Playing and writing have been a hobby of mine since I was about 14. I wrote this yesterday and recorded this version using Garage Band on my MacBook Pro. The idea was to convey a feeling of the constant moving of time through the seasons, the realization of an epic battle, victory and then preparing to do it all over again. It's the endless, thankless cycle of war as champions of the gods.

    Lyrics:

    "We Are Only Crows"
Words and Music by Mike Joseph
V1: The springtime breathes life to the trees and the land
We seek out the place where we’ll make our stand
The mountains the hills, sing songs of new life
As we’re building our force for the strife
As we're building our force for the strife
V2: In the summer sun, by the sweat of our brow
We’re forging our forces to win this somehow
Sounds of the battle are echoing near
And we choose to stand with no fear
We choose to stand with no fear
    Cho: As the hunger grows
We bring the fire and sword
    For heaven only knows
    We are only crows
    We are only crows
V3: The leaves of autumn fall all around
Like the foes we have vanquished they lay on the ground
The ache in our bones, the chill in the air
Bears the warning that winter is near
Bears the warning that winter is near
    (Chorus)
V4: Winter consumes like blistering wind
We know that this world will soon meet its end
We gather our plunder, we mend all our wounds
For we know we shall fight again soon
For we know we shall fight again soon
    (Chorus)

"Our world was beautiful once. Lush forests, full of life. Serene oceans and captivating skies. Our world had creatures and colors I've yet to see among the others. Beasts both kind and fierce would rule the wild places, and there was harmony. Enchanting sights that could charm even the most hardened soul, if only for a moment. Sure, the people of Kelmor weren't perfect. We had our share of conflict driven by greed and ambition. But nothing prepared our world for the Hunger..."

Kelmor was the largest land on our world, divided into six Kingdoms. Each with a ruler that desired more than they held, and so they plotted and schemed against each other. All but save one.

A man known to have survived a hundred battles, but not by strength alone. He had a mind for strategy, and a heart of gold. His only desire was to have people forge their own destiny. An ideal that quickly fell short in the land of Kelmor, as other rulers began to sprout with their own visions. However, all the Kingdoms owe him a great debt for shattering what was once known as the Vin'lar Empire, which was an all encompassing dark and sinister monarchy. Pharuuk had the quality of a hero, and became more than a legend in our land. He became a breathing God. People from all over built monuments and statues in his name, worshiping him. He reveled in it, adored it, the reverence. But even the exalted can fall.
Some years after the free Kingdoms had formed. Pharuuk's mind had begun to whither. Madness seeped in. Only fleeting moments of clarity would visit him. During those brief stints, Pharuuk had begun a journal, writing down whatever thoughts his mind could summon. Some entries seem random gibberish, while most were thoughts of his people. Then there was this passage...
"There is a sickness in me- not born from this world. Haunting nightmares, nay memories of lands being consumed by a dark cloud. It rips at my mind and I am obsessed. I fear it is coming to us. Not just the land of Kelmor, but to those yet beyond our reach. My body grows cold as if I am already standing on these lifeless grounds. I fight against this hunger, but it is not a foe known to me. I will send word of this darkness to the other Kingdoms, surely someone will know a remedy."
An entry only discovered years after his passing by one of Pharuuk's sons...

An honorable son, Dirke had set out to the other Kingdoms with his father's last unspoken wish. To speak of the madness that consumed the land's hero, and to seek a remedy to the fallen. Each land Dirke visited, was a shadow of it's former self. The minds of rulers decaying, and so too were their lands. This did not escape his notice. Realizing the weight of the issue, he had begun a mission of his own. One that would follow his father's legacy... To save Kelmor.
Bringing to light the darkness that has befallen the land, Dirke had been able to gain followers. Scholars, warriors, farmers and all walks between had lent to the cause. Some preparing food before the world's blight grew too wide spread. Some smithing armaments to equip those capable of defending against rioters, or worse. Some even explored outside of Kelmor in hopes of an answer. Those never returned. These folk all shared a single fortress high into the largest mountain in Kelmor, and aptly called it God's Reach. The last bastion for those still living in that world.
It didn't take long before the hunger was upon them. Dark clouds consuming the land in all directions. Bitter cold had been biting at the smallest spark of life that remained within the residence. Most people were lost to the evil winter, starved or gone mad. It was only a matter of time before they too were engulfed by this unstoppable foe. But Dirke did not falter. He would not surrender his life. He spat at the hunger and cursed it. Fighting back with body and soul, there were 14 left alive.
In those last moments, Dirke showed solid resolve. He took a blade to his hand, and cut deep. Holding high his blood dripped fist, he casts a final curse at the hunger. Vowing with this life, and the next, and the next, for all eternity, he will forever fight this darkness. The 13 others inspired by his promise of vengeance, too swore the oath...

"It's now a fading memory, Kelmor. It's been countless lifetimes since that day. I was a farmer then... But now I'm a Crow."

@MiracleMax Hope you don't mind. I took some liberties during the voice over of your write-up. If it matters, I had a lot of fun doing doing it. However, note to anyone looking to record something. DO NOT record while eating spicy chili.

