At least use a link to a test.

Turned out to be accurate (40A/73E/20G/67S).

I play singleplayer games mostly to explore and achieve, multiplayer to socialize and explore.

Well I think it's a fact singleplayer games are difficult to socialize with. In my opinion same goes for achieving in multiplayer games.

All of those ....and more!

The world has not enough boxes to label me...Bartles has been around for 20+ years now and I found there are undefined categories that may not have existed in the 70s and 80s .......

For example...

While I enjoy murdering and being murdered (albeit, much less enjoyable) - I am awestruck and the art and story in a well crafted game. Tell me the grit of Diablo didnt catch you deep down. While there was a goal "achiever" for everyone - I believe the soul touching grit alone is what kept some people playing.

What about hitting those "3d" dungeons in Bards tale for the first time - it was fascinating. Sure maybe you were an "explorer" in those dungeons- with your little graph paper by the side of your commodore 64 - but you also played countless hours because of the immersion you had into that "3d" world and the feeling that you were part of a changing world. It didnt have to be a pen and paper with some dice and a GM - you now got to actually explore a real dungeon.

What about the first time you played a game and just were in awe of the artwork. There are plenty of times where im as fascinated by the sheer beauty of the world im looking at through my monitor.

So yeah - Ill take all four and add plenty of others.

If you want to compare your results with other CF players use this group info:

Group name: Crowfall

Group Pin: 2325

Retrieval Code: crowcaine

Hah hey good to know that my test results are what I've already voted on in this post lol. Glad I know myself. I want to simultaneously be a jerk that everybody loves and apparently I'm not the only one! Plenty of Killer/Socalizers out there!

I don't really need a test to know, lol. I once spent two hours hunting a guy through three areas killing him many many times. I feel like spending hours killing the same guy over and over again through that many zones says more than a test could. I didn't do it purely for my own fun, I caught the guy hanging around lowbie zones (the first zone you COULD hunt low level players in freely) and chased him right out. It was like...80% cuz I wanted to, 15% cuz the guy was rude and 5% to protect the lowbies.

Edit: Besides, I don't think anybody is cut and dry anything. I'm a big fan of combat in games, but I also love to explore. I have almost as much fun finding cool things as I do stabbing people with cool things.

Socializer killer :P

"Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come."

Explorer - Socialiser.....makes me think hard about my position in a wvw-guild in gw2 x'D

Let me sing you a song / Of a world that just vanished / Of a story that ended to soon
Let me bring you a cup / Make a toast to the living / And a toast to the legends we share

I spotted this on Richard's Facebook this morning and thought it was interesting enough to share here.

When my player types paper was published 20 years ago, its findings were criticised by psychologists for not being testable. The model talks about what players find fun, but independently verifying what any individual player is _actually_ finding fun is very difficult. Only the player really knows, and even then they may not be aware of the answer until they reflect upon it.

The usual psychological methods of divining a person’s motivation from observing their actions don’t work. It is possible to watch what players are doing, of course, but that doesn’t mean you know _why_ they’re doing it. For example, to identify a player as a socialiser you might think to track the number of times that player communicates – yet explorers will often communicate between themselves to try figure something out. Likewise, guild chat could be gossip or an achiever-laden discussion of raid tactics.

My response to this early criticism hasn’t changed over the years: it’s valid, but I don’t care. The theory isn’t for psychologists to use to gain a deeper understanding of what’s going through players’ heads; it’s for designers to use to make stable worlds with wide appeal. The point isn’t whether or not some individual player is a killer, achiever, explorer or socialiser: the point is that there are significant numbers of players of these types in the player base.

Actually, even this is over-stating what I was hoping to achieve with Player Type theory. I wasn’t trying to say that _these_ are these four types of player; I was trying to say that there _are_ different types of player, not just the one favoured by the designer, and that all of them are needed for the virtual world to be healthy. I was expecting the paper to be shot down within six months and the theory replaced by a better one. However, the fact it remains as difficult today as it was back then to perform an MRI scan on someone for 4 hours while they play an MMO means it still has some traction.

Although there is an underlying explanation for why the theory works (at least for MMOs), there’s no solid empirical testing to affirm (or deny) it in practice. Normally, science works the other way round: from the observations, you make hypotheses which you can then test predictively. If you can’t test it, which is the case for Player type theory, it’s more philosophy or religion than science.

Hmm. The sooner someone can replace this work with something less faith-based, the better…

Muhrder 40% (50th%) 40% (50th%) 87% (99th%) 33% (50th%)

Yup and looking through the rest of that list. Seeing the majority of carebears who abhor the Griefer/Killer mentality amuses me.

Achiever - 47%

Explorer - 33%

Griefer - 80%

Socializer - 40%

I think the three are pretty balanced due to me leveraging those three things to allow me to become a better PKer lol.

Apparently i'm 80% achiever which surprised me at first since I've never been one for going after in game trophies or leader boards, but suppose it makes since because I tend to go after tougher bosses and try to solo them for the heck of it or crafting that cool item because it looks cool. I've been being an achiever wrong all these years and didn't know it.

But many of the answers seemed a toss up to me so easy to skew with only 2 answers/quesion.

So took the test again changing the answers for the toss up choice and got 80% explorer and only 40% achiever so possibly toss up between explorer and achiever.
