The problem with 'unofficial' policies is that we are making every attempt to be as transparent as possible, to make the rules as clear as possible and to make sure everything is on the level. This particular unofficial policy creeps up now and then so I figured now was a good time to bring it forward and see how everyone feels about it.

I think it would be reasonable to allow OPs to request thread closures when:
    1. It's a redundant topic. Technically, it can simply be merged if the thread is still active, but if they accidentally necro'd an old topic, I think closing the new thread would be reasonable.
    2. It's an accidental double post.

Guild recruitment is a whole 'nother discussion, I think. It seems to me that we need to figure out the best way to accommodate those who want to recruit and to make it protected in some way so others can't come in and cockroach their thread. Let's get the current policy discussions resolved and we'll tackle this one soon.

Ok, so the mall analogy sounds good.

I'm a small time guy so I can only afford a McHeadlights and a CheckYoBucks. But the realtor down the road, he can afford the McHeadlights, the CheckYoBucks, the JihanWorld, the Blessings & Giggles, the JihanWorks, JTC Penney's, etc.

Obviously, I'm going to the larger mall. Does that devalue the brand? No. Maybe the smaller EK should diversify but it doesn't mean that a larger EK can't be the mall of choice. And your argument is that there shouldn't be a copy in every EK. Who's to say that even if my inventory isn't universally available that as well renown crafter I can't have a McHeadlight's in ever EK anyhow/

Are you wanting to make it harder for the crafter? Because neither scenario impacts the EK King.

Ok, a real game design post from me, don't stroke out....

Let's say people reward me for being the great board warrior I am, so they give me a parcel each in many kingdoms. So, I'm sitting on say 20 parcels, all in different kingdoms. I'd be best suited to put a shop there. But will I need to stock 20 shops with 20 shields or can my 1 shop share the same inventory across several eternal kingdoms in which I have a shop? It'd work like an auction house only in the idea that I can go to any auctioneer and see the same items.

Could someone go to any shop of mine in any eternal kingdom and see the same inventory?

The way I interpreted it, the time of life dictates a theoretical maximum, where the distance traveled is a function of at least mass - and probably mass * power/skill. Not sure if arrows will have a 'true' trajectory or just a visual one, but based on what we've seen so far in terms of physics, I'd wager it's the former.

Gather 'round, children, and let Auntie Pann tell you a story...

Once upon a time in a land far, far away, your humble narrator was also a volunteer in a magical place called Ultima Online. There, too, we did face allegations of all sorts of nefarious improprieties: favoritism, nepotism, all the 'isms you can imagine. Despite these hardships, we persevered and did forge ahead, doing our level best to right wrongs and uphold truth, justice and the Sosarian way.

Later, I was part of the team that set up the EVE volunteer program, which is still going strong.

In both Ultima Online and EVE, volunteer identities and player identities are/were separate.

I get that there are some bad apples in volunteer barrels from time to time. We do what we can to spot them before they even get near the barrel, but you can only do so much to screen candidates. Eventually, you have to learn to trust and you have to put in whatever safeguards you can to protect the community if one of the volunteers goes off the rails.

Having 'anonymods' is as much for their protection as it is for the community at large. It was a decision made unanimously by Todd, Gordon and me. The moderators still have guidelines and protocol to follow. They are still held to a higher standard. Their decisions will still be scrutinized by anyone who gets so much as a profile view from one of them -- and we'll still get Support tickets for at least one-fourth of the warnings that are issued. The difference is tnat now, with this system, when their watch ends they can return quietly and uneventfully to their personal accounts. It's simply better for everyone that way.
