New Support Class (Portal Creator)

Recommended Posts

I was thinking it would be fun to play a support class that is "Spirit".

  • It is unable to deal damage
  • It is always "invisible", but still able to take damage from AE (Area Effect) spells/abilities.
  • It can be seen by those that can see the spirit world.
  • It can move very quickly in any direction (to include flight).
  • It can "split" itself into two "spirit shards".
  • The spirit can toggle between the two spirit shards.
  • Each Spirit Shard can be turned into a portal that leads to the other shard.  Doing this makes the shards immobile and visible to everyone.
  • Crafters can build archways to give the shards structure and protection, as well as entrapping the spirit.
  • Once Entrapped, the spirit can "release" itself and go back to it's Crow form and make the portals "permanent" until destroyed.

This class is meant to be used as a scout or a forward base.  It can also be used to aid quicker movement around castles/kingdoms.

Not having very good reflexes for pvp and being too impatient for harvesting and crafting, I'd love to play a spiritual class that can materialize itself into a a cook stove, and also split itself into shards that can manifest themselves as kitchenware. Given the hunger mechanics, I think it is possible to expect quite a few people playing it.

Then you can Make the "Spirit" visible to all, still unable to deal damage, and moves very slowly.  This would make the journey to the new location very dangerous.

There could also be a limit to the distance the two spirit shards can be before the second one dies forcing multiple Spirits to make a chain and allowing enemies to make a break in the "Supply line".

i'd rather have an archetype with an ability that creates a portal that has limited uses and has a long cooldown and doesn't have too long range.

The only thing i can think of about having purely a portal character would be that it's either useless or way too powerful so there's no point in having a archetype to have just do the portal, but an ability to a complete kit would seem ok if it wasn't too powerful. I wouldn't mind having an ability like Symmetra teleport in Overwatch, but with limited range.

My goal is to think of a class that most will not play, but for those that do, they could VASTLY support their teammates.  That is why I suggest they cannot deal damage.  Making a support/specialist class that doesn't deal damage will deter most away from it.  So those few that take the challenge will be praised among their peers.

No, no and more no...

+1

Anything that has to do with bypasing terrain and supply chains using any kind of summoning or portal has in my opinion no place in crowfall. It would take away to many strategic aspects.

Im for the idea of another support archtype but not this one.

Support and being perma invis is also a pretty bad idea as the main point of the support is to make allies stronger. So enemy support players are usally under focus fire for that reason. Its not like this game has any big AoEs.

Also the doesnt do any dmg is no reason other wont play it. Think about it in most games in the past strong support clases had mostly no or nearly no dmg. These support classes where still played by many people for the same reason you want to play such a class. You are not the only one that enjoys playing the support of a team.

That beeing said there is enough time to think of another idea. Its highly unlikely that any kind of new archtype will be addet to the dev road until month after release.

They have to first bring in the allready planned Archtypes.

There's very little consequence to "switching class". Just like there's very little consequence to "switching ship" in EVE Online. You bring the class to the fight that's necessary for the team. In this aspect, if the support class allows people to maneuver around game mechanics and other obstacles the class will ALWAYS be used by the team.

Also wanted to add a big old no, simply because it's dumb.
There are many people on this forum that argue having multiple accounts would be of major benefit, and I think an Archetype like this would only reinforce that. Train up your main and have your second account be a mobile, invisible teleporter.
Ignoring the multiple account issues, being able to move an army almost for free is unacceptable.
