What Is A Specialist To You?

I'm guessing that a Specialist, as far as the Assassin goes, will be a high utility DPS class able to flow in and out of combat to circumvent their squishy-ness. I'd love to see them akin to what the Thief is in GW2 but in the realm of this game.

We really cant have an Agelmar, Angelmar, and an Adelmar.

We can have an Adelmar, but Angel and Agel are too close so I suggest changing your name to Abelmar, Avelmar, or Azelmar. Any of those will be fine with me. XD

Agelmar runs around on gimp paper thin scouts getting himself killed all the time.

 

I think that qualifies him as a specialist. 

 

65 con was plenty... PLENTY

I perceive a Specialist as any specific role appart from DPS, Tanking and Healing.
It's opposite is Hybrid/Survival roles intended for solo/pvp that combine minor healing, medium-high hp and medium dps.

I'm expecting there to be another rogue archetype announced that fits more with the traditional dual wielding rogue DPS class. That said I think the Fae Assassin should have extremely high burst damage but very weak sustained, high disruption mechanics like stuns, slows and silences, possibly temporary flight, possibly stealth and possibly a decoy, disguise or mimic type of ability.

 

The Fae Assassin should have to be extremely careful about who and when to attack, lest they die.

 

I get the feeling that ACE will using the Specialist title on any class that doesn't really fit into the traditional Tank, DPS, Support roles. If the Fae Assassin is just a generic rogue from other MMO's with stealth, high damage and some basic disruption then why not just put it in the DPS group?

You've got your 'ok at everything not great at anything, jack of all trades, master of none' generalization. a Specialist isn't that. They're not good at a lot of things. In fact, they pretty much suck at a lot of things, but the one thing they're good at, the one thing they've Specialized in, they really .xlsx at.

 

or, they could just be 'special' like that explosives ordinance guy with the two AR-15s. I hope they're not like that though. We have enough special people around here, I don't think we need a class dedicated to them.

Something just came to mind while reading another thread about full loot and it kind of ties into what a specialist might be. In a full loot game with a focus on player driven economy and resource transportation, you need to get goods and resources from mines to town after-all, the ability to tell what others are carrying without killing them would be very handy.

 

Maybe one of the abilities for a specialist, not necessarily the Fae Assassin, could be to scan peoples inventories without them knowing. This would allow ambushing of others carrying valuable goods with intent on stealing it all.

A specialist to me is a player who sacrifices the constant damage output of a DPS and the massive health of a tank for the talents required to accomplish a goal like assassination or gathering information. I would classify specialist as either Assassins or, Scouts. Assassins are to infiltrate an area, eliminate the target, and get out the area before anyone notices. Scouts are to gather information, plot false information, spy on enemies and spot enemies before they spot you. Assassin play a role in large battles. Poisons, Stuns, Blinds and, Slows. While in smaller scale battles the burst Damage to eliminate Healers and Scouts.
