Sciocco got a reaction from courant101 in Go go, Ranger powers! Official discussion thread
I take it you didn't play endgame Tera? The attack speed stat from gear was MORE important in PvP. In fact, PVE only players of certain classes would drop attack speed from their gear in favor of more damage, which is something that almost never happened in PvP gearing. Avoiding monster's attacks was entirely about knowing the boss' animations and tells. A PVE example would be Fane of Kaprima final boss, Kaprima, you could dodge his near one-shot spin attack with any attack speed from base to the max at that time which was 23.5% because what you really needed to know was whether or not he slammed his scythe toe down or heel down beforehand. In terms of PvP, pulling off combos on just about any class was dependent on how much attack speed you had. The warrior class had this absolutely ridiculous combo (roll > backstab > vortex > blade draw > cascade > combative or pounce > rain of blows) that could only be achieved with very high attack speed.

Maybe we need a skill added to the General tab/section/etc. that significantly increases attack/animation speed. I'll max that before I touch anything else and chances are anyone who doesn't is going to be absolute fodder in PvP. I'm cool with some free kills...

Blair, you decided to nearly replicate Tera's combat and yet make it slower than base animation speed of Tera. Are you aware of one of the most cited reasons for people not even making level 20 (3-6 hours of gametime) in Tera? It was how slow all the attacks were. It was essentially spammed on threads on mmorpg.com, tera's forums, and elsewhere. Crowfall is SLOWER. Imagine I'm playing in SP in a few weeks, next month, etc. and someone in my BDO guild (95%+ played Tera before) ask me how Crowfall is.

Random guildy: "What you up to Scio?"
Scio: "Just playing some alpha Crowfall since the test servers are up."
Random guildy: "oh I heard of that game, how is it?"
    Scio: "you played Tera, right?"
Random guildy: "Yea, mained a slayer."
Scio: "Imagine Tera in super slow-mo."
    Random guildy: "Oh..."
Scio: "Yep, not really worth it. Hope they change it."

What happened to the Funism (or whatever it was called)?

You really think you can pull 100k+ active players with slow combat?

I'm pretty sure it's 100% out of the window but ACE doesn't want to let anyone know yet. They did say they would try it and see if it works, no? FF isn't make or break for me anyway, would be fun though.

Sciocco reacted to izkimar in Healing is important and necessary.
Healers are absolutely key in an MMORPG, especially if you want PvP to reach true tactical heights. The current notion that healing is bad, and that the industry needed to get rid of the big bad holy trinity is non-sense. Every single game that has been released since GW2 swooped in and "saved" us from the trinity, has either had some of the most boring support roles, or no true support roles at all. What this has led to has been a severely dumbed down arcade experience when it comes to PvP.

Now let me clarify, I think the old school design of the Holy Trinity was not good for PvP either, but that is because the whole design was centered around dungeon and raid encounters and not PvP. The system just needed to be tweaked, but the baby didn't need to be thrown out with the bath water. There were already games during that era that handled healing in a very good way. Age of Conan was one of them, healing wasn't overpowered in that game but it did it's job of providing everyone with good sustain, but there weren't super powerful fire hose heals that kept people alive way too long. Most powerful heals were on a long cooldown.

Guild Wars 1 was another game that handled healing really well. It wasn't just implemented by overly simple skills that continuously bump up HP bars, it was extremely conditional and relied on a lot of synergies between many different skills. Plus, a good healer also had to rely on good usage of Protection spells to actually predict incoming damage and stop it.

If you want your game to truly have fun and tactical group PvP, you will implement skills that allow players to build healing roles, and true support roles. This only adds diversity and adds more conditions to strategy when trying to best shot call a victory against another group in a skirmish or full scale battle. Without true group support and skills that make your group need to coordinate and synergize to both stay alive and take out the opposition. You will end up with something extremely arcade-like and with more of an every man for himself type approach, and that really isn't fun.

Move while charging at 50% movement speed.
Add a skill to the general ranger tree or the ranged oriented promotion (both?) to increase movement speed while charging.
Animation upon firing the projectile has an animation lock.

^ Basically how Tera's archer would carry over to Crowfail.

Speed every single animation up, I'm embarrassed for you.

Yea. Beta 1/2s can go to Alpha 2/3, Alpha 3 can go to Alpha 2.

The packs for getting Alpha 2 are up now it seems, I'm waiting on the Alpha 3 ones.

I enjoy maining a healer sometimes so I'm all for healing in mmos. On the other hand, I do no want ridiculous OP healers such as Tera's priest at launch or WoW's druid during certain periods of time.

If druid has a nice healing build, I'll be there.
