UPDATE 10-3: After reading comments and reviewing the poll results, there are no wipes planned -- neither skills only or complete wipe -- ahead of the War of the Gods. Big thank-you to all who participated in the conversations.

--------

During the ACE Q&A for September live stream, Todd spoke about the possibility of doing a passive skill tree wipe. (The segment begins at the 19:30 mark). As Todd stated, passive training has been running for quite some time now, at an accelerated pace.

Simply bumping everyone up to max levels isn't an option. That would require engineering time that we don't want to divert from development of the game itself.

Note that this would be passive skills only. The wipe would not include characters, Eternal Kingdoms or banks.

Please vote and leave comments in the thread if you so choose.

A passive skill wipe that left the existing vessels and loot in place would not help. While the passive skills would be equalized, nobody would be able to make vessels and gear to match those held by existing vets, so you are left with the same (or worse) level of demotivation for new players.

If you want to take the step of wiping because it is an easy bone to throw the LIVE service while you are heads-down on the next build, I would suggest:

1) Full wipe of passive skills, vessels, banks.

2) Carrot of a long Trial campaign to compete over as part of the start-over process. I would suggest 2 months.

A fresh start with a long Trial campaign could be a good way to hold over the players while we wait for the next build.

Too many issues if not a full wipe. This isn't a good poll. You need to make it a full wipe or no wipe poll. Guilds would stock up in good gear and wait for the wipe, then not have any need to craft while new players would have no chance to catch up to older players...

Really just take this poll down. Full wipe or no wipe is the only real option. No disrespect but imho this wasn't thought through.

Only real question is what Duren asked. How fast would the passive multiplier be? If you make it fast enough it would allow everyone to get geared and experience a full game cycle.

AGREED... Full wipe or no wipe.  Other pertinent info to making an informed decision here is; How fast would the passive multiplier be after full wipe?  Please Redo the poll  😊

They stated their current knob could go to x5 in the Q&A

They may have forgotten, but passive training has been set to 10x in the past.

"In 5.6, we have all skill trees accruing skill points at 10x normal speed for both tracks to enable testing on skill nodes deeper in the trees." from SKILL TRAINING MECHANICS AND YOU!

Hearing you loud and clear that you don't like the poll. I talked with Todd and QA about our options. As Todd mentioned during the stream, we *must* do a full wipe with 5.11. For that reason, we don't want to do one now; it's not cool to do two full wipes back-to-back like that.

As far as doing a passive skill wipe and then adjusting the training speed, we can set it at a 3% speed increase again, but we aren't able to tweak that number. (Doing so would require some backend work and those take attention away from the actual development of the game).

The rate passive training is accrued should exist in the code as a value, while locating that particular value could be hard, I don't grasp how changing it should be any sort of technically difficult task taking significant time.  That being said I am going to assume I have oversimplified the problem and suggest that a knob to adjust the passive training be put into place.  With a wipe in 5.11 and Alpha not until 2020, we have a bit of a journey yet until release and that seems like a useful tool to have easily at your disposal.   Or better yet, prioritizing the catch up mechanic as the game is barely playable for some time while waiting on passives.  I'm incredibly fond of tying the catchup mechanic to in game activity so as to promote playing and give that early reward fix for players.  Think of MMO's like crack, if the crack only makes you feel good after months you probably will find a new supplier.  Gotta get em hooked while they are new and naive.

I feel bad for the newbs if you do a partial wipe.  That’s going to really ensure they get crushed.

When the Dominate guild who’s won every campaign, overwhelmingly tells you that the proposed wipe will only make it easy for them to continue their undefeated devastation of the competition you should take heed.
