Material Requirements

Recommended Posts

Please reduce the cost of materials per item. to build a whole set of gear to go and pvp in takes a little too much time to farm it. If you play solo like i have been doing takes way too long to get in a fight. Seems you have material requirements like everyone is gonna have a group to help grind it out quickly.

I want to see how blueprints and craft stations will work out for us. it's one of the mechanics we don't have access to.

It's possible gathering is fine but the blueprints and stations will allow us to increase the usable resources by refining. Eve does this and it helps tremendously.

there is so much we don't know yet.  for instance, use one ore and get a stat boost.  use a different ore for the same thing and get a different stat boost.  this is hardly helpful for those of us training to be killers, but it will make us totally dependent on crafters.  everyone has a place.

I made basic armor and only worked to make a semi great weapon.  haven't had any problems pvp'ing.  sure, a dedicated crafter could make me even better, but that will come in time.  the game hasn't even started yet.

yeah i understand that you can specialize into it. just trying to suggest how they accomidate for solo players that want to pvp and not spend a decade grinding to do that. i havent gotten my buddies to pick the game up yet :(

well once 5.4 comes out and going forward from there, if you dont specialise in crafting you plain out wont have access to advanced recipes, only basic and intermediate (with intermediate being between basics and advanced, but much closer to advanced, so as a solo player you will need to be buying from other players to get any decent gear

30 minutes of skinning and 30 minutes of mining can get you in a full set of advanced gear...harvesting potions are waaaay under utilized.

300 slag and 100-150 leather (lvl5 leather st that)

Yeah.  Many are fuzzy about the economy for the game.  It’s pre-alpha and things like thralls and such are not implemented yet.  Some just don’t like to farm, and the crafting system is up to speed to draw in your dedicated crafters yet.  Eventually you’ll be able to provide a service for crafters .... like holding down the crafting and farming areas with your pvp skills.  Eventually the 3 skills will form a symbiotic relationship and an economic system will be in place.... till then... test for bugs and provide feedback on the bugs.

The crafting mat requirements to make stuff isn't really the issue. Or rather it would be the harder of the two possible solutions to take. One of the great things about Crowfall's campaign band system is they can dial up or down certain things. Doober drops from resource nodes might be too low and that perceptive is probably more grounded from having no skill training in things the exploration trees focused around harvesting. Even without skill training the doober drop rate could be on par but overly be inflated with lots of skill training in harvesting skill trees.

I also don't think they've been messing with doober drop rates since they introduced active harvesting with weak points. So this could be something they could look at but right now they're busy focusing on

Gathering is primarily meant to be a group effort anyways. Everyone is probably going to be helping in some capacity in the gathering of resources either by supplying themselves with basic rune tools.

Another thing I think that's an issue is tools have such low base durability that they break too often. I think this is something that needs to be addressed at a later date.

to gain that much you'd have to have either giant stocks of wood or gathering tools, right?  So you have to add at least the same time just for preparing your tools, aye?

Or am I missing sth. ?

Yes and no.  Many start off farming many unnecessary things or doing it alone.. completely contradicting the 2nd M in MMO (make friends!!!!)  New campaign with nothing pulled from spirit bank,  I’m getting 1-2 axes, then a couple slag and 4-8 slate. That’s what I did and within the first 15 minutes I had a potion.  Once that’s done it’s a matter of doing what you have to do(recommend with friends) If that’s tooooo much farming for you, maybe MOBA market is up your alley.  MMO will have an inherent amount of farm/craft involved.  A 3-4 man team each tackling a resource is optimal but not required.  This game is really designed for you to have to specialize.  I trade ore for wood/stone as I only do mining and it’s more productive to make 1 tool than try and make them all.

Man... be thankful it’s not full on Korean time suck grind fest.... no offense to anybody.... you can’t argue the meta of Asian grind philosophy when all we want is instant  Pvp.  North America/EU market likes game play that’s instant and fast paced and they get their fix and playing a new MMO next year.  Other markets see their players staying for 3-5 years..... honestly, how many of you will be here in 2023.  Many won’t cuz we all heard this sick new game coming out, bought it... and want it now...and by the time it comes out.. another game will be out... and then another.... I’m really really looking forward to this game as I stick with MMOs much longer than most (5+ years typically)..... I doubt 75% will be here in 24 months.

I'm a fan of complex systems, especially ones with non-obvious (but logical and easy-to-understand) requirements. For example, the "quality" stat in DAoC gear had a -huge- effect on performance, but most players just focused on the DPS or AF stat (to their own personal detriment). Heck, I've seen players look at a "damage" stat on weapons and think that Bigger is Better, while totally disregarding any attack speed stat that could have a major impact on "real world" DPS.

Having said that, the system currently in the game is very convoluted and requires knowledge of some very specific steps you need to take in order to make meaningful progress. Some of the systems in place right now (admittedly in pre-alpha, so maybe not representative of the final game product) are not only unintuitive, but are artificial stop-gap measures implemented for testing purposes only. (I.E. crafting potions that boost skill levels.) Without those artificial boosts, the system as currently implemented is not only confusing, but is also very difficult to advance.

If you are a pvper, you should work for someone who provides you weapons and armor when you are putting in work.  Or, have them replace what you have at an agreed level.

Brave!  Hey bud, I can say it will get better. I spent some time in the 5.4 map and I don’t think resources will be an issue.  You will still have to specialize or hire gathered to get into epics and legendary but common/uncommon/rares will go much faster.

another thing I take into consideration, is what I will be doing.  If it’s over contested large scale fighting and heals might not get to me in time...and you know it’s gonna be a meat grinder... wear the armor that’s good enough, but not you Sunday’s best ... hope that helps and look forward to future play (not sure where we’ll end up)
