We should see some change in the next few updates.
The advent of crafting stations in 5.4 will mean those folks who have no real interest in crafting will only be making basic/intermediate recipes. This will filter out players who have no skills trained in crafting and really don't want to be crafting anyways. (By the time a player unlocks the advanced recipes, they should have some skills trained)
Assembly failures will no longer consume the item, but instead grant an unexperimentable template of that item. Won't be the most useful (maybe in a pinch), but they will be useful in another system we have coming online soon.

ACE, if you are not familiar with these issues, I hope you are paying attention. These are examples of the opposite of fun.

Or we could go with I have had 5 weeks in 5.3 and action harvesting.

I still do not like how gathering in Crowfall makes me feel.  It is an unfun grind. A chore. With ACTION HARVESTING!. Bang.! Pow!
Weak points let you break the node slightly faster.  Yay!. You still get poorly made socks returns. 100+ nodes to get the mats to make something harder to make. At least 15-20 seconds per node. In a war zone.  While going through 4-5 tools. All which require their own mats.
To gather up 480+ pieces to make a poorly made socks statted peice of gear.  That takes an hour to make, and 10 deaths no matter how much durability you roll amazing on will still destroy that poorly made socks piece of gear.

If the doing of all these things are not fun you end up with an unfun game. The base that you have built for your game, the foundation that it all rest on, is unfun.
    A chore.
    Poorly tuned.
    A time waster.
    Great idea, poor implementation.
    a logistical nightmare.
    Bad.

I am sure I can come up with some more ways to describe it.  But I tihnk you get the idea.

Listen to the people who play your game.

Thanks guys; great to hear from Gordon again.  Thank you for your hard work.
However, one troubling thing that sort of shot into my brain while watching this was regarding hunger/food.  I am still concerned that hunger/food/chicken ticker will not be a strategic thing that runs in the background but instead be a very present, fussy mechanic (I am rooting for the former!!!).   I am afraid that, potentially, content might be generated upon the fiddle, such as disciplines that allow you to go longer without food, etc. (I believe there was/is a racial like this now).
This is problematic because it may come to a situation in which we will be forced to chose between a fun discipline that gives us a neat ability, useful combat passive, OR a hunger resistance discipline.  That's not really much of a choice, because you are basically saying, "You know that mechanic that you really hate--the one that causes you to lose combat effectiveness after sprinting?  Well, you can avoid it, but to do so your going to have give up this fun thing that you really like."
I don't mean to be overly negative about this, but I see the food/hunger mechanic as something that could enhance CF, OR potentially make the less fun (for these reasons and all the reasons in about a dozen other threads).
  5. Thanks

This is a bad idea and a lot of it seems to have been brought on by the complaints of a couple guilds early on in development.
The game needs full friendly fire and there is definitely time to add it, at least for the most hardcore setting.  They can always have scaling immunities for other settings.

Much faith restored. I have a man crush on Gordon and his answers about delivering a game that was finished were very reassuring.
Blaire, stop filtering Gordon. Everything he says is correct, they are dumb and that effer needs to get back to work. I know Gordon wasn't the one who put this stupid filter in this forum.
This transparency and dedication to this project is why I follow this game. I have never interacted with a game forum pre or post launch to this extent. Take as long as you want, just produce a game that is fun and that you are happy with. I may often be critical and that is because I care about this project, it is how I show it.
Only negative - You dodged the Friendly Fire question. Friendly Fire is essential to curb Zergs. Please give it to us in Dregs.

