Please don't make the same mistake Albion Online did.

Recommended Posts

Please stay committed to a cruel and punishing world of PVP and hardcoreish elements. You will have a ton of people cry and then you will change it to become more care bear thinking it will appeal to a larger audience thus generating more revenue for you. In actuality, it will kill the game completely.

Albion online was fked from the beginning. A game designed from the ground up to be desktop and tablet friendly which revolved around punishing pvp. Who in their right mind would pvp on a tablet? A lot of designs were based on tablet compatibility, like graphics, UI and zone size/layout. By the time they realized no one wanted to play this pos on the tablet it was already too late to reverse course.

Albion tried to be too many things to too many people. Tablet players don't want to get ganked and desktop players don't want to play something that looks like dookie and plays like a busted up league of legends.

Throw in an extended beta phase, a horrible grind, a lot of back-peddling and you got yourself a winner.

They just need to be careful with how far they go with it. A lot of players enjoy OwPvP games that haven't played Darkfall/Shadowbane. You can attract them to this game if you do it right and they'll have fun with a hardcore atmosphere as long as it doesn't go too far from what they're used to. I think the campaign system will work well for this, allowing these players to find rulesets they like. But as with anything, going too far towards any extreme doesn't work well. You need money to keep this game alive and a decent sized playerbase is the way to go. They don't need to go mainstream and try to attract players that this game was never intended for, but they do need to be careful with their design decisions so as to not alienate actual potential players/guilds.

Nice thing about ACE is they can do anything and everything, just depends on the rule set at the start of a campaign. Gives them a lot of creative freedom to play with.

I have to agree, the campaign system is a pretty genius idea. Granted they have yet to implement it so there's plenty of time to screw it up. But if it pans out it'll be amazing.

If they can get combat right and the campaign system right, they'll be fine. That'll give them enough wiggle room to screw up on a few other systems because the game will be fun enough at that point that they'll have time to fix the other things.

The campaign system is great because it creates a natural feeder system so people can progress up and down whether they want to be a softcore pvper or hardcore pvper.

Some games can be too unforgiving and turn people off too quickly but with crowfall's multiple bands people can get their feet wet where they are most comfortable.
