What is supposed to be the role of a knight at this point?

Isn't true of anything that's focus fired save myrms and and put fighters?  Issue with the comparison (keep in mind limited experience on my  part):

Block is inferior to righteous party as far as an RMB goes?

Paladin spec can buff more hp and has some self sustain?

On the flip side, Templars have very little CC.  Which does matter.

Templars and knights are both pretty squishy though compared to the other two tank classes.

Paladin is the healing spec of Templar.  Healers cannot rescue themselves (the heals that work the opposite of an execute ability).  In order to be able to heal you have to go 100% int and take healing discs/protective support discs.  It’s not the tank version.

Block works on ranged, parry doesn’t.  Parry consumes pips at an alarming rate.  They are not the same.

HP buffs work wonky.  They add to your maximum but do not increase your current.  Using it when your at 40% might actually put your effective HP at execute range (Templars and Banshee Major disc).

Paladin Templars are not tanks, they give up tanking and are healers.  Just like Vindicator Paladins are DPS and not tanks.

Pitfighter Champ, whatever the tank myrm, Secutor Knight, the melee fessor and The tank spec Templar are the only tanks in the game because they all specially make you tanks.  A swordsman knight gives up durability for dmg, he’s a bruiser but not a hard damage sponge.

W/HoA were held up as like these mystical forces of highly skilled players with legendary theorycrafters chained to a desk in some deep dungeon holding all the arcane secrets we could use to win if only we knew them.

Knights role is to chainpull and steal dodge pips. Base kit. All Specs. Using your two major slots you can take on another minor role such as support either offensive (troubador damage increase aoe) or defensive (standard bearer, field surgeon, rune caster etc). You could also try for more dps with damage discs but youll never do as much damage as a dps class and the only spec that can take defensive discs and do damage would be secutor. Knights are only for group play with a healer supporting you. If thats not the case you will become frustrated.

Holy Aura and Toughness aren't that great as neither increases your HP, just your max, and any class can get those.

It's not just about 1 vs 1. If you are putting together a group and have to choose between taking a Champ, Myrmidon, Templar or Knight, are you honestly going to take a Knight? What does a Knight bring to a group that those other classes don't? Chasing down a runner maybe, especially with the Swordsman spec, but all of those other classes do more damage and have self sustain, meaning your cleric won't have to work as hard.

True ... in fact Knight brings nothing .... for a team and its game base on team ....

Opposite problem imo, Knights only work in a team setting. They aren’t very good in any other setting, they have little sustain, and low damage compared to others. But they have some unique and strong control abilities and if they every fix CC their crowd control spec could be strong. Their block making them hard to kill with a healer. Plus the they have a ton of disc options as they don’t require any discs to do their job well, so they can focus on utility and buff discs.

you have right on one thing , Knight have disc options a lot , where other class have this on basic ....

for complete knight you need Disc , where the 2 others "tank" can do better ...

The necro... HP levels stated in this thread are not current.

That aside, knights have a very important role in group fight: Controlling the Battlefield

  1. Pull: Some standoffs are not easily busted, but grabbing targets of opportunity into a dodge pip removal focus play is easy kill and quickly adds up.
  2. Ult: The Ultimate aiblity works now as a tool to gather enemies into a small area.  Even if they react if gives you 1-2 seconds to AoE dump.
  3. Tankiness: They are tanky because they have plate, they also a superior block and have a barrier they can apply quite often.
  4. Increased Mount Speed: A very important utility when chasing runners and keeping a group from reforming after a retreat.
  5. Great class to bring a utility discipline.  Since they do lots of basic attacking, they are a great class to bring a utility ability such as dodge pip removal, anti stealth and anti heal.
  6. They are not the target your enemy wants to kill.  This in and of itself gives them innate sustain, allowing them to continually harass and coral the enemy.
