Siege perilous), some people needs to talk about what will be IG other than combat. 'Cuz it won't be a somewhat enhanced eroic-fantasy version of Planetside 2. So let's keep talking, ACE has a vision, they will sort well enought what has been and will be said =D
  23. Achiever 53% Explorer 47% Griefer 67% Socializer 33% Yep. That old "black and white all at once" thing again
