I've never played a tab-target/action hybrid that wasn't terrible. All it does is give you the worst of both worlds.

You don't really need to implement a specific system for this. Mercenaries can just... talk to guilds. You know, arrange a deal with words. 'Performance tracking' can just be done by word of mouth.
