New World - Amazon Game Studios

Recommended Posts

Very interesting; similar to crowfall in a lot of ways.

Some of features:

  • Crafting, harvesting.
  • Classless system
  • Aim based/Skill based combat.
  • Supposedly they're going to have 10k players per world.
  • Open FFA PvP with a UO similar crime system. Bounty hunting.
  • Fortification Building.
  • Sieges and territorial / resource control.

I'm very interested in this game also. Already signed up for the alpha.

I was amazed that a AAA studio with AAA budget would do a PVP game with a full loot ruleset.

It sounds to me more like a larger scale survival game than a MMORPG but it's very interesting none the less.

Just got my invite last night, have played for 8 hours or so thus far. Looks and feels good, though some of the content is not very accessible solo or without information that's hard to get with the NDA. Waiting for my forums access, hopefully that will fill in the blanks.

Anyone else here playing? Could use a SB/CF based Company, show people what's what. :P

Strangely enough, Pornhub of all places has leaked video of their gameplay already.

I was invited too Anthrage - downloading New World. :) I`m Mythx in the game. I`ve not read anything about the game so I`m completely new, hehe. I just love survival type of games, and Amazon is AAA studio with AAA budget.

Without gettings into details (NDA), I can see it is quite good. Had my first death (first PvP as well) so far, 15 or so hours in - reminded me of UO-launch days. Combat feels very good.

I saw that LoD has a Claim on Server 2, good stuff. I'm on server one atm, grinding out levels and climbing the skill ladder. I like the way they have things set up, enjoying it so far.

If enough people who don't already have a guild (Company) there from this community are interested, we could try to set something up. Otherwise if you're in an need assistance with anything on Server 1, send me a message, I'm Anthrage Stormrider there.

but the beginning experience of New World reminds me of Crowfall so much it's eery.

HAH. the new player experience in crowfall currently is bad. Without breaking NDA, I can say new world is much better designed to grab players and retain them. Hence why many here are playing there :)

Considering how much "I don't know wtf to do D:" I've seen in the NW global chat I'm pretty confident in my assessment of their relatively confusing introductions.

Crowfall does seem to come out ahead in what I'd describe as vision and implementation. The small group content (outposts and forts) and the "ending of the world to stave off staleness" are both legs up on CF's competition. Having had access to another In Development project has given me more confidence in Crowfall's future.

I agree. I love the concept of crowfall but in regards to actually getting it done before Q4 2019, that I am unsure of.

Ok.. I see this as a threat to crowfall. It's like Bezos spotted the same opportunity as j. And gordan and just got started a bit later. I'm afraid ArtCraft will have to hit overdrive and try to beat Amazon to market by like a year to really make people feel to invested not to switch. I worry because of the amount of money and manpower that Amazon can throw at this. It's very unfortunate that both games share a similar vision. I have no doubt that ArtCraft has the creme of the crop of developer talent, but fracking Amazon can field hundreds of developers and take a loss on the front end, if they feel they can make it up on the back end... And that is dangerous. I'd almost suggest that gordan  either look to see if they are copying any of aircrafts tech or vision and then sue to stall or either outright say but us out.. in the end, sure there is room for two but this announcement just cut crowfall's market at least in half. My fingers are crossed and my prayers are for ArtCraft... We shall see.

There are certainly many similarities between the two titles, and Crowfall did come first, but there are also many differences. The most interesting thing to me about this is that both games will need to address the same long-standing problems faced by so many MMOs in this genre...in this respect it's a boon to everyone, having that much high-level brain power working on solutions to these issues. Can't wait till we get to the meat of development for both of these and see if one of them can undo this Gordian Knot.
