The Grand Adventure: A Bakers Tale

You awake in a dimly lit room. A foul stench invades your nostrils, a putrid mixture of rotting flesh and oddly, freshly baked goods. This revolting combination nearly causes you to lose the contents of your stomach - were there any contents to speak of. You realise you are famished, with no idea how long it has been since you have eaten. The light in the room is coming from a small candle on what appears to be a bedside table.

What do you?

You have 3 actions per turn, and they will be executed in the order you post them, be careful not to get your character stuck after an action. Actions will be interrupted if an event over-rides them, such as an opponent appearing. There is a way to win, and many ways to lose. Its an open ended adventure game.

Rules:

  • Try not to post to many actions. Let others have a turn.
  • Don't kill yourself[This kills the fun]
  • Put // at the start and end of actions like this: // Pick up Candle // Search Room // Search self //

You step over towards the bedside table with the candle atop, you become acutely aware that you are barefoot. The floor feels moist and cool, and oddly... alive. You perish the thought and pick up the candle. You smash the table with your elbow attempting to salvage a weapon, but it is brittle and shatters into hundreds of shards. "A shank will do" you think to yourself and pick up a shard to defend yourself with. You notice that there is no bed, and no matter how far you walk you cannot find the walls of this room. As you are walking you wretch heavily as the foul stench of flesh and sweet bread meets your olfactory system again. Regaining your composure you stand up straight and ponder your next move.

You haphazardly grope around your body, trying to assess the situation. You are wearing what appears to be a black and white vertically striped cloth jumpsuit. There doesn't seem to be a way to remove it. For some odd reason you also have a belt, "What is this supposed to hold up?" you ponder as you gently tug on it with your fingers. Suddenly a wave of disgust washes over you as the foul stench of rot and baked goods assaults your nostrils again. You double over and wretch, then stand back up. A new feeling arrives, as if something is stuck in your throat.

What do you do?

You cover your mouth and nose with your arm, hoping to escape the terrible smell but to your dismay the smell only grows stronger - a pungent concoction with enough intensity to choke the air out of your lungs. You fall to you knees gasping for air, and a searing pain erupts in your arm, blood pours from your arm as the words "You can't hide from your crimes" carve themselves deep into your flesh. A moment passes and as soon as the words appeared, they vanish leaving behind faint scars. With them went the pain, leaving only a dull ache where the blood once poured and a memory of... something. The smell remains and the candle still burns in front of you, flickering as though it is mocking your feeble attempts at understanding the situation. "Was that my own thought" you ponder looking pensively at the candle. The air feels more hostile than before. The feeling of burning in your throat grows and you wretch once again.

You are almost prone and cannot continue your actions.

TIP: You can inspect the items you have to gain clues about their nature.

You ponderously look at the scarred inscription on your arm, the memory of the pain is more distant now. Resolving to understand the situation you take a good hard look at the leather belt around your waist, it is plain and has no hooks nor holes a traditional belt may hold. As you are twisting the belt in your hands you feel blemishes on the surface along the inside, you twist the belt so that it is inside out and see an inscription. "I am the keeper of putrefaction, the guardian of pestilence and the bindings of malcontent, a silent reminder of the device." As you finish reading the inscription you feel a terrible scourge run from your insides. The pain is nigh unbearable and you begin wretching. The sickness overcomes you and you feel bile rise in your throat. A thick unsightly stream of black liquid rushes from your mouth as your stomach empties itself. Where the liquid lies on the ground it begins to accumulate together, forming a shape and in a few moments there is no black liquid, only a shining dagger that glimmers in the light of the candle. Disturbed and unsure how to continue you look for clues as to the nature of the clothing you are wearing, but you can't find anything meaninful as of yet. You run your hands across the floor and it feels smooth, and black like the darkness of night. As you inspect the floor you see something beneath you, it looks like a small version of yourself splayed and broken many meters below you, a moment later you are falling though there is no wind nor air to rush past you. As soon as it began, it is over and you crash into a new floor below, exactly the same as the old floor. There is no pain from the fall and beside you is your own body broken and bloodied. A moment later the dagger from above lands point first into the chest of the... "Second me?" you ponder, looking at the shiny handle of the dagger poking out of the corpse.