Arawulf got a reaction from Dregar in Please, no advantage for $$$
Monetization is such a powder keg these days. PTW is such an objective term since a "win" has countless definitions. Here's the thing: cosmetics only in Crowfall won't be enough to justify a VIP. There must be some convenience built in to justify the cost. Games w/ cosmetic only generally don't have a monthly cost, but rather a cash shop w/ a special currency. VIP in Crowfall has been described to borrow from the Eve Online PLEX system - where the item is a tradeable commodity in the game world. There will always be people that will call this PTW (whatever that means). People who demand cosmetics only - well, there are others that call that a cash grab too (see GW2)! As ACE has said from the beginning, there is only one thing that everybody believes about monetization - everybody hates it. The truth is that for ACE to be a sustainable company AND for Crowfall to be a sustainable game, they must develop a VIP that is fair enough to not significantly affect gameplay but attractive enough that a critical mass will buy it.

The forces of Chaos and Order battle over the Archenstone Keep!
Thanks to Winterblades for coordinating this event with us. Good Fights!
EDIT: I think this was the largest battle to date in Crowfall. Peak numbers were 24 order and 28 Chaos (not including @ACE_Jackal who was spectating on Chaos). Framerate was low but the server held up for an overall enjoyable experience.
EDIT #2: For those wondering I'm on a pretty old computer. i5 2500k @ 4.4gighz, GTX 780, 16 GB ram, SSD. This is on default settings (I should've gone to basic for this but forgot).

    Oathsworn [NA]
Bound by Oath, Sworn in blood
Oathsworn is a newly formed guild made for Crowfall, with the a more classical approach to guilds in MMOs.

The general focus for the Oathsworn, is to provide a close knit community to it's members. Built from the ground up by you and future recruits. We will be focusing on both the ever changing Campaign Worlds and the more permanent Eternal Kingdom. This guild is not intended to be a hardcore/elitist  guild, there are plenty enough of those already. Instead the Oathsworn is here for those that like to focus on comradeship, creativity, and long lasting friendships. Sure that may sound like puppies and rainbows to some. But the core of it is meant to rekindle the old school meaning of guilds. Forge with us, an old path, one which has been forgotten.
Within the Campaign Worlds, the Oathsworn will dedicate to the Guild vs Guild and Faction War bands primarily. Of course members are still welcome to join any other Campaign Worlds as they wish. However main guild operations will take place in those two bands. We will be gathering, crafting and fighting as a cohesive guild lead by intelligent and experienced leaders. Be prepared to help your brothers and sisters in arms with whatever playstyle you wish. As we are not a hardcore guild, it's important to note that we are still competitive. Just not to the level of obsession or insanity.

The Oathsworn are the embodiment of these core values. They are the foundation of every member, and those found not upholding could find themselves on trial.
~ Integrity ~ Defined as doing the right thing, even if it could give you trouble. Integrity is a staple in regards to respecting others, rather it be guild members, other players, or game developers. No one should fault you for being truthful as long as you show tact.
~ Honor ~ There will be times where seizing an advantage may cause frustrations to others. That's perfectly acceptable. It's what we do after that, that counts. There is no continuous grieving, no breaking of contracts, and no intentional cause of harm permitted.
~ Selflessness ~ It's as simple as it gets. In a game where players really thrive on group play, having a guild of like minded members that all contribute to the cause is the ultimate reward. Look after the guild, and the guild looks after you.
~ Loyalty ~ All the values mentioned before help instill loyalty to our members. Being in Oathsworn is a promise of dedication to the guild, and it's members. Staying loyal is the best way to establish friendships, and enjoy the game.

Our Eternal Kingdom is more than what may appear to most players. Busy streets full of vendors and crafting tables. Wild lands rich with mystery and lore. Battlegrounds littered with those that hold conflict towards each other. And much more. This is a place not just for an occasional respite from the day to day PvP. But also a place to stage many guild events. Live out stories of mystery and intrigue. Or perhaps partake in a tournament of sorts. There's many thing to do inside the Eternal Kingdom... And it all comes down to the tools set before us and the creativity that follows. Who knows, maybe you'll own a piece of land yourself.

You can read a summary about how Oathsworn was formed in the Crowfall-verse, HERE.

We are currently taking applications for members and officers. There are no Class/Race restrictions. Ages 17+ may apply. If you have any technical skills, I would like to hear from you as well. (website design, musicians, artists) Not all applicants will be accepted, and as the BETA and Launch grow ever closer, our recruitment may slow down or quicken based on a number of factors.

If the Oathsworn feels like a great place to be when Crowfall launches, click the image above to be sent to an application form. Fill it out thoroughly and thoughtfully. We will be giving interviews, to each applicant that has met our criteria. If you have questions about the guild, feel free to PM me, or ask on this page.

The new "game universe" is now up.  Players with the:
Pre-Alpha 1   Pre-Alpha 2 and   Alpha 1 ...test permissions can now access the new testing environment!
To do so, go to https://crowfall.com/client/ and download the new client.
If you want to be able to access the old game universe (and you might!) please take care NOT install this new version over your last game client!
Instead, install it in a different folder, and then run the new patch client separately.
As always, we will expand this test (and invite more players) as quickly as we possible can -- as the new version proves stable enough to handle the increased load.
Thanks, as always, and we'll see you in game!
