Escrow is not an accurate term for the game mechanic as it usually refers to money being held by a third-party on behalf of two transacting parties.
There are not two persons involved in the exchange from CW to EK, just one (yourself)
    Embargo, meanwhile, has a broader meaning than the OP is using. One such is;
An order to temporarily stop something, especially trading or giving information. Basically, an embargo keeps things in one place (CW) from being delivered to another place (EK) until some occurrence happens to cause the release of the embargo (the campaign ends)

So, you see, embargo really is the right term for this game mechanic.

This is my fifth game to work on from the ground floor. By now I've figured out that a regular work week for any of us in this industry is usually irregular by 'normal people' standards, I guess, but it's what I'm used to and I like it.

We do have core office hours, 9 to 5'ish. GW and JTC are usually the first ones in. Daily stand-up at 10 am where we briefly go over our tasks for the day. Generally, I'm writing something--web features, newsletters, etc. A current ongoing project of mine is to revise the forum rules and getting new volunteer moderators ready for action.

In the early days of my career, I actually overdid it to the point that I got ill from exhaustion. I'm talking physically ill, bed-ridden for two days. I'd only ever heard of it in connection with celebrities who dramatically collapsed on stage and were rushed to the hospital, so I thought it was hooey and they probably really just OD'd but reporters were afraid to say so for fear of getting sued. After that ordeal, I realized that nope, exhaustion really is a thing and you have to be careful. It's great to love a job and enjoy your career, but the internet isn't going to explode if you're not hovering over it every second.

Now, I make it a point to spend a little time with my family in the evenings, to at least to have dinner together, and then I usually work another hour or two. Again, this is what I'm used to and so it's not 'drudgy' at all. On the weekends, I make an effort to disconnect as much as I can, though I do peek in occasionally to make sure nothing's on fire.

    That's me.

Gordon is a whole 'nother creature altogether. When I was a kid, my mom had us convinced she had eyes in the back of her head. Not only do I suspect that's true of Gordon, I think he also has some sort of internal flux capacitor-type thing that makes him impervious to stress, fatigue and shenanigans. He may not even be human.

The good news is that no dupe bug exists.  The bad news is all the "dupes" were our web guys modifying the affected people's accounts directly trying to fix their "my package isn't showing" bugs, without first checking the gifting status.  So all duplicate packages were actually made by ArtCraft (and are being removed now).

You guys sure know how to raise my blood pressure, I'll give you that!

If you have a package you believe is not showing correctly, please email support@artcraftent.com with the specifics.  The systemic issues around this are corrected, but we may have some people who still have this problem.

In other words: "Are you guys sure that growth isn't just international markets?"

...yes, of course.  We are seeing growth across the board, but U.S. continues to be our primary market (and provides the lion's share of the growth.)

Our decision to lock the forums was a strategic decision; we were thinking about the future of this community.  Community management gets exponentially more difficult as you scale (and, FWIW, it's not like we're the first game to restrict our forums to customers.)   We watch the numbers daily.  If the numbers indicated that the forum locking had been a huge mistake, we would have discussed it and said, "are we really sure this was the correct decision?"
One can certainly argue that they don't like it / it is bad for the community / we are big jerks who hate freedom of speech.    All valid opinions (that I happen to disagree with).  But it would be hard to argue that it has negatively impacted the growth or momentum of CF.  Looking at the numbers, that is not accurate.

Definitely a hiccup on our end, which will be fixed today, sorry for the surprise and inconvenience!  Everyone is temporarily enabled and the actual posting titles will be fixed later today.  (We're in the midst of a giant web publish today and there was an issue with one of the steps that caused this)

Culture wars.  Playing out in real time in front of us.  In-game these will make for some delicious conflict.

There are a million places on the internet to be asshat (that's a Todd word) or get your ya-ya's out.  Right now our forums are for helping us make a better game, and potentially a place for you to find allies and enemies.  But backers don't get to run completely wild in that process.

We'll get the new user forums working better in the near future, and eventually we'll even have places the veterans can call their own where no ArtCraft moderation exists (but those will be invite-only, not for every passer-by).  After all, you are backers and we want to serve you.  To a point that is.

We expect it to be quiet until we give you more real (game) meat to chew on.  We know you are carnivores.  Try not to eat each other in front of us in the meantime.

P.S. Investors don't give poorly made socks about the forums, or even the traffic on them.  They only care about market potential which they mostly measure in dollars and heads that gave dollars.  The investors that encouraged us to do an offering now are Crowfall backers after all!

