The Role Of An Assassin

Recommended Posts

The point of this thread is quick.

What role does the Fae Assassin archetype have in the game of Crowfall?  Let's speculate!

My initial thoughts:

1)  She is not an open battlefield character, her potential is severely limited in open confrontations, she's an assassin not a warrior.

2)  Stealth, to what degree can she use it?  I am guessing that the stealth will be outside of combat in order to reach the location of her target, perhaps she uses her wings to scale up to those high windows in the keep to land silently?

3)  Damage.  Is it limited because she is supposed to take out "one target"?  Is it sustained?  Is she really going to be just ANOTHER melee DPS class like the Centaur?

4) TRAPS.  Assassinations can use traps, but what kind of traps?  The best ones.

I'd be a big fan of the idea of a pre placed circle trap which snares the first character to walk into it, to make sure they don't get away.

What do you guys think the Fae Assassin will be capable of doing in deadly Crowfall Campaign combat?

I feel like most likely she will be used in a one v one situation, and the stealth would probably be similar to that in other MMO's, a timer until you use the assassinate move, you know the drill, similar to how you stated.

BUT

I feel like since the team here are really trying to go for unique ways to view things it, I feel like they may try to change up the stealth mechanics. Personally, I have no idea how they would do so, but it would be cool to see a shift from what we normally see stealthwise.

Another thought, she may be used as a literal assassin, rather than just a "stealth class". Used to take out VIP's, with little to no battlefield value.

Just spitballing though :P

I`d like to see an assassin`s creed style of stealth (use of the environment and time).  It is the best game about assassins :) The wings look cool! Can`t wait to see them in action! :D

I think this archetype's role will be higly defined by promotions, she could have huge kite potential if she has ranged attacks (bow) and those wings giving her high mobility. If she goes melee, she'll probably be high single target dps with good escapes/initiates.

Had this happen to me today xp

Her role is "SPECIALIST" according to the Archetype page.

                        ^

Yea I was just about to state this.  :P

Because of her role i'm guessing shes going to have very nice sabotaging like skills maybe.  :D

This is what I was going to point out as well. I expect crazy burst style damage and then recovery. Like she has to dump everything to be effective and it has to be perfect timing. This means a stealth option could be possible or just the use of environment and shadowy teleports to close distances.

One thing I think may be interesting is if she indeed can get on high places and do aerial attacks.  We have seen this mainly used in assassin's creed and frankly was one of the best ways to take a target out quickly. I hope that her abilities are based around situational awareness and taking everything to your advantage rather then just running in stealth and opening up with super burst damage... The stealth bash idea is so over done in almost every game these style of characters exist...

Though with all that being said, what do y'all think about not having stealth, but maybe abilities that help her blend with surroundings. Like a camouflage system with shadows and other things?

I think that would be fine.

Anti-tank, perhaps? Tanks can mop up normal melee and magic damage, but Assassins know how to go around the armor to get at the soft bits.

If anything i see tanks as anti-assassins. Assassins rely on sneak attack and burst damage, good for squishy soft targets they can kill fast and escape. Tanks can survive the assault and live to fight back. Assassins should avoid tanks.

In the banner under Team. Is that blood she's drinking?

Also..

I think similar to Zero in Borderlands..... He's epic with high massive single hits. Stealth, speed, deceives his enemies.

i love his line. "I disappear a ghost admist the combat preparing to strike!"

A Female assassin. GASP!! it's like Christmas!

So the Fae icon finally got fixed.  This changes so many things.  Time to rethink.

The role of an assassin implies that the Fae will perform their role alone in isolated places.  The fact that the Fae Assassin is a "Specialist" and not a "DPS" implies their damage is not their main feature, I'd assume that their strength will be positioning and short term mobility.

The Fae Assassin will most likely move past tanks to harass, disable, or eliminate archers, wizards, single characters (Which they can't defeat because tanks > assassins, assassins excel against unprepared and unarmored targets).

Summary

The Fae Assassin will be the mobile class, and will most likely make for the best covert ops (For eliminating specific players).  Although their damage won't be particularly impressive, a troop of 4 Fae can easily reach a single player with their built in mobility and overwhelm him with numbers.

Single Fae would excel in sabotage as people have mentioned (Siege equipment, stealing resources in unguarded POIs etc).
