Although I agree with pets being in the game this statement is not completely accurate as rangers in DAoC did not have pets; however scouts/druids and one other class i cant remember the name did.

Also following the material for a ranger they are known for a lot of different things and beast mastery only being one of them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranger_%28character_class%29

Think of rangers as being the base study as you branch out into further specialization one of those could be beast mastery, tracker, scout, etc. As with science, i could be considered a scientist by many but in my field of study i am a geologist, chemist, etc.

That might be your point of view, however with a stay command they can be used as a decent trap as well. Just because the animal is visible doesn't mean that you are. I used to do the same thing in WoW for CTF. My wolf remained visible on the main floor in front of the flag while i was shadowed on the top floor, granted this doesnt work anymore as pets can no longer be made aggressive which would unstealth would be rogues/druids.

IMO pets will either add something to the game play or be pointless to it. All that will be determined by implementation.

Ahh thanks for the clarification. I just don't get how this helps mutli account users though if they aren't actively playing each character.

Yes, in which there are games that don't use this asinine system to limit warfare. Being more so that this is a PvP game really makes this worse. You lack the element of PvE other than killing random mobs out in the field. With all the complaining on these forums about EKs this system just cements the issue further. Yes, i know if i don't like it i can go play one of the other games that don't use the system. I will still keep an eye on this game but if battles center around time frames like Aion did then i will take my money elsewhere, i know my measly amount of money doesn't matter in the thick of things but i am not the only person to hate this type of system.

Love how this thread http://community.crowfall.com/index.php?/topic/6795-what-attracted-you-to-the-game/ starts and some contradict what they stated in this thread. Might want to make those statements of "play driven gameplay" and "play to crush" comments with the added "at your convenience".  Just priceless

You should be relying on alliances to help defend. Just because you aren't awake at 3am doesn't mean there are not others within your faction that are sleeping as well. I don't understand why some people feel the need to use this argument. So all you are telling me is that if i want to have full experience of the game i will have to play on oceanic servers (if they have them) in order to see sieges or only play on the weekends during the set perimeters. You don't hear me complaining that if i take a castle at 3am some group of players takes it back at 3pm.

Luckily after re-reading the information so far given this will not be a ruleset that takes place on every campaign.

Oh my goodness, come on you PvP'ers, whats the matter? If you want to be able to gank at will, loot resources/inventory items lets truly have that.

All POI's Campaign World wide is open to attack 24/7. Just as pvp is open 24/7 so should the POI's and any other resource or commodity, or structure.

If you want WoO for POI's to be open only a certain times, then have pvp open those same times.

What a bunch of hypocrites. You want to run around in groups and gank some resource gathers and loot their body, yet boo hoo, I don't want anyone to attack my stuff when I'm asleep.

Just think, some guild takes your POI during the night and have been busy with caravans to get resources back their bank because they know as soon as you can you will take the POI back so they need to get what they can while they can, just as you will once you retake the POI.

How can you argue pvp 24/7 and shy away from POI's not be open to attack 24/7.

Yes, players can trade the limited amount of basic resources they might obtain from their EK. Although I doubt many will trade unique items that come from campaigns for basic materials they can get themselves within their own EK. Also there is no auction house, which means trading those basic materials will be rather difficult until someone turns their EK into a grand market hub. To turn someones EK into grand market hub will take time.

I am neither for or against your idea, i would just prefer you to post accurate information as EK resources will not be indefinite.

Agreed, that was the main reason I stopped playing Aion. Being on shift work left me with only the weekend to have keep battles which where lack luster to begin with. I never really understood WoO mechanics, they make no sense to me. To me its kind of immersion breaking as with Aion there was some unnatural barrier that only comes down once in awhile to allow for battles.

    Does it? How so?

So allowing you to prepare for a fight that is ultimetly decided by skill, that's good and totally doesn't allow a big zerg guild to plow through you somehow?

But allowing bigger guilds to have to constantly defend all day from attacks is not cool?

So let me give you a for instance that a big zerg can totally plow through you in your bane example:

I bane you, send half my dudes to attack you, which keeps you occupied, than grab all your POI's, any and all possible resources, and bring them back to my stuff, while you're still busy.

