  1. Who are we? The Gaean Remnant is a newly forming group of dedicated roleplayers that specializes in RP-PVP. ICly we maintain Gaea's Haven, a refugee camp dedicated to the dead goddess Gaea that is open to any RPers from any guild, and a military in the form of the Remnant Strike Force that answers to the democratic government of Gaea's Haven. What makes us different from other RP or PVP guilds? Two things, primarily: 1) All players are roleplayers. Everyone has a backstory, and we provide the backdrop and community for you to advance your own narratives.. 2) IC guild leadership is determined by the players, all of which is temporary. IC leadership structures are completely distinct from OOC leadership, freeing officers and even the GM to RP less powerful characters. For example, consider the process of becoming Khan (the leader of the military): Once per month, each player can declare Naqam (ritual combat - literally 'righteous vengeance'), arranging for a duel with the current Khan before the month's end. The Khan must accept all such challenges. Any players that defeat the Khan before the end of the month will be added to the list of Aspirants. Aspirants can then duel each other Aspirant only once that month officially, gaining a point if they win. In the first week of the next month, the points for all Aspirants are tallied. The Aspirant with the most points becomes the new Khan, and in the case of a tie must duel to decide the victor. The Khan is a military leader by divine right and will of Gaea as expressed through Naqam. They command armies in battle ICly, and their RP-PVP events have priority over other events. They answer only to the High Lord in charge of the civil government. ICly, what is the history of your guild? When war broke out following the death of the Greatmother Gaea, several former priestesses of the Fallen Lady banded together to transform their temple into Gaea's Haven - a place of refuge in her memory. Over time, a hybrid paramilitary-democratic system of checks and balances was established with the purpose of defending the refugees, ensuring that all who sought refuge could find it, and securing the souls increasingly used as currency for safekeeping. The unique position as a neutral entity has earned them relative peace in the Eternal Kingdoms, but also the secret ire of most of the Pantheon. Today many of their members are treated with diplomatic respect for their impartiality in the public forums of the Eternal Kingdoms...and killed on sight for it in the Dying Worlds. That relative peace in the Eternal Kingdom was very recently shattered by anonymous assailants, necessitating a complete reconstruction of Gaea's Haven and a search for new crows. The mass casualties have caused recently elected High Lord Kalai to restructure the military and institute the law of Naqam, establishing Divine Right to Rule the military through ceremonial duels. Though many silently doubt these actually represent the will of the Fallen Lady, none can deny their effectiveness in maintaining the martial prowess needed to secure a path for refugees. ICly, what are the purpose and objectives of your guild as a whole? Overarching purpose: To honor the memory of our Fallen Lady, the Greatmother Gaea. Objectives: 1) We will chronicle the history of the Dying Worlds, preserving the artifacts and tales of the innocent and the fallen. We will commemorate the accomplishments of the Crows, for good or ill - even those we have openly opposed. History is sacrosanct - all should be remembered as it was, as impartially as possible. Then too will Gaea be remembered. 2) We will defend all worlds from the War of the Gods as much as we are able, and bring a swift end to those who would destroy entire realms solely to fuel conflict in the Heavens. If necessary, we will win secure peace and souls through strength of arms. We will provide save refuge for any that seek it, and secure holdings on the worlds we can for those who seek such refuge to claim it. 3) If there is no alternative, we will ease or hasten the passing of these worlds, rather than have innocents reaped to fuel the warring of the Eternal Kingdoms or lost to the Hunger. Deny the remaining gods as many souls from these worlds as possible, lest their essences be used for war. 4) We will trade for the souls of the fallen, now used ignobly as currency by the Pantheon. We will secure as many as possible to our care. I'm not a combatant, but love RP. Can I still join? Absolutely! Our guild is an RP guild first, and although our military RP is a major part of what makes us unique, participation in Naqam or World PVP isn't a requirement. Rank advancement can be made purely through RP events as well, and ICly the guild has plenty of need for non-combatants. For instance, Collectors are merchants charged with the sacred duty of amassing as many of the souls used as currency in the Eternal Kingdoms as possible for their preservation. They must weigh the living costs of every transaction and respect the souls they trade, and by doing so honor the Fallen Lady. What are some other standard IC roles in the guild? IC Standard roles: Soldier - volunteer military combatants. Defenders of the Dying Worlds and protectors of Gaea's Haven. They can gain IC rank and engage in RP-PVP through participation and leadership in in-game events. They can also invoke the right of Naqam - ritual combat for temporary leadership as Khan of the military. The structure of Naqam is detailed under IC Leadership Roles: Khan. Conscript - non-volunteer military combatants. The people's militia of Gaea's Haven, called upon to support soldiers and protect the refuge in times of imminent attack. All able-bodied refugees are required to register as conscripts and may be called upon if Gaea's haven is attacked. Collector - merchant, charged with the sacred duty of amassing as many of the souls used as currency in the Eternal Kingdoms as possible for their preservation. Must weigh the living costs of every transaction and respect the souls they trade. Devotee - Non-combatant, Non-merchant servant of the Fallen Lady. Includes healers, magical entertainers, evangelicals of Gaea, and caretakers of souls now used as currency. Refugee - Those who have sought a safe, neutral area to escape to in the Eternal Kingdoms. How is the IC leadership organized? Khan, IC Rank/Military Determined by divine providence, as expressed by weekly ritual combat (duels): Once per week, players can declare Naqam (ritual combat - literally 'righteous vengeance'), arranging for a duel with the current Khan before the Saturday of that week. The Khan must accept all such challenges. Any players that defeat the Khan before Saturday will be added to the list of Aspirants. Aspirants can then duel each other Aspirant only once that week and gain a point if they win. On Saturday, the points for all Aspirants are tallied. The Aspirant with the most points becomes the new Khan, and in the case of a tie must duel to decide the victor. The Khan is a military leader by divine right and will of Gaea. They command armies in battle ICly, and their RP-PVP events have priority over other events. They answer only to the High Lord in charge of the civil government. Champion, IC Rank/Military A title awarded to any former Khan. An IC mark of military prowess. High Lord, IC Rank/Civilian The IC leader of the guild, elected by popular vote every three months. Executive in charge of the civil government, that also has the power to declare war on other factions. Loremaster: IC Rank/Civilian Awarded to those who successfully reclaim historical artifacts from the Dying Worlds and commemorate the accomplishments of players from other guilds after the world is destroyed. They are chroniclers, preservers of lost history in the records of the Eternal Kingdoms. How is the OOC leadership organized? OOC Rank: GM The GM, whose role is to ensure that other positions serve the cause of the guild and provide direction, discussion, or story during lulls in player RP. The Imperator is to be the final arbitrator during disputes between Counselors, to develop and maintain officer training materials for conflict resolution, and provide the tools for others to create RP or PVP experiences. OOC Rank: Officer Officers. They are expected to encourage RP-PVP experiences, arbitrate disputes between members, and screen new members before inviting them. Players must demonstrate mastery in conflict resolution by passing a training program and commit to serving the interests of other players before themselves to be considered for a Counselor position. Disputes between counselors should be handled privately out of consideration for others, and the Imperator is expected to arbitrate if necessary. In exchange for their service, Counselors have access to hidden forums that help develop the 'backdrop story' - the major arcs that are intended to inspire personal RP or guild RP events that players develop. Counselors also have a say in developing guild relations. My questions weren't listed here. Where can I find some answers? Try the New Player Forums. How do I apply?
