New Headphones

I am looking for a new pair of headphones with around a $200-$300 max budget. I want them for fps games, mmos, and music like trap or dubstep. So far i have been looking at the audio technica m50x's and the hyperXcloud 2's. At the moment i am using the hyperXcloud core which the mic is broken and i have to fiddle with the cord for the right ear cup to work, and i have a pair of logitech g930's. I know open back headphones are usually better for fps games but i feel usually they lack bass and i also have a noisy house and travel a lot so i would prefer a closed-back headphone design as well as a detachable mic (if it comes with a mic).

Thanks!

I have owned and used

Razer Carcharias

Astro a40
Beyerdynamic dt770

Beyerdynamic mx300

Sennheiser game zero

Sennheiser game one

Sony ma900

and spent hundreds of hours on research.

A couple things to help narrow it down

- head size small, med or big?

- do you like leather or velour ear pads?

- how important is the weight of the headset?

- detachable mic... have you looked at an attachable mic like the modmic? it sticks onto a headset and has its own cable

- do you want usb or 3.5mm plugs?

- if you could have an open headset WITH bass would you want that more, or still CLOSED to block out noise?

But if it was me right now with $300, I would get...

Fostex t50rp mk3 Headphones

Ant Lion MODmic

Total: $280

This gives you basically the best headphones you can get for less than $500 and will. have for years and years, closed back with great bass. Great QUALITY sound with the dac/amp (you need this to power the headphones.. if you just plug them into the computer they will be under powered and sound bad) has a bass BOOST if you want a lot of thump and you can use this for future headphones as well. And the Modmic is the best sounding mic you could get on a headphone, plus you can move it to different headsets in the future.

I use a modmic now, use a dac/amp and IF i got a closed set of headphones these would be the choice.

Good luck!

PS... if you don't want to mess with a dac/amp (even tho it makes it sound better) then Id get a Beyedynamic dt770 pro 80ohm with a mod mic...if you dont want to mess with a separate cable with the modmic the last resort would be the Sennheiser Game Zero.

1. big

2. don't care

3. doesn't matter

4. i have looked at the mod mic and i would either choose that or an actual mic

5. 3.5 mm so i would be able to use an amp

6. if i could have bass with open back headphones i would take the open back

Right now what you said though looks great for what i want but if you have any more options that i can compare it to that would be great

Also the amp didn't seem the best is there any other that may be better if it is within $150 i would be fine with it

Heres a good list of headphones and review info: https://www.reddit.com/r/Zeos/comments/3tu9gl/guide_headphones_gaming/

--- i fixed all my links in the original post, formatting ---

Two more dac/amps below... tho the Fiio e10k is as good or better than the more expensive ones below. You would need to spend about $250 for a noticeably better dac/amp like the O2/Odac amp (what I use)

Micca Origen: $110

Monoprice: $110

Another GOOOD option I would really look at is a Fidelio x2 with a vmoda mic. You only have 1 cable which is nice, OPEN headset with good sound stage and great bass.

Fidelio X2 Headphones

Vmoda

Total: $330

ps. if you want a cheaper option which are very good still (maybe not as much bass as you want)

Philips 9500 - $85

Ok thanks for all the help i think i have decided on getting the FiiO E10k as well as the Fostek t50rp's. Although in the review of the Fiio E10k he said that he thought the smsl m2 was better, would that be better? (and would i need a battery for it?) As for the mic i don't know what i will go with but at the moment that doesn't matter. Thanks soooo much i have been looking for the perfect pair of headphones for me for probably a year or 2 now and i think this may be the solution

:)
