Favorite Mmo Music?

I'm a huge movie score buff, and video games have become a big part of that over the years.  There is some exceptional AAA musical talent on games like TOR and WoW, regardless of how one might feel about the game formulas.  What are your favorites?  Background atmosphere, songs (artist collabs welcome!) and instrumental themes?

This action queue from SWTOR is one of my favorites.  So much of that soundtrack hits the John Williams vein of awesomeness of the SW movies, a score you could count on to be excellent even when the movies failed to deliver.  I've played dozens of Star Wars games over the years, and most (even SWG) only had recycled Williams music, which is GREAT but had nothing new.  There were a few exceptions: Shadows of the Empire, The Force Unleashed, and then Old Republic.

Of all the tracks, including the majestic Alderaan suite, the above is the one that closest felt like a spiritual successor to Williams' scores.

I can't quite find the track, but my favourite has to be theme for the final coil of bahamut.

As for second, I have to say the spiral knights ost. Here's a good example:

And another good example:

Even though the zones might not be the best, the track just brings so many emotions

Lastly Phantasy Star Online has some of the best music in any MMO period. However, there's one song which I still remember now which is :

First time I heard it, I thought it was incredibly weird and out of place, but it still loved  :P .

Holy crap, all games I never played... well, I played PSO but didn't like it.  I grew up with the Phantasy Star franchise, and IV was the first video game where I was emotionally invested in the characters and even got choked up.  It and Shadowrun for Genesis were the first time I realized just what power video games could have for storytelling.

I absolutely can't stand the FF franchise normal games, but XIV looks gorgeous and sounds pretty amazing all around, a complete turnaround from how it initially started.

I never even heard of Spiral Knights but I'm digging the music a lot.  Very JRPG sounding, but not tedious like so much JRPG/anime music that does the same thing, it actually holds my interest really well.

I may not have liked the game, but the PSO song is really catchy.  Reminds me a LOT of Yoko Kanno's funky style, like this one from Cowboy Bebop... this is a slow burn, almost atmospheric song, but it picks up SO well in the middle, if you have it playing while you're doing stuff and the epic hits, it works really well (I get goosebumps every time).  I know it's cheating as it's not MMO music, but all the same, set this on, keep it in the background, you don't have to pay direct attention if you don't want to... and when it hits the midway point, prepare to soar: http://youtu.be/x7tkWy7rEvQ

Do people not like music? I thought this thread would become much more popular.

I wasn't alive back when the original phantasy star games were made so I never got the full chance to experience them. I actually found PSO last year. After being seriously disappointed in Archeage, I decided it was time to hunt for a MMO. I looked back through history trying to find a good old MMO that I might have missed when I found PSO I and II for the gamecube. Gamecube was my first console so I was instantly intrigued, after all, I didn't even know you could connect the gamecube to the internet. I had to play in a private server since the official servers were shot down but I still bought episode III and zero because they were cheap. I don't know what was it about the game but I instantly fell in love with it after the News reporter mission. The game sorta had a weird sort of atmosphere which is kinda hard to describe. It was so immersive for me even though that by today's standards, the graphics and combat look really bad and dated.

Anyway, I'll stop digressing since the thread is about epic soundtracks after all!

I love Yoko Kanno and cowboy bebop, especially that scene with spike (Not gonna spoil it for other people since its so great!)

Believe it or not she did the sound for Ragnarock Online 2. It's a shame the game wasn't very good because it had a really great soundtrack. Here's a couple of examples for a fellow Kanno fan:

aaaand i could go all day showing great examples of RO2 soundtrack but I'll move on.

Unfortunately, I was too young to experience FFXi at its prime, however it still offered some great tunes. The best I've found was Distant Worlds:

This song was sung by Susan Calloway, who also song the ending tune to FFXiV.

The best Battle music of any MMO goes hand down to Shin Megami Tensei IMAGINE. Period. There's no MMO OST that comes close. Here's a couple of examples:

Pretty much the entire soundtrack is one pile of gold. Its a shame that decided to close down the servers in English, apparently the Japanese server is running but it seems like too much of a hassle.

Finally I'll end with some PSO2. They did a vacaloid concert in game and since I'm a big miku fan I completely loved it! Here's a link to live concert:

PSO2 English release when? :P
