    At the funeral I spoke with one of Wes' law school buddies regarding the donations to the law school (he gave one of the eulogies).  Dozens of members of the bar and several judges attended Cool's funeral.  We've been following up and I've updated the OP with more details regarding the donations to the law school.  Contact me if you have any questions.

    Yes animals might actually give the Ranger away. He is an assassin after all. Imagine trying to be in stealth mode with your cat, dog, horse, monkey sitting beside you licking themselves, or rustling through the leaves. The poor Lone Ranger would be easy pickings.

    Thanks for the info in today's update. It sounds like the team are really happy with Unity 5 which is most heartening to hear.
    I'm also liking the fact that Unity will enable the team to build new content/worlds quickly so that there will be no need to feel stagnant in between campaigns.

    I'm happy to jump in, and I'm the first one to admit that we make mistakes, too.  If you guys were to take a look at the design architecture for this game (or any MMO, frankly) you would quickly see that there are so many moving parts that it's pretty much impossible NOT to screw something up.  There are just too many interdependencies for any team to "get it all right" on the first try.
     
    I'm trying to just make that part of the plan: don't obsess about getting it perfect, obsess about (1) setting design goals and sticking to them, (2) building a framework that allows for iteration (i.e. fixing things that don't work or turn out to be less fun than expected) and (3) iterate over time.
     
    I've been making MMOs my entire life, and I think my biggest mistake migth have been that I went into the Shadowbane launch thinking of it as a "finish line."  
     
    It's not.  Launch is just another update in a decade-long series of releases... generally, I now think of it as that point where the servers are always up and we decide not to ever turn off or wipe our persistence.  
     
    Ideally the process should feel organic: we grow into our vision, we grow into our community, and (fingers crossed) we grow into enough of a revenue stream that we can all keep doing this as our day job, for years to come.

    I remember one siege during beta where the walls were (through sheer chance) going to trigger the upgrade from "construction" state right in the middle of a the match.  It added a really interesting time element, because attack vectors were disappearing in the middle of the fight.  Very cool.

    I've read all the messages and I appreciate that you guys took the time to answer my concerns.
     
     
     
    It makes sense... I agree that the best solution is usually to try to find the right balance between the systems rather than just removing a system entirely. I think that most if not all the concerns I've mentioned can be solved or attenuated if the numbers are tweaked correctly. Thanks and sorry everyone about the negativity lately, I surely need to take a break.

    Thanks Mctan, I understand your point. I should clarify my statement in regard to the 50% of the Shadowbane community that I observed leaving was actually around 50% of the Shadowbaners that were active on this forum.
    I do understand that there is many people that never even bother to come to game forums, and I totally understand why they don't.
     
    I have an Australian ex Shadowbane friend who purely only reads ACE posts. Nothing else.

    @Todd. Most of us here are relying on the ACE team to find balance.
    For me, I just cannot fathom why the ACE team decided to complicate the game design with the latest game reveals.
     
    Not sure if anyone was aware of the fact that about 50% of the Shadowbane community walked away when the  first EK reveal was released, but I sure noticed it. Those hard nosed vets realised back then that it was going to be a big deviation to the game design.
     
    I know and understand that a lot of gamers don't mind these changes to the game design because they are used to P2W, RMT's and Bots and exploits and hacks and whatever to gain an upper hand.
     
    It would be refreshing to have a game where everyone could pvp on an even playing field and just use guts, intelligence and guile for a chance at gaining an upper hand. Even if it was a B2P and a monthly sub, I'd rather play that. Rather than having all the tricky bells and whistles that come with trying to please everyone's play style and genre.

    It all boils down to this ... if you only plan on being a crafter then just stick with one account.
    If you want to specialize in combat or exploring then make yourself a 2nd account at least for a crafter. 
     
    While I realize that some people think it will be fine to rely on their guild to supply, there will be times that you will not be able to rely on your guild. Think about years from now. It's only pure common sense to think ahead. 
     
    ACE might rethink this system but somehow I get the feeling that they won't.

    The OP, Courant101, has been a strong advocate for Crowfall and indeed has helped wherever he could. In a gaming community forum he's worth more than a thousand "yes" people.
     
    I'm sure that Pang will be accepting of anything ACE wants to produce, and will always back ACE vehemently. What he and many others don't realise is that game developers need lateral thinkers feedback too.

    Just remember, if it can be botted, it WILL be botted.  Don't for a moment think "low skill + low effort = low reward" will be any kind of deterrent because if someone can get millions of "low rewards" while they sleep, they will.  A poorly made sockston of a little thing is still a lot.  Ugh language filters make baby Jesus cry.  Especially this one that replaces words with whole phrases rather than just putting a few *s in there.  To reiterate, a shtton of a little thing, is still a lot.

    Agree with Courant that this is an important concern, but I also agree with JTC that the issue is in the balance not the systems themselves.
     
    For example, I farmed mobs in both Ultima Online and in Shadowbane but the time I needed to spend doing that was small compared to the time I spent in player interaction activities like pvp/politics/trade. So those games were fun for me because the balance worked.
     
    Eventually we'll get to test these systems, then we can give some loud feedback if the balance shifts too far into grind or p2w.
