Joy got a reaction from JamesGoblin in If you are new to Crowfall, introduce yourself here!
Hi, there!  My name is Joy and I am a longtime gamer.  A few things about me: I live in the west coast of the United States, and I am a woman in my twenties and a working professional.  That said, I always make time for the things I love.
I haven't been this excited for a game in a long, long time, and I'm thrilled to finally have the time and opportunity to be part of what seems to be an amazing community.  I hope to make plenty of friends in what I believe is going to be a long and exciting journey here in Crowfall.    Hope you all are having a great day!  GGHF!

I think this would be cool also!  Like you, I love gathering mats and crafting things.  Cooking, in particular, I find enjoyable.

I'm unsure if gathering is too slow or not, or death penalties are too harsh or not... But let me explain what's happening here.
It's very likely that gathering is too slow and death penalties too harsh for a test nobody gives a crap about. The point of things like gathering times and death penalties is that they make you care about what's going on and become invested. No significant death penalty = I don't care if I die. But in a test environment, you already don't care at all about what's going on so the death penalty seems particularly egregious.
Here are a few important things to keep in mind on this topic:

    1.  The game is really unfinished. Factories aren't even in yet, and while I don't understand the use or context of a factory when there's no way to mass harvest materials so that gear can be mass produced, I have to trust that what is basically the SWG crafting team has got this one.
    2. There's close to zero trade between players on the test realm and no economy. In the live game, if you don't want to gather, you should be able to kill things for stuff, and then sell that stuff and buy crafted goods or raw materials, hopefully all through a structure that can be built in holdings or something. On launch there will be people out there who will gather their asses off, all the time, forever. Don't forget the legions of chinese and russian farmers either.
Furthermore, powerful groups of players will want to sell off their crappy gear that's way too bad for them to even consider wearing, which should help to establish a baseline of gear that the average guy can afford. This will be accelerated even more on full loot Dregs realms. In Darkfall my bank would regularly become full - be rendered nonfunctional - because of the sheer quantity of gear I was hauling in from my nightly murders.
    3. As I alluded to in my opening statement, the tedium of harvesting may be equal on test to launch, but the critical difference is that the result of that harvesting, the payoff (getting gear, killing people, taking fortresses, and ultimately winning campaigns) is infinitely more meaningful in the shipped game. On the test realm it's all laggy, buggy nonsense which is why I and the vast majority of people interested in Crowfall rarely bother playing, if ever. Guilds will also work hard to gear up their members so they can actually put up a decent fight, you know, when the game is actually out and people care about that sort of thing.
TL;DR Test =/= Live. Don't overcorrect due to lack of meaning in test.

In my opinion this chicken ticker mechanic that requires food is just a mirror of items breaking. spend hours making an item, use it, it breaks make another. Bodies need fuel and they break down. Get below 70% and you start to break down. makes sense to me. This is just another mechanic that keeps us on our toes, shows us that we are pithy little nothings compared to the GODS. Some one some where is going to be chopping down trees, they will get apples and now new and delicious sounding bloodworms. Elsewhere another joe blow is chopping up some innocent little animal that never did anything to them for its tendons. This all drives the economy of the game. its all about harvesting and turning it into something else for someone else. I'll choose to make food for someone so they can go out and wail on ppl to their hearts content any day over getting ganked or loosing every single fight im in. I know my strengths and harvesting and crafting is where they are, that and being a punching bag for middle aged men who live in their parents basements. i have foreseen the future and i plan on preparing for it. In reality how hard is it to eat an apple from your bag when you get too low or creating a campfire from some extra crap wood and frying up some extra meat from the lil kitty you just slaughtered. Compared to some of the hard truths from this game i think its on the easier side to accept. I already know im going to cry like a baby the first time i get jumped and fly back to my body just to find the only import things to me just got snatched from my cooling corpse by some tween who already had 20 copies of them  in his inventory. Personally the concept of this game sound so amazing that im willing to spend my time playing it even when i hate a core concept of it, im a solo player who likes to explore and hates grouping up and interacting with others. I know that that is a surefire way to die in the game and that it will end in tears but I am going to play it and i am going to die and i am going to cry like a #$%&* because it will still be fun for me, and i will be contributing to an awesome company started by awesome ppl who had an awesome dream. And besides who here doesn't love chicken legs, i mean come on ppl.

Context:  The last MMO that I played was Archeage.  I had inherited over time essentially all of my original guild's holdings (an absolutely massive contiguous area in an ideal location).  One day I went to log on and one of my two accounts was locked.  I immediately sent an email and waited.  I didn't get a response in weeks, even though I repeatedly attempted to do everything I could.  *Poof* the land started to go and that was it for me in Archeage.

Today:  I sent an email at 11:12PM to ArtCraft Support mentioning that I had my email linked to both my Crowfall and MicroVenture accounts and had not recieved my investment bonuses yet.  Fully expecting to have merely missed something obvious I got an email back ELEVEN MINUTES LATER from Gordon telling me he had solved the problem.  Keep in mind it was after 10pm in Austin...

The Point: Just wanted to say publicly how much I valued such customer service, especially in an age where in order to talk to someone at my cable company I had to wait on hold for over two hours last week...

Joy reacted to Frykka in Hunger System a bit out of place?
Hunger will be a factor as the campaign progresses...   the food and cooking resources will get scarcer as the seasons progress and the hunger gets stronger.   Guilds will have to prep food for the fall-winter seasons or face being hungry while trying to fight.  It adds a dimension to strategic planning... armies fight on their stomach.
