Ranger stealth

Recommended Posts

So I got the stalker and the ranger mix up. I though after seeing that the ranger had not stealth based skills that they had switch it to not be a stealth based class. So where is the stealth for rangers at? What kinda stealth they gonna have? is it too late to even give ranger stealth?

We are gonna have HIDE. Basically you trigger a stealth that breaks when moving or doing an action. Not as useful as the assassin's (Correctly so) but i kinda like how it is supposed to work.

EDIT;.

With the addition of a melee tray we asked ourselves, “Does she really need a third power tray for stealth powers?” and With stealth and melee, would she become too similar to the assassin?” which led to, “Does she really need stealth at all?” This is when we changed the idea of the Ranger having a full Stealth mode to the more limited Hide.

The difference between the two modes are:

Hide is a mode that renders you invisible as long as you remain stationary and does not swap your power tray.

Stealth is a mode that renders you invisible until you attack or take a damaging hit. You can move freely while stealthed. When activated, your power tray is swapped to a stealth power tray.

There are some stealth disciplines that the ranger can take, so you can go stealth if you choose to take a discipline that supports it.  I could see this being very useful in battle, if an enemy decides to engage you, dash away, stealth to lose him, reposition and then continue shooting.

With the change to Ranger / Stalker there is nothing stating Rangers will get Hide anymore.  THey are taking things from both classes and combining them to one.  In that process Hide can be lost.

It could be added to a Discipline or maybe even a Racial. Elken getting Hide as a racial ability would make sense to me.

As far as stealth goes they said they still consider Ranger in the "stealth group" or w/e so likely it'll still get some form of stealth, IMO.

they talked about it on the stream at some point - still a tech issue blocking it being added to her

(also ranger included in all the stealth related runestones with duelist and assassin)

Ranger hasn't been redone yet, when it is, it will gain hide. The tech is there according to the stream, they just need to prototype it. I think he mentioned waiting to get assassin online first before worrying about ranger/stalker merging; patience.

"I can avoid being seen if I wish, but to disappear entirely.. that is a rare gift."

I'm not opposed to hide, but it seems a bit steep to go from stealth breaks on movement, to stealth only breaks when engaging combat. Maybe a stalker discipline that allows stealth but slows movement, like the ranger is doing in the environment video at 1:53.

disciples will probably help all errant class builds a bit more. possibly a rune of some sort that could give positive effect to hide/stealth. lots of different combo opportunities, much like how druids can get a scimitar now

Rangers should have an option to either go down the perception route and become a hunter or go into Stealth and become the prey. The only way to do this is with disciplines only available to some classes.

Ranger camouflage

-Grants stealth

- 25 perception

- Shadow arrow does 1/2 damage but doesn't trigger combat on the target

Keen Senses

+25 perception

In touch with nature - nature gives you warning signs if a stealthed person comes within 15m

Guided by light - Arrow attack that hits a stealthed opponent in the direction you are facing (in a cone)

I just want more stealth on my ranger than a stand still and hide type of skill, im not expecting to be an Assassin, but i want some sort of "limited" camoflauge\stealth that lets me at least feel like im stalking prey or hunting while hidden, without beeing limited to standing still. I'd be fine with just beeing able to stealth, without a dedicated stealth bar for things like backstabs etc, leave that for the Assassin.

While this is an old thread with the talent changes and Brigand being a stealth class what are the current thoughts on it as it's a melee focused build instead of a ranged option? As I'm unable to test 5.8 atm I'm unsure if you lose your Ranged Tray after you promote to Brigand for the Stealth Tray or if you are able to obtain a Ranged Tray by taking a Discipline after promoting to Brigand. I personally would like to see some form of Stealth Scout type as we already have a Stealth Melee in the Assassin.

Current thoughts and input?

You absolutely retain the ranged bar when you promote to the Brigand. You can also supplement the powers you'll miss out by not going "Archer" (another Ranger promotion class), by simply taking some of the ranged bow-related Disciplines.

I'd hold off on making plans right now though, lots of big changes coming to Disciplines in the future. They mentioned doing a Tier 2 pass on Talents for all of the Disciplines.

You just made my night by informing of the great news that you retain the ranged tray. Thanks for the info!!!

according to the current talent tool tips  Brigands (Stealth capable ranger promotion class) do not get access to "Runic" bows of any kind..

Disciplines currently do not award runic bows either although that may be just because disciplines havent been updated.

Hmm, true. Kinda ignored the runic weapons part since those arent a thing yet.

Ranger is the only class that makes that distiction; Everyone else can use any runic weapon they can equip.

If the gap between advanced and runic is too big (and it seems it will be) this might be a deal breaker to some. People will be being punished twice: Once by making use of a build that doesnt make full use of the promotion and by not getting acess to runic weapons they want to use.

Kinda weird issue. In one hand it does make sense while on the hand it seems a tad restricting.

Maybe they could give acess to only a single runic weapon to Archers and Brigands (Either use runic bow OR runic daggers), and maintain Wardens with acess to both?

Specially considering Brigand is more of a stealth specialization than melee. I can see a bucketload of people taking this promotion solely for the stealth and having to make do with now being "locked" to melee.

Stealth specialist?

Well they full one whole ability into their stealth bar.

Their stealth is potentially lower than Duelist and Assassin (No talent to aid them).

Their usefulness remains to be seem.

Oh, it is certainly lacking. But the simple fact that is the promotion that grant Rangers stealth kinda gets more attention than anything in the tree. Brigand seems more like the 'Ranger's stealth promotion' than the 'full-melee' promotion.

I honestly dont think the stealth stuff should be there. The rangers promotions should be solely focused in full-ranged, hybrid, and full melee. The stealth seems like something that was just thrown there.

I was a never a fan of assassins (which in games equals stealth) being tied to melee weapon (or for some reason solely daggers). If I can go invisible holding daggers I should also be capable of going invisible holding bows, maces, staffs, spears.

They should move the stealth talent tree to the basic tree. Make it work like the promotions tree such that if choose it you cant choose another line. Something like:

                                     ____________________ [Stealth Talent]__________________
                                   /                                                                                                          \

[Some Talent here] ---------------------------------[Hide Power] ------------------------------ [Continues Talent Tree]

                                   \__________________ [Anti-Stealth Talent] ________________/

In this case if you choose the [Stealth Talent] you lose acess to the other lines. The Talents I picked are of course just examples, but an anti-stealth power would be awesome since Stalkers are no more and I also would really like if we could get Hide back here as the middle choice.

EDIT: Heck, they could even make the Stealth and Anti Stealth Talents more costly, and instead of the middle Talent allow us to just skip both directly saving our points to other stuff. Skipping talents arent a thing AFAIK and it would be a nice choice IMO.

And, they really ought to make use of the exclusion mechanic in more than just the promotions.
