Could 5.125 be the Version to go Beta?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

We are still missing Mounts, Alliancesystem, Guildbanks and Campaignwinrewards... but what else is missing?
Of course this Version still needs fixes & polishing, but if Performance stays in greater fights as it is promising now...
So I am just curious what is ACE looking for and what do the Testers think about it.

Yes of course looking for a short beta (4weeks) to invite 300k+ players - then no.

NPE 3 or we will have Lazy Peon poorly made dergsting on the game again, because noone explained to him how to win the campaign.

not quite sure how to implement that ingame, a good vid would be way easier i guess

at that point the new players should have realized to join a guild is a good idea ;)

We used to have tutorial videos in-game. No one watched them. I'm sure they'll come up with something.

Other than those things mentioned, it feels really close to beta in terms of systems and game loops to me. Needs some more polish (bug fixes, performance) because free players will have even less patience for that stuff than regular testers do.

IMO there is quite a lot more to do before beta. If the whole point of beta is to get backers to return and free players a good first hands experience, it needs to be dang near launch ready. Not just functional.

Those that have been around for any length of time have likely grown accustomed to many things that new and returning folks will not accept.

Bugs or QOL things that a current player might overlook could be uninstall worthy to others.

Beyond financial and time limitations, I really hope we have a lot more updated before beta and launch. As in months/years if necessary.

Great games have done poorly because of rushed launches and taken years to recover if they ever did.

ACE received about 1.5 million in PPP grant to retain 63 jobs.

Imo they also need to add a ton of disciplines, balance those, and fix all the Promotion Classes that are completely useless at the moment before going into Beta...

People need to have the possibility to come up with unique/special builds that are somewhat viable.
Right now, there is very little variety and pretty much everyone is running the same builds. This will scare off a lot of players.

-Persistent eks so they are up all the time to allow the ek economies to be available which needs extensive testing to know how long they can stay up before a restart and to test to see if it actually works as a game loop.

-since no factories, a way to mass produce items  (even by ignoring experimentation) if something just needs to get knocked out quickly otherwise you will burn your crafters out in days!

- redo the cooking system and potion system to where either quality matters or normalise the quality of foods and have done with it.

- guild storage is a must, no temp fix, if they are worried about syncronus deposits then they could always put a small timer in to allow a table lock stack to occur, like a holding area before it shows up. ( but with a confirmation to the player that is depositing to say completed so thry dont freak out). Im also sure a log of deposits and withdrawals would also be welcome by guild administrators (albion allowed you to copy from in game and you could throw that in excel which is enough atleast but a guild only api with a secure generated key would be smashing!)

- get the passive trees expanded and streamlined to allow more player choice by spreading out the choices into smaller trees and aslo expand the crafting trees to more specialisms passed the generic ones.

- start showing what VIP will do to allow it to be scrutinised by the community and ensure no p2w abuse was missed.

- inngame guild social system and what features will be in there to allow for community feedback and suggestions and how granular permissions can be, some for guild storage to allow, view contents, deposit contents, withdraw contents and im sure other aspects of the game could require other permissioning as well.

And everything else above too!

so putting that feedback so far together that would be 2-3 major/milestonepatches left to go for that 4 weeks closed beta.

curious how the roadmap at ACE is looking like atm as it is in flux all the time.

They have a roadmap?

June 2018: "Alpha by end of Summer 2018"

January 2020: "Beta Q1 2020" "Launch 2020"

Maybe their roadmap is like the game's? Form over function.

I hope they don't rush, which they seem to have avoided, but have a feeling we'll be seeing Beta much sooner then we should. Making a good game > the masses being able to log in, be dissatisfied, and uninstalling.

@OP really think this through.  Closed beta is really the last test before they open this thing wide.  Open beta needs to be structurally complete.  A few missing QoL items like, better non-1995 era ability icons, buff lists, UI accept/cancel buttons, etc can go live in beta.  But you cannot wholesale add major features that haven't been tested (in open beta) such as mounts, guild banks, etc, hell even the MASSIVE deficit with the current discipline set-up needs to be done.

I think they are well aware, but a failed beta is a failed game.

Yeah, I seriously hope they dont underestimate the danger of a bad first impression. Very few games manage a comeback from that...

Dregs into testing was the most recent previous hype inflection point that was kind of a let down to a lot of people. Beta and this mythical 300k accounts being granted access is the next one.

Launch would obvious be the last one, but I still don't know what "launch" will actually look like for CF. It's kind of like 2 people who are more or less dating, and assume they are in a serious relationship after several years, but neither ever actually formally asked the other out on a date. They just kept hanging out together until one day they have kids and a shared banked account.

yeah it is sad as custard, because he have like 500k Youtube followers and a big %+@!$#?&*^. He did not research the game properly before that review and that is bad. He literally thinks it is no PvP in Crowfall since he only participated in God`s Reach which is Trammel in Ultima Online in that old mmo which happen to be one of the first before the muds.

In the end the guy probably doesn't care. Streamers get a ton of engagement by ripping on a game, probably more than giving a game a good assessment.

In my mind, the CF marketing team should probably be spending overtime cultivating relationships with streamers and youtubers. They probably are. Or maybe they feel the game isn't ready for that.

Tbh nowadays it's becoming increasingly more common for games to have a disastrous burning launch and then bounce back and become decent/good little games with a niche or even wider following after a year or so. I could name several examples. It seems like many games launch in an incomplete kinda broken state and then slowly fix it afterwards. Now that I condone that at all, but hey 🤷‍♂️
