Glad to hear about the progress. A week ago i logged in to test after ~half a year, and
Significant update to player movement and responsiveness is still the most desired and important improvement for my taste (including skills and combat). I have faith you'll get it fluid eventually.

Makes all the sense. It's like someone takes a dump on the floor in the room you're in and then you're telling me to "just go in a different room". Na-ah mate.

Besides it also depends on whether the global chat can be turned off at all. Most games that use such consumables don't have that option

    That's exactly what Crowfall needs!

So loaded people can constantly blabber the utmost random unintelligent thing that pops in their goldfish head and every single player has to read their drama while they wanna obtain the 'i'm so cool i can waste chat consumables'. social status. Thanks, I'll pass on that system. I'm up for everyone or no one on global chat, preferably the latter.

And give us VOIP in dregs.

If that was a reply to my comment (sup quote function), then excuse me if i dislike teenage drama or e-peen battle popups on my chat bar without an option to hide it.
Again, i'm up for either all global chat with an option to hide it, or zero global chat. Or maybe even a message board you have to visit and read/post notes. Consumable global chat route gives advantage to already snowballing traders / crafters as well, and it's a cheesy old f2p game system to milk some bucks. Then again, this game is not about fairness.

Just make the combat top socks and release when it's done. The only way to go and to actually keep players at all.

Navtyr reacted to macavity in How are you enjoying combat in it's current state?
I voted donkey balls simply because it's "action combat" yet it's slow as custard with long animations, cast/channel times, roots, etc.

It doesn't even feel like action combat. The way combat is paced right now it would probably have been better off being tab-target honestly.

In addition to that it feels like the majority of abilities are pretty bland and uninspired like as if they looked at MOBA's and decided to take the most boring spells they could find. Why are all the abilities so goddamn boring? Where's the class diversity? Where's the class-based iconic abilities? Where's the wow factor?

We're at a point with the combat where it's neither real twitchy action combat nor slow-ish tactical/strategy/rotation-based combat. We're somewhere in between and I have no idea how it ended up like this. It seems like a no-brainer that you would go with either of the "extremes" instead of going the middleway of trying to combine them.

The feedback also feels pretty non-existant. When you hit something, you don't feel like you actually hit. I think a huge part of this is sound related feedback, which I know is coming, so I won't complain too much about that.

Also, the combo system gets a big fat "meh" from me. I honestly wouldn't mind if it was removed and replaced with some other system where we could make our own combos out of pre-existing spells instead of the system we have now where things are locked behind combos and you're forced to sit through 2 initial attacks that you don't even want to use just to "unlock" the last attack. It feels really bad to not be able to use the tools at your disposal because they are locked behind other attacks.

When it comes down to the final judgment of how the alpha is overall, I'd say it's sort of okay, I guess. Can it be saved? Definitely. The basic foundation is sort of there, it's just up to ArtCraft to change their mentality on some things like animation speeds, rooting, movement, pacing, and it will feel MUCH better.

Then after that bring in some more variety in regards to fun and entertaining spells/abilities/classes. Then finally bring in more meaningful CC, buffs, counters, etc. and we'll be good.

However, if ArtCraft continues to be stubborn and combat doesn't change heavily within the next couple of months then it's gonna be bad. People outside of these forums have already started comparing videos of gameplay from 7-8 months ago and videos from 1-2 week ago saying that there doesn't appear to be much difference. I'd hate for the public opinion to ruin Crowfall before it's even released.

Edit: I forgot to mention that it also seems like ArtCraft is trying their hardest to reinvent the wheel here with every single system just because they can. I don't know why they absolutely need all these things like physics, voxels, parcel building, projectiles colliding, etc. when it's not even needed meanwhile the combat is pretty meh. Surely the combat would be the most important step to get right before messing with these other things.

There are two deadlines i'm referring to actually, the first being the estimated release date of "end of 2016" for core module release. The second being the realistic, we have to pay our developers with real life money, type deadline. Money is not infinite in this project and as much as you might not like to believe so, they will have to hold back a considerable portion of their collected funds to pay for the upkeep and maintenance of the game once it launches.

You can't rely on potential box sales at launch to cover the server and support costs necessary to cover the existing 20,000 or so backers. We are talking a substantial amount of money.

Subtract from that reserve amount, the cost to pay a considerable staff size, benefits, and plan out how you are going to repay the investors (included in that $6million pool at the top of their website I might add) and you have an uphill battle.

Point being, time is a finite resource and this whole "experiment" doesn't feel necessary in any meaningful way. How about "experimenting" with combat and movement that isn't archaic.

I don't really see why this merits a post, seems like minor tech. Its another layer of RNG, wonderful.

I think what bothers me the most is the use of the word "Experiments" in a game that is on a deadline being paid for by backer dollars. While some might consider the entire enterprise that is Crowfall to be an experiment, the notion that you are deviating from the core vision to "experiment" gives me vibes that you guys are wasting time/money on non-essential items.

Considering how much remains to be done with this game, this feels like a needless dalliance into the unnecessary.
