How strange! A crossbow i could see but a normal bow on a knight? a tank? Maybe thats just what he uses to pull aggro with hhmmmm?? I dont see a crosshair on his icon like with the frostweaver and centaur so maybe its just a very minor side-arm..

Where did you see Knight has a bow ?

About the icons, I read few times about the crosshair meaning range rattacks.

There are 2 elements in the icons, the common background and the different foregrounds.

And I'm pretty sure the crosshair in the background is simply the basic icon for pure DPS. Because their purpose is to AIM their target.

Shield is the basic icon for tanks, obviously, and then there are the horns-emblem for specialist and the dice or the rubik's cube for the support.

And the second element, the foreground, precise their kind, or just distinguishes them :

- sword for the Legionnaire, because most of his weapons are melee, or maybe because blade is the most common weapon and the Legionnaire use lot of weapons.

- The bow for the Frostweaver doesn't necessarily mean she uses a bow, but could mean she has various range skills, with her Kusarigama-like weapon.

I'm loving too many characters right now...to be honest I'm probably going to give the Templar a miss, I love high damage output CC but the Support of the Forgemaster is really pulling my chain at the moment. My first character will probably be the Melee DPS, I will be interested in how the Assassin plays out also, probably making her my second character, but then again, I could just as easily roll a Mage DPS afterwards because they are just lovely at a lot of things, both solo and group and CC. Melee DPS>Forgemaster>Mage/Assassin.

Ah yes I didn't see that bow on my phone screen...

Well that may be strange I agree.

Maybe because he doesn't have magic spell he can use more physical weapons.

I agree with you, Trugamer. New game, new classes, it's always hard to choose :P

My first choice goes for the Forgemaster :)

Then I think Frostweaver., with her kusarigama she might be amazing ^^

We'll probably be able to use a number of different weapons based on our archetype, promotion class, and discipline. Imagine a Stoneborn Forgemaster who promotes to "Warrior" and takes the "Archer" discipline. He might change his role and weapon type completely, while still retaining his original race specific flare.

TBH this game has much depth they've not really shown and it looks cool already i.e. the prospect of having different style to DPS with my Melee DPSer. Main roles are great for Tank/Healer/DPS but unless you've had a support role with you i.e. Bard's from FFXI which buff the crap out of the party you never realise just how UBER a mediocre team can be with a single dedicated supporter!

Judging from what I've seen though e.g. Knights with Bows, the versatility here could mean a lot of fun playing solo as well as in a group. Already I'm excited about too many of the classes! In fact I'm even more excited about my Melee DPS, I can see how masterfully I can play with an entire arsenal at my control, ranging, kiting, domination from close and far. On the other shoe, when I "bust-out" my supporter I wanna buff the crap out of my toon, other people's toons and bust stuff up, probably have a small healing ability e.g. a master solo class!

I've got the opposite issue, none of the current archetypes are of much interest for me.  lol..  There's more to come and I'm sure something will click.  Also this title is a ways off and a lot of things can change.

I'm hoping for a more brutal roguish archetype as the assassin is seemingly gender locked pixies.  perhaps a combat rogue, mercenary fighter, cutthroat brigand theme of sorts.

also a dark woods survivalist ranger theme could be interesting.. lots of possibilities.  we just dont know yet.

regardless the game's theme is certainly interesting.

I too think it's a bit unusual having a plate armored knight utilizing a bow.  I think it may be in part because a crossbow is seen as not requiring quite the agility one would assume a bow would.  Also the slower firing / greater piercing ability of a crossbow is more associated with countering heavily armored opponents which some associate as being a more typical foe of an armored knight.

Amen! Show me a badass rogue/archer and I'm sold, pure damage dealer with the ability to cut through monsters like butter.

I think it is just the game trying to give variety in gameplay. They don't want to have you be forced into a weapon type for the archetype you pick and vice versa. Each archetype from the looks has about 3-5 weapon type variants so that people can really make the character they want. Plus, the archetype is merely a race+a class. You want to be a tank, and a human, there you go, but you want to use a bow instead of an axe or sword, that is okay. Just options is all. Plus I think every character will have some sort of melee and long range attack for sieges. Whether that is throwing knives, using magic or a bow, people will need to take down archers on top of walls somehow.

Looks like the knight has a specialization class of sentinel that is ranged which I find off putting. Knights aren't rangers after all.

I plan to go the ranged sentinel route with one of my characters. I see this type knight as a tower guard so bows and crossbows seem perfectly valid for the knight.

Sentinel: melee and ranged :D

only if i can't be a tank with a bow, a few shots with a bow and arrow before you charge in for melee attacks is a personal combo i like to do

tanking is my love

they've clarified that an archetype's core role will not change regardless of promotion. So a sentinel will still be a tank, just with more ranged capability than the other knight promotions.
