Druid Life

We've created these cool armor set bonuses that open up things like Stun & Lifesteal - Yay!

Only those bonuses don't work - Aw.

You can train skill-nodes which benefit Resource pools - Yay!

Not so fast, it doesn't work for Druids and their Essence - Aw.

We've added a new Resource, Soul Power, that you can use your Nature Orbs to build up for others, AND yourself - Yay!

The C Power that Soul Power is used for, no longer works for you - Aw.

We know your offensive abilities suck, but at least you are the 2nd best healer - Yay!

Oh wait, we've added another AT that can heal, and it's much better than you - Aw.

I got tired after 4. There are others. Welcome to Druid Life.

If you mean via the hard-to-land Wisp and the decreased AoE heal, it would be theoretical at best. I guess we'll have to see what if anything they've fixed in this next version to see what we're working with, and if it's better than the Templar heal.

With the changes to C I think the druids have more healing output then a legio. T/F?

Possibly true in the abstract. Definitely false in practice.

The Druid healing delivery method requires your healed target to cooperate (generally meaning stand custard still for a second) and people in the process of dying tend to run around like chickens with their heads cut off.

Lego on the other hand has a group HoT on 6 that is thoughtless, a big heal on C that is thoughtless and a main heal with a low CD (and auto self-heal) that requires about as much aiming and thoughtful use as an instant cast flamethrower.

It does make it closer, but not close enough. If Druids still brought any real damage or CC (or if AE still did any damage) then Druid would be a reasonable choice as opposed to Lego. Or if Barkskin still did any real damage and cut through Myrm C they would be a seldom-used counter to Myrms. That, unfortunately, is not the case.

That Barkskin nerf wasn't only a Druid nerf. It was another indirect Myrm and Fessor buff as well as it removed something that was a pretty solid counter to both of those relatively OP (and fully overplayed) ATs.

Really want to see it bring more CC to the table. I think it would make it a desirable support if it had healing on the level it does now (ok, a little better, it's pretty poorly made socks for anyone except for yourself because of the chickens with no heads...), but could actually continue to support in the death tray.

I said it in the druid changes thread, but as it is right now, it feels more like it should be a DPS or Specialist that is labeled as Hybrid, except that it has no DPS... It is just a mediocre support.

Reminds me of druid in another game I played where it couldn't heal as well as other classes, couldn't direct damage as well as pure casters, and didn't have dots as good as the dot classes; thus it was never desired for a group, but was a pretty good solo class. This design works when there's more than 2 support options.

For harvesting druid is pretty much the Queen though...   I now have enough Stam and Stam regen to 3-blink...   very hard to catch if you keep an eye out but avoidance is a dance that doesn't help much in battle.   Restore the damage to HD levels particularly that strong aurora emitter, this is a good power and has to be strong enough to force an enemy to separate from his group or kill his own, not hard to see or mitigate but otherwise worthless as is...  Thorns is the same, it should be strong but have a short duration relative to CD so it's use is not continuous but more situational.  It is OK for shroud to fail to stun occasionally and should have a node in the AT skill tree to make stuns more likely.

Agreed. Did you get into 3-blink territory entirely through skill-training or did some of that stam come from gear? I've got everything stam-related trained - I am fairly sure - but I'm still a hair off. I need stam from gear to manage it...

I do think we make great harvesters, especially when you throw the stun from Shroud into the mix. I would still like to be more useful in battle though, as you say. Maybe they can make Gaea's Wail a ray - there is some basis for this, both in what they've done for Ranger and how a wail/shout should work, traveling in a bit of a cone.

Ah, yeah I still haven't had time in any of the recent testing to be able to craft a proper weapon. Thanks.

I've been thinking that a small group of 3 Druids might actually be surprisingly effective, all blinking around - like a game of 3-card monte. :)

yep... stam weap, armor does not give stam, I have harvest crit chance:stone leather.

  • 1 month later...

Interesting how everyone says the Druid is very underperforming right now. Hope they tweak a few things after the Disc's come out...

Sure that will shake up the Meta as well as make other classes broken or underpowered.

Honestly after more time playing the Druid, the problems are not so much those of design - apart from the Essence mechanic being an burden until deep into skill training. and the lack of a single-target damage power - but more of that the Druid rarely if every functions as designed. It has many powers which either do not work correctly or simply don't work at all...I think if it every happens that everything works as intended all the time, it will be good enough to be something viable once factor in good gear, skill training and disciplines. Right now though, it is kind of a hot mess...with more mess than hot.
