Go go, Ranger powers! Official discussion thread

Potentially. But Barrage only hits a max of 5 players in the circle.

 

Fair, but still effective and new.  I will be interested to see if this winds up stagnating combat more: from constant movement but usually engagement, to more retreating and less engagement.

 

Edit: I'm not sure that any of these things will happen, they are just things I am on the lookout for.

If the ranger is doing that much damage, I hate to see what the stalker does. Or is the ranger no longer classified as a specialist?

 

Don't forget the 50k health pool, and how long the charge of the basic attacks are quite long. Maybe people will start to play with their evade skills too instead of fighting with no move.

 

Anyway can't wait to test it (maybe tomorrow?)

Blair you do realize that you got 1 left click basic attack off while the mob was under suppression before the simple AI tagged you back with a ranged shot.

Thats because mobs dont actually get suppressed like players do

One of my favorite counters in more action-based combat is physical evasion.  I'd love to see some double-tapping movement key evades implemented.

One thought, though hardly new... Watching video I recalled how people criticized graphics. 'Kinda... Somewhat... Meh...'

 

Oh, my. :D And that's Pre-Alpha. So glad I am founder. Don't get me wrong, graphics not the only reason, in fact that was last thing I cared about. And now I see that will be also incredible.

Absolutely not.  I'm expecting to see the ecology of this combat keep evolving, and adding an ingredient as potent as ranged DPS is sure to create a lot of opportunities to change the game for the better.

The charge time seems a bit long on bow attacks. Maybe lower the charge time and lower the damage. That's just my reaction from the video. I will test her out in the hunger dome and maybe my opinion changes. 

 

EDIT: Can any of these attacks (even the standard attack) be released early to do less damage but fire arrows more quickly? 

 

Yes, that wasn't clear, the damage scales based on how long you hold (which means that you can release early for less damage).  The mechanic is similar to the Shield Bash (2) power on the Knight.

Same concern as well, though I have to think who ever was playing during that demo was mostly thinking about just showing off the actual powers and not movement. But yeah Ranger should be able to still move albeit more slowly when attacking, IMO.

I didn't forget that, nor did I forget that everyone has 50k now, not just knights :P

 

The ranger is doing 5-6k per fully charged basic attack. That's as much as a confessor's fully charged meteor purge.

 

I think they are banking on rangers not being able to hit as often due to range/aiming, but I don't know if it will play out that way. If someone is in the ranger's face, sure, but if they are unmolested, aiming will be a lot easier.

Yeap, that's what i was thinking. AND Meteor purge crits as high as 15k :D  Well, that's the highest i have seen it ;D  If we see that on the primary for the Ranger ,that can be somewhat spammed, it's going to be WAY too fun :D

You need to stand still while charging the ranged abilities, but you don't have to charge it all the way. The more you charge it, the more damage it does (to a point).

Absolutely.  I fully expect things to go pretty poorly because adding a truly ranged DPS class completely changes the battlefield; melee classes will need to be overpowered in their own way to counter the Ranger's power.

 

Man that Ranged AoE is going to destroy people early in testing, given how the battlefield currently tends to configure itself.

 

Doesn't any of the armor yield resistances to specific attacks (piercing, crushing, slashing)?  I don't remember from the videos so you would have to tell me lol.  But if there are resistances, you can count on that reducing damage I would assume fairly significantly if fully armored.  If not than ignore my statement lol.

 

The ranger looks awesome though, don't like the "duck face" lol, but her powers are amazing and it is everything I could have hoped for in a ranger.  Siege Perilous can't come soon enough for me lol.

When they add momentum to attacks, i think it would be good if charged abilities could still move albiet at a reduced speed. Otherwise the ranger would be immobile