So I experienced my first large scale battle, defending The Black Mire keep (Love the names for those parcels btw) from the hoards of Order; holy poorly made socks was that super fun. I encountered a few annoying bugs during combat, and unfortunately I didn't capture them. Here they are:
During combat was getting stuck on the ground in Black Mire, would try running towards/away from enemies and would get stuck on the ground. Didn't seem like there were any skills stopping me from moving, but it was damn hectic so I could be wrong. As I'm sure many have stated, Local chests, and also  the POI chests weren't working.  POI chests, mainly timber, would not let me add any timber to my inventory. I would drag it over, and place it in my inventory but it would snap back to its respective chest. Again I'm sure many mention it, but CC is just insane at the current time. I'd lower it all by at least 25%-50%. I just tried logging into an EK I created during 5.3.0 and as soon as it wakes up, and I click enter it just states "Connection Lost". I know that's not much, but I'll edit my post as I recall more. I do have a few great things to say though:
This feels like progress, the game is coming together and I'm all giddy inside to have the Day/Night cycle; and all the other toys you have in store for us. Combat feels the best it's felt since Hunger Dome. I didn't drop below 15FPS during combat and my rig is slightly Aged. (I5 2500K@ 4.2GHz, 16GB DDR3, 970GTX) The game already LOOKS good, I dig the visuals and nothing seems out of place. The models and animations are very nice. The game is FUN, like...really really fun. That siege against The Black Mire was absolutely amazing. All I had was basic gear too, so I need to get some Mats =) A few things I hope to see soon:
Mounts.... the map is getting to be a size where running everywhere is getting tedious. I honestly would've played longer tonight if I hadn't died and spawned at Beachhead. Day/Night cycle, this is going to be super awesome and will add a lot of depth to the current Big World campaign setting.  Thralls, and factories; will be a huge part in keeping our guilds stockpiled, with the weapons and armor they need to dominate. Super pumped to see this implemented. All in all, I understand you're all working your asses off to get these things to us as quickly as possible. I really appreciate the hard work and dedication to the project ACE has, and I'm super excited for the things to come. Keep kicking ass ya'll.

I actually do know – but it's confidential.
But you can draw the conclusion yourself, that their push for the race / class split means, that they were successful to acquire a significant amount of additional funding.
Obviously the more funding they get, the more time they can spend developing the game, or in other words: delay the launch.

Ladies and gentlemen, once again we see how gas expands to fill a vacuum.  (but it's not a bad thing!)
The real story here is Burn Rate.
The banner at the top of the website - the utmost place of honor - tells the story:  TOTAL FUNDING: $13,731,555
As I understand, this is about $10M more than ACE anticipated they would be able to raise!  This is great news!  It means we get about 4x the features and polish before the coffers run dry.  The original budget was ~1 year and ~$3M (KS + investment).  The extra money lets ACE hire more (and better) staff, extend their deadline, and add more amazing features.
You can make some estimates about how much ACE is spending per month (salaries, leased space, software licenses, cloud services, etc.) and make some SWAGs about how long they can invest pre-launch.  My estimate, based on the really bad wages I've seen for game developers, is that they are burning $4M-$5M per year.  I hope it's lower than that, but good employees are expen$ive!
If my estimate is close, that means they've got about 1 more year before it gets painful.  Then, it's launch or die.  If real money starts streaming in (we're talking about $500k per month), everyone celebrates!  ACE doesn't fire people!  We get a game full of awesomeness!  The investors are happy!
I hope we see that day.  And then I hope that the post-release features just keep making Crowfall better and better.

Now you're just interjecting facts, business acumen, and common sense into the conversation. And we can't let that discompose the rampant speculation and endless victimization narrative.
I will make my decision about Crowfall 30 days after launch. Whenever that may be.
Right now I have a couple hundred bucks invested into this particular game, I have made some good friends, and I have some excellent rivals. I estimate that I have easily spent over 500 hours playing Pre-Alpha at less than a dollar per hour entertainment value, and somehow I have the 'feelz' like I could sit down and share a meal and conversation with the Dev Team.
Compared to some other pre-released games I have paid for... Crowfall has already been a return on investment.

Hopefully this will shut certain people up on these forums about launch dates and taking things said by ACE about timelines so serious and literal. Nothing in a product's design and development is ever stuck on a specific time frame schedule. It's done when it's done.
It's just so silly and waste of energy complaining about how long it takes for a product to be designed and developed.
    Good on ACE for this!

Despite this post holding negative information, it is one of your best. This is what we wanted and we appreciate you addressing it. We all knew that dates were slipping and there was no mystery there. The mystery was, would you attempt to push out your product way too early or would you hold your project till it is in a more complete state.
I think most of us here prefer the latter. We know Crowfall will fail if released early and we were hoping you were on the same page. Looks like you are and thanks again for the update.

That said, I am falling asleep here listening.  We could use more interesting anecdotes and less reading the bulleted list.  What is the intent of this stream?  To show that work is getting done?  This is literally as boring as my daily standup at work.  This doesn't appear to be building hype or building community in any significant way.

When/if we add tomes after launch (and I suspect that we will, because we do need a catch-up mechanic for late arrivals) we'll put a gate in place to keep people from abusing it.  My current plan is to add a global max # of minutes since launch that players can't exceed; in effect, a new player won't be able to use Tomes to gain more total minutes than a standard VIP player who started on launch day.