Similarly, I know you are about to bane me, and because I feel generous, lets assume you win. I know this going in, so I grab all my stuff that we have accrued/vp/items/resources, and have someone caravan them at the edge of the map where you won't look. I can also hand it off to my friends in another keep/allies/shell guild, and now those resources are super secure.

I knew it going in that you would attack, and so I have now secured anything I care about, and your win is worth epeen at best. You can try to go for my caravan, but then you waste precious bane time, and I might not always caravan.

tldr: As a smaller guild, you can reliably defend for 1-2 hours, large guilds will need to constantly defend for longer hours every day, to keep their stuff.

    Both sides have merit

The Defenders choose the time side: is correct that mandating everyone to play by 24/7 rules is not fun, and you will lose subscribers quickly.

The 24/7 side: is correct that there is less risk if all you need to worry about is 3 hour battles every couple of days [if that], allowing anyone not being baned to not have to make hard choices.

From a Micro level, the defenders side is right, it's very tactical in these special bane events, there's a lot going on, and there are clear and present tactical considerations that happen in split seconds

From a Macro level the 24/7 is right, at the end of it all, there isn't anything inherently different from one keep battle to the next, they would generally be fought in the same manner, with slight differences based on player skill. There aren't hard choices, and besides those few key events, there isn't too much of a logistical, or strategic problem.

Both fundamentally both sides have flaws, as outlined above.

POI's and keeps should instead have windows that are set by players.

Make the minimum daily window 1-2 hours: reward small amount of vp/resources/stuff

Allow guilds to expand that window, for everyone additional hour: reward more vp/resources/stuff than the minimum

This allows guilds that can't/won't play politics, or don't have the sufficient number of members/timezones covered, can still play and can still compete. It however still makes those small guilds consider if they want to babysit their place when the window is up, or try to be productive and venture out to attack others/get resource nodes etc.

It makes all encounters surprise encounters, and so battles would be more dynamic, haphazard, and those that can snap to formation quickly, will have a distinct advantage.

It gives more risk to those that want it, and forces everyone to make hard choices about what to do with their window, and if they want to venture out. At the end of the day, the campaign has a win condition, the keep is only as valuable as it is useful to you winning the campaign.

tldr: Both sides are wrong, allowing players to expand their vulnerability window is the missing puzzle piece.

What you fail to grasp is this is the internet and there is no such thing as off-hours. The system you seem be crusading is all about avoiding fights as it promotes only battling during specific times of day when there is possibly a heavier population on. This system rewards non-risk  takers as during invulnerable time you can roam the lands and gather resources prior to the next attack to upgrade/fortify you defenses.

You also fail to grasp that your specific play time is not everyone's which means there would be fighting at all times of day if this system wasn't in place. Do you think that players go into a peaceful state until your arrival to do battle? Lets look at this from another perspective, if say you play from 5pm to 8pm what happens if battles are only register from 12pm-3pm or 9pm-12am? Its easy for people who have no job or play during primetime hours to talk a lot of mess but its funny to see them cry when its their play time that gets messed with.

Nice jab to bad you falsely assume what you do not understand. I have seen massive battles taken place at all times of day and as such i have seen keeps be ninjaed at all times of day as well. I love how you day time players assume all night/morning time players just walk in and take everything without anyone putting up a fight. You just proved your arrogance in your last sentence.

I would argue that not having 24/7 gameplay is less casual friendly as not everyone plays during so called prime time hours. You effective alienate a good amount of player base by setting time frames around POI. The whole point of this game is to have continuous battle is it not? Whats realistic or action oriented about setting parameters around warfare? Its not like kings back in the day just sent messengers to places saying, "hey we want to take your city, whens the best time?"

I'll make a few change to the OP because I think you guys are right on many points. The"PvE" vs. "PvP" players presumption I guess is biased and I should rather use "more EK focused players" and "more Campaigns oriented players".

Also the part where I wrote that players accumulate wealth indefinitely in EK I'll rephrase with something more conditional to the players' ability to get rich and the limitations of the EK (maintenance cost, population cap, map size limit, relation with other players, etc.).

I had this idea yesterday so it's still not clear in my head how it could work but I'm convinced that it would help woven Crowfall all together. It could be about the Tournament system, the Dragon Throne and the fight Hunger vs. All-Father. I'll post later today, I gtg to my aunt to do gardening.
