Someone needs to create a Hunger Games/Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome mashup to promote this.

Waikikamukau got a reaction from courant101 in Campaign Names?
I like the idea of naming a campaign after the winner emerges.  Like the American Civil War Battle of Bull Run (North name for it) vs. the Battle of Manassas (South name for it).  It's almost always referred to as the Battle of Bull run in the history books because they are written by the victor.

I can see it now:  Campaign of Asskickery by Goonswarm.

Because there are some that don't know.  There are some that haven't been part of an alpha or beta test.  There are some whose online gaming experience started with WoW or after.

    Not everyone has your experience.

There's been a lot of talk about 'bad quality testers' providing less than helpful feedback on the combat system.

I would be worried less about the 'bad quality testers' and more worried about Gordon and J. Todd taking their words for it early.  I mean seriously, the pre-alpha group is under 1000 people I believe.  Would you really expect a knee-jerk change based on a tiny subset of a small subset to begin with?  I wouldn't.

I'm not afraid of 'bad quality testers'.  I'm not afraid of Gordon and J. Todd jumping to appease an initial group.  I expect them to look at it with an objective eye and maybe (big maybe) consider modifying the system 6+ months down the road if the trend shows a significant portion of the testers think it needs a tweek.

In that case, the hardcore, twitch-based crowd would prove to be a minority and would either accept it and stay or move on.  They've said it numerous times: they're not making a game for everyone.

Same token, if the complainers about the ranged targeting system are a minority and it doesn't change, then they are the ones with a decision to make.  Stay and work with it or move on.

Bottom line: We haven't even experienced the current incarnation of the system.  We'll have to wait, try it and then give our feedback.

The support icon to me looks like a Rubik's cube with missing areas.  To my mind this means support characters fill in missing gaps that are left by other roles.

My chosen main (Duelist) is a Specialist class with the specific ability to burrow.  I'm hoping *fingers crossed* that means he'll be able to modify the environs to favor his side.  Digging tunnels, pit traps and the like would make this class super fun as I'm more of a tactical engagement kinda guy rather than a....Leeroy Jenkins.

Same! I'm in the Duelist camp as well, and really want the ability to design trenches, traps, and tunnels.

I guess it is just a matter of interpretation. I thought of the Support icon as building blocks where the support came from providing your side with cover and the like, while Duelist's burrowing would be a sort of controlled destruction rather than mass destruction caused by, let's say, the Confessor's Meteor Purge.

This is big reason I usually have alts.  Play different classes so you are intimately aware of how things work and you'll know your enemies inside out.

    A step ahead isn't a plan.

Three steps ahead, meeting your enemy's move before he makes it.

    That's a plan.

    Yomi....

It's an interesting concept and one that is a fantastic to apply to a wide range of subjects.  What is not included in this definition is everything that it takes to "see into the mind of your opponent".  When we talk about a PvP MMO, people very often believe that PvP is action and reaction.  What they do, you have to react to.  This is where a lot of the "OMG THIS BETTER BE SUPER TWITCH HARDCORE OR ITS A WUSSY GAME!" comes from.  They want to get out there and wreck faces and prove their superiority.

It doesn't take a fantastic PvP'er to be successful, if they can predict what their opponents will do.  They can then use politics, environment, espionage against their opponents to wear them down and destroy them.  This is an important cornerstone that many people are hungry for and of course, fantastic PvP'ers can also be skilled at "foreknowledge".

Yomi, however, can be applied to game design and accounts for the failure of many many MMO's.  The design team is not able to see what their opponent, "Their subscribers", are going to do or how they are going to react.  We've seen the blunders, time and time again.  This all ties in together that to truly understand your opponent, you need to become as much like your opponent as you can so that you can work to see the world and what you are doing through THEIR eyes.  What usually has happened is that teams have guarded themselves so tightly away from the community that they become unable to see what the community needs or wants.  The more stabs in the dark at solutions that they make, the worse they will wear out their reputation.
