  1. Will progress from the betas at any tier forward be kept for when the game releases or will all progress be swiped from the servers before the game releases? I would just like to know if there is a certain alpha or beta tier that from then on progress is kept.

    1. Agree 2-3. This I'm not sure about just because this game will be different for example in the tournament system two top guilds are competing in a campaign one is slighty smaller than the other lets say 100-90 people wise who knows what the caps will be for this game. The smaller guild can use some more blood for the fight I read somewhere that a higher lvl player will only be able to defeat a small group of lower lvl players 1-3 at max. I have a feeling it will be similiar skill wise and therefore numbers are important but most likely not decisive.(This won't happen all the time but just an example of top guild needing some mercs possibly) 4. Agreed although with the design of this game if a good merc system is in place it might have a bigger market than expected 5. Agreed the system I proposed is for individual mercs though not bands. Although bands could exsist they most likely would be used much less often then just hiring a couple of players. 6. You can contact those looking for merc through the some kind of posting that has their requirements but I think posting that your up for hire with stats of your performance will help alot in this case allowing people to find either mercs or guilds that are compatible with each other. 7-8. Agreed for pretty much any game out there at the moment for mercs. But I think it can be different if done right. You have to make it a viable system and put in a game where it can be usefull or I agree with pretty much everything you've said. You actually might be able to make some money in this game doing it but it will mostly be for fun and independance.

Because if the system is actually used and applied correctly you would not be viewed as an permanent ally of guild you are mercing for but a temporary ally in that fight. For example in the system I proposed if you take on a contract the guild tags and some kind of symbol showing you are a mercenary will be visible. This would only occur for that campaign once the campaign expires you revert back to your guild tags or no tags at all if you not affialiated. You participated in that for the rewards promised for your service. The definiton of a mercenary 1. One who serves or works merely for monetary gain; a hireling. 2. A professional soldier hired for service in a foreign army. Once the jobs done the guild is merely another employer who might hire you on again but especially if you did a good job. Of course you could have made freinds in the guild during the time spent there and might even end up joining the guild it happens but you work for whoever hires you most of the time not having a person stake in the campaign but in doing your best to increase your merc reputation by word of mouth and in the system I suggested also by stats to back it up.

Exactly my point if it is purely social and not helped along by a system it will either be used very little or not at all.

The mercs will be the homeless and those who want to earn money(they can come from any guild but for that fight they fight for someone elses guild) by supporting a fight that is not there's but that someone really wants to win.

Thats not what I said, I said people will probably know of 100 mercs(and thats a stretch) past that mark you get into the territory of needing a merc and all of those being in use what do you blindly hire someone after a quick chat. What if you are a smaller guild and all the mercs you've heard of are hired this isn't just the top 100 who you could not even afford. If it is just a social system it will be a small system only used by a few becasue you will be shooting in the dark.

This would be a fine way of implementing it but I think the system should collect data on performance also, so your not just taking the mercs word for it and you don't need to know every merc in the game to know that he can accomplish something.

Its true the system might get some abuse but that's for any system ever created. There will always be pros and cons. But it can't be broken the way you suggest due to the system also collecting data on how the merc performs during a campaign so if the guy is a troll or doesnt help his in game performance will be shown and thus his ranking low. The reviews are just a supplement and can be helpful. I can break your social only system right now so there is a merc he is great freinds with a guild a rival guild is fighting that guild he decides it is worth somehow betraying the guild he is hired to help. Boom he has decided his reputation is not worth his freindship with the guild or he is being paid more hes a merc hes about the money. Of course there will be mercs who value their reputation above all else but thats not the case for everyone.

I see your point I just don't think it will work mercs will just be used few and far between. If you want social it will come in the form of the best guilds or ones who want to make their money work for them communicating with their mercs and using them to full effect. You still need to communicate and hey why not add in short reviews for the merc and a communication button so you can contact the merc in game you are thinking about. You can still make it social if thats what your aiming for it just needs more efficiency.

This is true and works to some extent but if there are many campaigns going on at once it will be hard for any guild to keep track of whos good and whos not. Also if you make a system less time consuming(not doing it all out of game and off the books) the system will be used much more and I believe will make the game more fun for mercs and guilds who don't want to spend alot of time finding good mercs(of course as I said you can still search for them out of system if you want). Truly with the game already tracking progress for campaign rewards for individuals at the end of every campaign I would think expanding it a bit more to allow for merc performance would not be a big deal. Basically the best merc indivduals(maybe 100 I think thats a strech) will be well known and used and everyone else will get lowball payments even though they might be average or even good and worth more than they are payed. If you can name more than 20 people(naming the top 20 players also does not work because they might not do merc work) off the top of your head who are not in your guild and you have never played with before but heard about in a game thats pretty good but most people can't do that and there in lies the problem. Edit: I thought I should also add in here what if all the well known mercenaries are hired(in a campaign that takes a long time) how do you decide on what to pay the lesser known ones whos worth has now just gone up but you know nothing about them, they might now get top dollar because they are best ones still available for hire. Truly a system would be a big help. It's true you can do it without an NPC but it is extremely inefficient and therefore lots of people will not participate. In my opinion lots of people participating in mercenary work would make the game that much more fun. Also I never suggested an NPC but of course it can be done that way or be an official crowfall website or even just a tab in the games menu system. Also as I said above including it in a system allows the rules of a campaign to either have mercs turned on or off providing an interesting dynamic.

Forgive me for I did not use the Search lol. I'll go take a look at those topics and it's probably been disscussed. But if its run by the players and not a system you won't be able to see performance and it will be much harder for solo mercenaries to find jobs that fit their skills(it will expand how many people willing to participate being a merc too), sure the top top players might be known but the lessers will not. Having a system will allow everyone to take part easily without having to invest to much time into it(finding a fit). Although player forums and websites would be great and supplement it. Plus having it in system would allow campaigns to either allow mercs or dissallow them. I'll probably end up posting this in one of those threads.
