    Still curious how Unity 5 will handle large-scale Crowfall battles with many players in an outdoor area.  Any insight into that, please?

    How well does Unity5 handle large numbers of characters/players in one area?  I would hope some battles in Crowfall will easily contain 50-100 people.

    The "Guilds" forum has been renamed "Guild Recruiting" 
     
    We have implemented new rules specific to that forum
     
    In addition to the Rules of Conduct, there are a few additional rules and conditions for this forum section.
    -          New topics restricted to recruiting only.
    -          Discussions in the threads must be limited to recruiting, resources (websites, chat) and activities for the guild.
    -          Off-topic and derogatory posts will be removed; repeat offenders will be penalized (including account suspension).
     
    This is not the place for guild politics and warfare; save it for the battlefield.

    I 100% disagree with this.
     
    Part of the skill required to play melee is managing what direction you are facing.  The free camera allows you to see over your shoulder while in combat, which once everyone becomes more accustomed to the mechanic, will be massively useful in larger fights.

    This is a tight balance that we've been trying to walk. The problem is: the idea of having unique blessings for each God is really cool, but think about how it would play out in actual gameplay.  
     
    Let's say Yaga could offer me a blessing that slightly improves respawn time, and Malekai offers a blessing that slightly improves my crit chance.  Both options are thematic and cool, but now I'm stuck.  I can either pick a God for narrative/roleplaying reasons, OR I can pick the in-game benefit that I'm most interested in.
     
    What do you think most players will do?
     
    ...power.  99% of the time, the narrative goes out the window and they go for the power.
     
    We have some ideas to address this, but it's definitely a challenge.

    There are many (non-obligatory) "appointments" per week. When they cancel one it's because they can't do otherwise.
    What Pann was saying is that this is not an "early access", so don't plan your day around a schedule that is subject to change.
     
    If you can't go to an "appointment", there are plenty of other testers that can, no need to quit your job.

    At this point in our testing, I would discourage anyone from modifying their plans around the playtests. Please consider all times tentative. It's simply part of the pre-alpha state of things. In the future, as we go into the next phases--alpha, beta--and our processes are more refined and all that jazz, a schedule will be easier to adhere to and plan around. 
     
    Regarding the change for today's test duration, Bill said that they have a little more data they are looking to collect. I got the impression that they don't even really need a whole hour for that, but a 10-minute playtest would really cheese a lot of people off so we'll run it at least a full hour (unless something unforeseen and horrible happens that causes us to call it sooner).

    Sorry, everyone. I've just gotten word that the playtest is cancelled. The build needs to cook a little longer. Will update again as soon as I have new information to share.

    Actually, I just had to double check the damage values of hellfire aura after seeing this. Yup, found a miscalculation. It's currently getting an additive 180% weapon damage but is also ticking twice a second. This should either be once a second or a reduced weapon damage add.
     
     
    Personally, I'm a fan of more ticks so will adjust accordingly.

    Unsure why you would apply for a limited number of pre-alpha combat test sessions when your sapphire badge over there will eventually get you in.    But do what you gotta do I guess.
     
    As for the announcement itself, I'm not sure if this is the right time to get the hardcore streamers on the bandwagon.  It could possibly generate some hype, or it might cause people to pick apart the true alpha state of the game.
     
    It seems like there are some competent and dedicated streamers already in testing, why not let them promote Crowfall?

    hope we never see this in the hunger dome. You already watch twitch streams and youtube videos of players hiding out til the last minute or spending more time running than fighting. Can't test combat from the hole you're hiding in. Something like this in the Hunger Dome would make it worse.

    The biggest issue I see is that if devs create a leaderboard, they change the nature of the game because they create the measurement most people will generally care about most.  In a game like Crowfall (or Shadowbane) where major victories are recognizable by the impact they have on the world, there was no real need to create a leaderboard.  
     
    Victories included: siege defense and offense, mine claims, discipline rune captures, wiping farming groups, and generally harassing and hampering opponents' strategies.  How do you want to measure all of those against each other?  What about other emergent victories that are not related to the embargo and kill counts?
     
    My point is, I cannot conceive of a productive leaderboard that accurately portrays who is winning because (1) not necessarily 'knowing' who is winning adds so much to the politics, (2) measurement of winning can generally be left to the players and then determined by the win conditions at CW demise, and (3) any leaderboard will unnaturally affect the emergent gameplay (i.e. people "honor farming").
     
    For me, not a great idea in Crowfall if they want to stay honest to "old school" politics.

    I believe the design decision to require legos to build rage was so they had to fight on the front lines along side knights.
     
    Take away that requirement and they would potentially just hang back away from the fighting.
     
    As far as balance goes. Meh... I'll worry about that in a year or two when it's closer to launch.