The people who purchased strongholds before we put them on sale all got double credits.  So you don't need to feel sorry for them.  Feel sorry for yourself for not being an early buyer!  Hopefully it's clear what we'll do going forward.

I heartily recommend this game. It's Skyrim with a challenging and engrossing combat system. And, well, you're basically a R-rated ghostbuster.

I didn't play the previous Witcher games and am still thoroughly enjoying the story - it's accessible enough and very well written.

There are number of legitimate and thoughtful points made in this thread. I want to thank everyone who has remained on-topic and civil. It's clear that those of you who have care about the community, even if some of us disagree on what particular attributes of it should be championed.

However, the very nature of the thread does (more than?) flirt with the whole "discussing/challenging moderator actions" mantra; and because the latest page or two of posts have become a little less constructive, I am going to lock this.

That said, I'm going to make sure at least one or two ACE employees see it, ask their input, and have them unlock it if they see fit.

    Thanks for your understanding,

Can you please explain what has been announced that deviates from the Crowfall vision?  I've been following this MMO since pre-KS as well and understand that a number of pre-KS members of the community are growing impatient, but I fail to see what specifically has deviated from the vision.

Personally, I'm glad to see that the CF community has become diverse, since it was very unhealthy when it was dominated by SB members only, like it was some entitled club and you must have had played SB in order to join it.  There was a strong arrogant attitude that existed in the forums from the SB community, which was very unwelcoming to new backers during the KS.  Nowhere in the CF vision does it state that CF is SB v2 or targeting a specific former community.

CF's Vision has always been... to provide not only 1 PvP Sandbox, but quite a few different variants of PvP Sandboxes that don't persist for years.  This has attracted PvP players, regardless of their prior gaming experience.

I'm sorry that the SB community may feel like they're losing some sort of entitlement to CF, but you have to realize that CF would never survive on the backs of the SB community alone either.  A LOT has changed since SB.  It's great to reminisce the experiences from former MMOs, but CF is a new venture, with its own community.... of mostly PvP players from many backgrounds and experiences coming together on the commonality that we enjoy PvP.

I understand that there have been a LOT of content dropped pertaining to EKs, which may make the PvP community feel that the focus has shifted to more PvE.  I get that.  Of all the CF features though, the EKs have been the most confusing for players to grasp and how they even tie in with CWs and contribute to PvP.  It's a very new concept to MMOs and it needed more fleshing out for players.

We should all know what to expect from the PvP side within CWs, there's plenty of information about it already and it's really not as new of a feature as EKs are. EKs, PvE environments in CWs, crafting, etc... have been part of the CF vision.  So, I just don't see any "new direction" that deviates from that.

I've seen some people/discussions within the community that are tossing out capitalism conspiracy theories that just don't make sense.  CF will be F2P with a cash shop and VIP subscription.  Nothing new there and I trust that Ace will do their very best to not make it a pay-to-win shop either.

I think that it's unfair to blame Todd for the attitudes and responses of some of the members within this community.  There are quite a few elements in CF that are clearly influenced from SB.  KS and post-KS has grown the CF community considerably larger than the SB community here now.     I recommend and value all constructive posts from former SB players that can explain why a game element was success or fail in SB.  It wouldn't be much different than those bringing in experiences from other games like PlanetSide, Tera, Black Desert, Blade and Soul, WildStar, EvE, or even the WoW gorilla.     Honestly, I'm not even sure why this was even a question, as it should be common sense to all members within a new MMO community.  Since there are many CF features influenced by SB, I was expecting to more constructive discussions on why they worked in SB and what could change... along with the acceptance of features that have evolved in other MMOs since as well.     Unfortunately, many of those discussions have been met with absolutes from the SB community along the lines of, "This was in SB, so it must be done this exactly like it was back then.  Any deviation would kill CF."  Sorry, but that's not a discussion and yet, it has stained the SB community members with a very arrogant persona, which has had a negative impact on the CF community.  The only way to turn this around is to join the discussions as equal PvP player participants adding their SB experience to the discussion, rather than continuing to demand the SB way or the highway.   CYT, thanks for bringing this thread up though, it's probably been way overdue.  I just think that there's more of a perception and response issue than anything that Ace has deviated from the vision.     Anyway, my 2 cents.

QFT had nothing to do with it.  Doc left because he is Doc. I miss him, but like I've said previoulsy, if anything about him not being here was outrageous I'd also be gone. I also wouldn't worry about the ACE partners.  Go back and read everything Todd and Gordon have posted. The goals and direction of this game are stated and obvious.  Using a $ounding board of backers on some ideas isn't going to change the direction into PvE MMO 33.7.
