Attention Carebears: Pvp Info For You Here

Welcome, from one of your own.

Whatever brought you here to Crowfall may not have mentioned the apparently PvP centric nature of the game.  I came from a Reddit post about some of the devs being from SWG that didn't say a word about ffa PvP and The Great Anticipation of Slaughtering Squishycores.

So you might be a bit taken aback by the thought of having to PvP your way through the landscape to gather mats for crafting or concerned about losing your inventory if you get killed while crafting rare mats into an uber item.

Or perhaps you're like me and you just don't like PvP and don't want to be forced to fight other players in self defense.

I'd like to invite you to hang around for a bit more.  Yes, it's going to be PvP.  And it's not likely that there will just be a few areas for PvP while the bulk of the world will be safe zones - rather it's likely that the only safe areas are bases that players build and defend nonstop.

But I think if there's enough of us then we'll be able to make our playstyle work.  Guilding asap is important as a guild will find you valuable for your crafted items or social skills or ability to mediate between warring factions.  Gearing up with the best gear you can will allow you to win what PvP battles you're involved in if you take the time to learn and practice a bit the basics of PvP.

The founders and the developers of this game have made some of the greatest games I've played and it's worth sticking with this.  It's worth dealing with the uber l337's and the "let's drive out the newbs lol what?"s and the "this game's not for you carebear"s because Crowfall has such a wide range of possibilities right now that we don't actually know what kind of game it is yet.

It could be amazing.  Enough of us could make a difference on how enjoyable the game is for carebears and fluffybunnies.  For those that RP - enough of us could make a home on one of the servers and run insanely dynamic storylines in crazy, adrenaline filled environments.  It's not just that "danger may be near" - it's that danger IS near and it's in the form of the other players.

Please stay.  I'm staying.  Until the devs announce that there's a bounty for every squishy and carebears are not allowed to guild, I'm staying.

These guys have made great games indeed, though i did not have the privilege to play these games its what i always hear about when it comes to great games and for that im more then willing to check out a modern game they are creating. Def stick around you may think you dont enjoy PvP now but i converted so many PvErs in GW2 to play WvW(mass 3 server pvp) almost exclusively after them having a fair chance to learn what its about and how fun it really is.

I don't want to kill more rats, fill another experience point bar or collect another meaningless badge. I want to play a GAME against PLAYERS, where my actions, my decisions and my SKILL will determine if I win or lose. Allies. Enemies. Alliances. Betrayal. risk. Conquest. To compete with THOUSANDS of other players for a chance to claim the THRONE. Even if i lose, the experience won't feel hollow. I don't want another worthless trophy.

Great Post!  I wish more of the "carebear" crowd were as optimistic as you.  I'd love to see a guild of crafters, that aren't into PVP.  It drives the economy (as It gives a place for me to buy stuff so I dont have to craft it!) and it gives me more targets to kill!  Great idea!

Honestly, Guilds in these types of games need all sorts to function properly - a guild of just l33t pvp kids tends to last about 5 mins.

Or five years. I agree that we'll need crafters and gatherers in this game, but guilds can last a good long while with just pvp'ers.

always room for Crafters...imo

you'll find plenty of Killers to gather and escort you, IF you can make the gear they want

get in with a good Guild and i think any playstyle can have their Fun, as long as they can deal with it when things go wrong as easily as they can when it all goes right

cuz when it works....it really does *taste* better....

Well I'm a Carebear and I've been on this forum since it opened.

Some of my carebear friends were turned off by the way the forum initially was. I understand it was not for everyone.

The forum itself has evolved and more meaningful discussions are taking place with the new information that is coming from ACE.

Our forum is becoming a Crowfall community with it's own personality. It has carebears, hard core and people that are in between both.

Actually I like being a carebear because I can ask noob questions and allow myself to reveal that I'm not a tough hardened Zeena warrior woman.

Having said all that I believe that the carebears are more receptive to the information that is being divulged from the dev's. e.g no preconceived ideas.

Nice thread OP.

Merc guilds thrive off of this kind of thing.  They protect the crafters, and they get gear!  Its kind of mofioso, but it works!  Besides, extortion is fun!

Grrr.  I hate hate HATE that this got moved to off topic.

This post is designed to catch the eye of folks that are coming to check out the game and no one goes to off topic - they go to general discussion.

The target audience for this is not going to see this post here and it's effectively useless at this point.

Please move it back to general or it's going to get lost down here and you'll be reinforcing the image that us carebears are simply screwed when it comes to Crowfall.

Oridi while I understand how you feel about this being moved to off topic, allow me to explain why.

The CF forum was most toxic for at least a good week or two, with several heated discussions on Shadowbane vs carebears.

We've been trying to move on from that initial hate session and progress to ... Crowfall community.

It took a lot for me to not close this thread altogether. Especially with the title and the targeted audience. I understand what you are trying to do, but these types of threads never go well.

I'd like to invite you to hang around for a bit more.  Yes, it's going to be PvP.  And it's not likely that there will just be a few areas for PvP while the bulk of the world will be safe zones - rather it's likely that the only safe areas are bases that players build and defend nonstop.

If you truly loathe PvP that much and desire to avoid it as much as possible, maybe it would be in your best interest to find a guild as early as possible and become their official crafter?  The members could bring materials to you and let you work in the comfort of the town or castle.  You may be called upon to PvP if the town is attacked, but I assume that was the duty of any smith during the olden days.

Initially you may have to venture out on your own to obtain raw materials, but once you have made a little cash for yourself and become established, you may very well be able to ask others to gather for you in exchange for gear or gold while staying in the comfort of your home.  And as others have suggested, you could hire people to escort you on gathering runs.

Options are available.  And who knows, if you beat someone over the head with your mining pick, you may find you actually enjoy it.

Sorry you turned into a two-bit carebear whose feelings get hurt over forum banter.
