Which is sort of the thing. Choosing how many points to put in damage and how many to use on survival/movement is interesting. Figuring out the best way to spend your damage points is rarely interesting because it is the part that is most easily calculated.

There is also an issue where abilities you use in a town/safe area can't really be a choice against abilities you use in the field. Make two accounts and have two separate characters.

I'm going to completely disagree based solely on crit chance being an option. That tells me there will be generic flat damage buffs on the tree. And that tells me that a spreadsheet can be used to calculate the best option.

Everyone should repeat this mantra "Its not a choice if a spreadsheet can tell me what to do."

Is movement speed better than stealth? Or are both crap compared to a dodge roll with iframes? Those are hard questions that would generate endless debate on the forum. Is 5 DPS better than 6DPS? Well, do we need our intelligence insulted by pretending that's even a question?

Everything you just said applies equally well to this uncapped system. Just add "in this order" to "take these skills". If the tree creates actual diversity it has zero to do with the lack of a cap.

This honestly doesn't look interesting at all. Feel free to convince me otherwise but all you're showing is a tree where you can pick everything. So already no long term choices unless you're going to neuter new players who start after launch. But the abilities aren't even interesting unless you picked the least exciting thing to show off for some reason.

Its hard to say much about the design without a proper in depth look at it. But I can say that this is the most underwhelming teaser you've done yet.

I totally will, they have some neat ideas. Not sure how they'll go with Uncle Bob though.

Best case they both succeed and developers realise they can make a successful MMO without copying WoW.

Realistically that'd just mean a decade of CU and CF clones.

When combo abilities are used, their cooldown isn't properly showed anywhere.

I often find myself using the same combo twice only realizing that I can't really use one of the skills because they're on CD and there's no indication of it.
Adding CD on "popups" skill icons would be really helpful.

The fact that leaves don't turn transparent when they are between you and the camera is really annoying.

The most interesting thing about the announcement isn't the announcement. Its the people who think the (virtualised) physical form is what makes the character. Pity we're all too old to see RL mind uploading, the bunfights will be epic.

This is the whole point of the design though. With the separate campaigns and rings ACE designed the game from the ground up to let them appeal to ultra tryhard PvP fanatics and carebears RvR fans. It shouldn't be a suprise at all that the EK is a safe zone, thats the purpose. You can't escape consequences by heading there though, while you're not defending your stuff someone else will be taking it. Its no more relevant to the equation than claiming a log out button makes the game not hardcore enough.

Watching videos is a waste of time when two paragraphs and a diagram would convey the same info in a third the time.

I think its the other way around. ACE decided they were using stylized graphics because its the only way to make a game this expansive with a small budget. Then they went looking for engines that could work well for that.

It looks to me like there are 5 tiers and three training priorities for passive training.
The XP curve steepens logarithmically until it plateaus at level 10. Maybe we can actively train a skill to proficiency (10th level)

    From the FAQ:
This is the intended timing that ACE will accomplish with the system we see in the video. Hopefully this is the time for tier 5 skills.
If there are 20 skills relevant to your toon's build mastering his chosen niche, it will take 12 months to max these skills by passive training.
If active training to unlock each skill can be accomplished quickly, it may help us train up a bit faster also.
The sample Knight's skill tree in the diagram below shows 16 skills unlocked, with 6 more locked (one of the 6 is blank). If they are all prerequisites to promotion, even if we only have to get those skills to 50% in order to unlock succeeding skills on the tree, we're looking at a pretty long time before we can promote.
Surely there are at least half that many more skills after promotion and picking discipline runes.

I just don't want new players a year or 2 from release to be daunted by very long training curves, or existing players afraid to try new archetypes or builds.
