siberain 56 Share Posted January 24, 2015 The rumors state it will improve performance dramatically and even help lesser gpus to perform better. Thoughts? Any chance a dev can shed some light? ☥ The Black Watch "I knew a man once who said, 'Death smiles at us all. All a man can do is smile back.' lucius 437 Share Posted January 24, 2015 Would be interesting, especially since everyone with Win7 and newer are getting free upgrades to Win10, so we don't need to worry about dx12 being added to the older OS's.

vektyr 11 Share Posted January 25, 2015 As I understand it, the benefits of DX12, primarily full multi-core support, will benefit all games. Eston

It will also cure cancer and produce a pleasant wildflower scent. No offense, but they probably say that about every new version of DirectX. For instance, here's the blurb for DirectX 11: "DirectX 11 includes numerous improvements. It's designed to be more efficient, leverage the power of today's multi-core processors, and provide support for sophisticated shading and texturing techniques such as tessellation." Arthidon 99 Share Posted March 14, 2015 Meh, doubt crowfall will require that much anyway. Graphically the game is very simple and should not require this. DirectX 12 is kinda needed from a client side perspective for any game rendering thousands of units. This game http://www.ashesofthesingularity.com/ is not possible really without it. The differences between DirectX 12 and 11 on a CPU throttled game could be 12 to 1 ratio. Again, mainly because the many players on the screen essentially. DX 12 is a god send for this. Genobee 46 Share Posted March 19, 2015 (edited) There was a thread on this already. Basically newer versions of Unity 5 will support DX12. If the creators of Crowfall find the time to update to a newer iteration then they may very well be capable of utlizing it. Question is whether or not they will. Updating an engine can be a costly endeavor that requires a great deal of time. So who knows. Guess it depends on if M$ makes DX12 Win10 exclusive. That will be largely irrelevant. Windows 10 will be free to both windows 7 and windows 8 users at release. Edited March 19, 2015 by Genobee Zellith 1 I'm not an idiot, I simply choose not to think. headlight 5,744 Share Posted March 24, 2015 From this: http://www.worldsfactory.net/2015/03/23/crowfall-interview-mmorpg-strategy Microsoft demonstrated great performance gains with DirectX 12 at GDC 2015. This should be especially useful for games with many “units” on screen such as MMOs, as draw calls cease to be a problem – are you planning to use DX12 at launch and if so, how? Our Engineering team is very excited about the early performances that have been shown with DX12. Dx12 has shown some awesome gains in the draw call area, and could be a game changer for future games. We are definitely interested. zinnie 2,399 Share Posted April 1, 2015 Since CF is 2 years from release, it would be pretty weird not to update engine to DX12, since in a year most people that had win7 or win8 will have win10 and DX12. Eston
Inasyah 237 Share Posted April 16, 2015 It probably will be more cpu than gpu heavy comparing it to similar titles that bring a lot of players in pvp battles on one point like GW2 wvw. But we will see how it plays out. Unity 5 is a well made engine and gives a lot of options to optimize - only time and testing will tell. ,,...You get killed over and over again, that doesn't mean the game is unbalanced - it means that You are a bad player" -JTC
Psyctooth 177 Share Posted May 1, 2015 I think it has more to do with programmers being comfortable working with DirectX11 libraries than DirectX12 libraries based on personal experience. There is also an unwillingness to switch to technologies which force a hardware barrier on customers which seems established within X number of years (usually three to four years) of release, (DirectX11 2009, DirectX12 2014). Developers tend to be very hesitant in locking people out because they own a graphics card from 2010 that doesn't support DirectX12 for example. Still doesn't mean they shouldn't explore the option of supporting DirectX12. The simple matter of fact is, DirectX12 is a brand spanking new set of render libraries, very few programmers who make video games understand the new changes yet and how to make use of them and of the programmers who specialize in that field of programming who work at companies such as Unity Technologies or Epic have onlylast year or so had the chance to learn how to work with and integrate the libraries new features.
