First Look: Forts

Recommended Posts

Looking good. I have a feeling these will be fairly common at the start of campaign worlds as guilds pool their resources for the bigger things.

The campfire in the center is silly. There are 2 chimneys in the front, so why not put fireplaces in them?

And the big hood in the center is unsupported. Even if those stones are mortared together, they would tear free of the wood eventually and collapse upon the occupants.

Can we shoot through that window in the corner of the outer wall?

It looks like any race but centaurs could crawl through it.

That wooden parapet could have a wooden walkway behind it, instead of the occasional window.

I think the K-Mart of MMO's already exists!  And it ain't us!   :)

The Chimney is in the center hence the fire is in the center. Can see this in the third and fourth pics. Those stone columns in the front don't look like chimneys at all just structural accents.

Pang, you're just supporting my point.

The lodge is pretty, but structurally unsound.

Now get in there and support that collapsing structure!

Mortar is strong in compression but not in tension.  The steel brace system shown in the concept art would have to extend down to the bottom of the chimney and provide a lintel (shelf) upon which the stone would be laid.

Also, the draft for the fire pit would be problematic resulting in a smoky interior of the lodge.  In our world with realistic gravity and airflow, a metal hood with flared opening over the fire pit would be the way to go.

Here is a nice architectural precedent.

Since I see no work benches in the photos does that confirm you are not able to place them, and possibly thralls, in this stronghold building?

You should be able to. Its probably empty just to show the space of it. Once they put the textured pictures in the store, we'll probably see some props in the Fort.
