I agree with you. Moreover, I think ACE's apparent decision to push character building to the vessel rather than the crow does the same thing, but way worse. All real character building in CF is behind a massive crafting wall.

    Think about it.

edit: gear is often placed behind a crafting wall rather than dropped from mobs. It was in UO and it will be here completely. Fine. But why the hell would you do that with all of the ways to build your character? That I don't get.

    So much drama.
Destrin says Sugoi is going Order. Then I see Angelmar says -W- is going Balance, which makes sense in light of Destrin's representation. Then Sugoi changes its mind and is going Balance as well? Or was Destrin kidding? I'm as confused as anyone, but I really, really hate that everyone has to make these lasting decisions on such short notice. That's a fail ACE.

How about a lil' heads up next time fellas? I'm sure this will be fun, but it creates a scenario where late changes, right at launch, could easily separate guild membership.

I don't think I've ever heard any tester say anything but good things about this mechanic. It's one of the best ones in the game for the cool factor alone. Assuming I can recruit Mr. Druid himself Anthrage to help me edit the videos I'd like to put together a montage of things that go boom.
It would cut across guild lines, so send me your Sugoi bomb traps, your Winterblade traps, Caldera, LoD and all the rest. After all, we want the same thing at the end of the day: to see some poorly made socks get blown up. If you don't have any good bomb trap vids, hop on a Druid and go PvP. They aren't that hard to pull off.

That, and Todd himself has made the fact fairly clear before KS.

And its the only game to ever pull these systems together. In short, it was an amazing and long term war / siege experience with many levels of strategy and political depth. Its a hard thing to explain if you didn't get to experience it. There are a million threads here you can pull up though if this is a serious question that answer the question. I';ll see if I can find a few.

As for "nostalgia," we played a lot of games. Turns out not all nostalgia is created equal. SB ruined all other games for me and for a lot of people. I see that quote or a flavor of it constantly when the game comes up. It made every other game just seem meaningless to me. They all feel as if they are rail shooters with no real and meaningful player decisions, if you're honest. Believe me, you don't want this game without those SB features.

edit: I backed this game because Todd made it clear this it will carry the spiritual torch of SB so that I can (hopefully) recreate and relive epic stories like these:

I think I popped it literally right before he started whacking on me (that's the singular reason I'd ever stand next to a Ranger, setting up a Bear after the stun), but I could be misremembering. Do you recall the time stamp on the dagger slicing and dicing?

    Agree with all of that.
Shroud is so finicky. When SR was eating me up with daggers and I was charging the Bear I kept thinking ... ok proc Shroud ... any time now would be good ... where's that proc Shroud? Sometimes it stuns every 3d attack. Sometimes, like there, it just abandons you. o.O

Courtesy of Tinnis and Soulreaver and props to CAL for even keeping and sharing the "bad vid" to one day soon make the ultimate in bomb-trap compilations:
I had 3 really solid ones this weekend, but this was the only one that was recorded I think :/

Point taken Tinnis! You're definitely one of the more prolific Druid players here. Your excellent Ranger work overshadows it sometimes, but I remember.
Anthrage was the OG Druid back in SB and I was just giving a tip of the hat.
TY for all the awesome links man.

With good advanced weapons they 1 shot people (see Destrin's nice vid from the other day). Ya. I'd say the most broken ability in the game is pretty impactful. Berserk being another ability that's far more impactful than this would be (immunity to damage is fairly impactful).

Not to derail though! I think the idea of ice walls a lot. They should snare too! But a tornado should blow them up. Maybe have that create a steam effect, obscuring vision?

coolwaters got a reaction from JamesGoblin in Rethinking Combos
Hmm. I kind of like both of those. The first would let you "que up" longer casting powers (like Cuddles "2, 2, step off keep, E" insta tornadoes to the face! The second might be even cooler. Creating your own combos .... Like the old daggerfall spell building. manna cost, cast time, duration, damage, recast could all be factors altered based on which spells are inserted into the combo chain (longer casting spells on the front end "bump up" damage of later spells in the chain. Or any manner of secondary effects).

That would be worth being rooted for a while. That would allow a level of customization I could get behind.

    Good lord, why?

I'll do one better. Not just autorun, but how about being able to open a window (inventory, training, name it) and still be able to move your character? I know this can be done because most games have it. So frustrating with the "alt" thing.

We've asked for this for a while. This and the loot bugs would be great quality of life improvements for the testers.

I just don't see any reason that every player must use a preset series of keystrokes defined in development in order to trigger combos (since we've got to have combos). Why not allow us to assign those buttons to any key or mouse button? Certainly seems needlessly bland and restrictive.

Same for movement. If I want to use the RMB to move and reassign the "scoot," why not bake that ability in? Having to use software to make up for the absence of keymapping blows.

I mean, if you don't care much about it, why cast so many high and mighty aspersions at others?
This may be a euro vs NA thing, I dunno. It never even occurred to me that there should be some implicit duty to forgo a raffle in favor of an unknown set of players who haven't spend any money yet. I'd assume the devs are capable of making only new players eligible for a prize if that was their intent.

Winterblades have been enjoying the new testing format. Sure, there's some work to do before we have a proper world to fight over, but we're seeing progress.
More importantly, Todd's personal activity over the past couple of weeks tells me that ACE is about make a hard push to give us the first, rough iteration of a living world to fight over.
Our expectations are in check, but as a guild we're excited to be a part of this phase more than anything we've seen yet.
New friends and old enemies, hop into TS and we'll give you the skinny on all aspects of the game thus far.
Turns out, Winter is indeed coming.

I generally agree with you. Not here.
But far more than the tray dance, I have a problem with doing it with my shoelaces tied together. I don't see the Druid gameplay as engaging so much as less effective by far. No one is going to want a druid over a Lego for healing and they simply don't provide much past it. We've scrimmaged these comps dozens of times and it's consistent.

They need to make the swap far smoother and faster. Although I will say that contrary to the suggestion, from the time you finish the last orb in that string of abilities you just described it takes a few seconds just to switch trays and use the next ability because of the GCD or whatever delays the tray swap.

That's my point. A faction spawn point generates more actual PvP than the Forts and Keeps.  It's just the unfinished game loop, but I wish there was a better reason to fight over the forts and keeps.

That's all true. Its the reason I prefer adding actual value to VIP by simply offering additional content ... just like buying additional accounts offers additional content ... on a similar value basis in dollars to alt accounts.
Manufacturing perceived value using a training stick is better than doing nothing to motivate players to buy VIP and de-motivate players from simply buying alt accounts, but it seems overly complex and artificial to me.
That said, who knows what Todd has up his sleeve to add to VIP that might push that VIP purchasing motivation over the hill.

The animation for net needs to be longer. It's all but impossible to dodge, even when you know it's coming.
I'd say the hurlbat is a far more appropriate ray cast than the net, but a longer animation at least would allow some counter-play.

This is the mic drop point, really. The "pro alt account" argument is internally inconsistent. Either alt accounts are bad for the game and amount to a "pay to win" situation or VIP giving the same content access would likewise not be bad for the game nor "pay to win" and would result in fewer alt accounts and greater player convenience.
